  1. The 'big hit' aspect - I sometimes wonder if artists actually get told that they have a 'hit', or someone just mentions that a song of theirs is getting played in clubs or on radio over here and they just assume it's a countrywide thing, rather than in reality just a very tiny section of people over here that like it. Not quite the same thing is it? It's possible that certain unscrupulous people may play on the 'hit' thing in order to obtain copies of the record, but not good on the artist by making them think they are big names over here (or Europe etc) When hardly anyone has actually heard of them.
  2. For those who might be interested, I couldn't see any photos to compare them against side by side, so here they are. The big difference being the reference to the CD that it was taken from, whereas the boots miss this out First release: Boot:
  3. Found one, from February 2013 with most of the info:
  4. So how can you tell the re-issue from the 'bootleg' re-issue? I did hear something about it, but forgot what it was now...
  5. So... Does the Moses Smith actually count as a re-issue, or a new release with a re-issued flip side? Interesting...
  6. I always wondered how different this version actually is to the 'other' one - is it very obvious, or do you need to listen very carefully?
  7. That'll teach me doing things from memory instead of checking first - of course it's "The beginning of the end"!!
  8. I remember first hearing this on a tape (from John Manship?) around the late 70's or very early 80's and it was not listed as David Rhodes, it was a hand written track list and not easy to make out the artist at that time, so I thought it was Denny Leake for some years until I got to know more about it
  9. Yes, I've got a Canterbury copy, had it since the late 70's and it plays nice and clear. Mind you, I tend to listen to the flip side these days "The beginning of my end"
  10. I doubt very much it being Barnsley's Russ Steele, not in 1974 - he would have still been at school then! Unless the Oldsoulman himself cares to tell us different?
  11. Of course it's on the Goodway LP, as discussed on here a few times:
  12. I got one of those back in the 80's when I started collecting UK Seville for a time. But soon realised that much of it wasn't very good! So just pick up the odd one now an again, but not blind!
  13. I guess you could include the Strutt LP "Time moves on" and the Italian 45 of "Said you didn't love him"? The album being quite cheap compared to the single at around £100 these days.
  14. I paid £2 for mine.... And it's an original! mind you it was around 1974 and the boots at that time were those dull red ones! Those were the days, when originals were offloaded for a pittance as soon as they were booted
  15. Have you contacted him and asked about the 'crack', where it's supposed to be? I guess you would have done, but you haven't mentioned if you got a reply about it. It does seem odd that someone would go to that trouble to return a record, unless he changed his mind after buying it perhaps?
  16. Doesn't ring any bells Steve, would it be the Blackberries who recorded with Pacific Gas & Electric? That was on Columbia. I seem to think there was an LP by them listed for release on Mowest also, but I don't think it ever came out. Anyway, is is any good?
  17. What's the going price for Bob Meyer? I seem to think it was getting popular in Europe some years back. Does it still get played there?
  18. Sorry, I can't help, but I think it might help if I point out that it's Jimmy Preacher Ellis you're after, not Ellie.
  19. I seem to think 'Buy it now' items don't get picked up on Popsike either?
  20. Pity you didn't buy another copy, you could have let Barry have it then!
  21. As soon as I saw "love hustle" in the playlist it had to be RW. I'd gone over to the east coast, venue wise, when the Pier opened, but in 1978 a mate came round to borrow some records to tape. After he'd about got enough for this time (he made about 5 / 6 visits) he started looking through some bits I'd put to one side which were market stall 'blind buys' - he picked up a copy of Love Hustle and said that it was getting plays at Wigan by RW. I said are you sure it's that record, not something else? He then played it on the record player and confirmed it was that one. That convinced me not to rush back for another visit in the near future! Agreed though, the pop aspect was spreading almost everywhere for the next few years!
  22. Read all about it here: Here's a few of them: Rita Lee Charay 101 Robert Thomas Charay 87 Cresa Watson [AKA Carolyn Sullivan] Charay 90 Men From Macon [AKA Bobby Skel & The Red Ryders] Charay 89
  23. Mr Rimmers discography for Kenny Carter shows it at 1965: RCA Victor 45-8841 - Gotta Get Myself Together / Showdown - 1965 Personally I prefer the other side - "Showdown" these days! I've no idea on today's prices for them both though.
  24. Just in case anyone is confused, 'anti slip milling' and 'a grip running around the outside of the label' - means the same thing
