pete mate, youre absolutely spot on about this man....a very shrewd mover who spotted the potential for making an absolute killing in a market that, in the last 10 years has spiralled. unfortunately the northern soul scene lost a treasure in the process, but how many can make a professional living out of djing?. like yourself, we saw his craftsmanship as well and he is very skilled. as regards djing he was a top bloke and brought TSOP to the attention of the northwest and, eventually, the rest of the country...AGAIN terry spotted an opportunity and capitalised on it and with his top lady, LYNNE, he made queuing a concept not witnessed for a long time, so good was this venue and the tunes spun there. terry made sure he had ginger and richard at the helm with him.....JUST HOW CLEVER WAS THAT? and with his "open-house" policy of giving as many djs as possible, a chance to take the stage, he won many friends and directly challenged the "white-collar" attitude. for the first time in a good many years, the media were distracted enough to broadcast an all-nighter live from the venue with bbc radio 2's, stuart macconie hosting the show...i witnessed that night and it was absolutely rammed. terry was also, as pete said, a staunch spurs fan,....doubtless that swung it with richard when it came to organising the resident line-up and although terry didnt dj in the modern room, he had without doubt one of the best line-ups anywhere in the country with mike stevens, barry maleedy and bob hinsley bolstering the regular guests. terry woiuld always put his head in to see how it was going but how anyone managed to SQUEEZE through the doors was beyond me because it HEAVED!. DEAR LYNNE,.....how she coped with running the door was a mystery but she never missed a beat, even though she always worried about the attendance, the fact is many other venues would have killed for half as many. TERRY himself was a tremendous dj with the personality to match, he knew how to read the dancefloor and always paid detail to requests....a complete all-rounder then, and he certainly had the records to deliver satisfaction as well, having been djing and collecting for many years before. if it hadnt been for terry's prompting, i probably would never had made the trip to prestwich...that was back in 2001...i never regretted it and never missed a gig after that committment...my other half started coming with me a year later and eventually began to help lynne on the door.....when eventually terry & lynne decided to call it a day, and leave the venue in barry's hands, they graciously recommened he ask us to run the door for him such was their trust...but thats just how they were with most everyone who they got to know. they did have a long guestlist......but believe me, they still made this venue pay, even when the smoking ban came into place. pete knows he got many breaks to dj via tsop and mate big respect to you because youve done a bloody good job and i even got the chance on a number of occasions to take to the stage there...thats just how fair terry was. so hats off to one of lancashire's and the north-west's finest and have no doubt whatsoever, TERRY'S making a success of whatever he's doing!. ABSOLUTELY TERRIFIC POST MATE, TRUE TO EVERY WORD BRI PINCH

Do You Have Enough Money To Be A Top Northern Soul Dj?
bri pinch replied to Ian Dewhirst's topic in All About the SOUL
i replied to your post about keeping an eye on the dance floor and making sure your doing your job as a dj and make sure it dont empty, thats what should happen at an oldies night, at a R&U night you souldnt have to worry about the dance floor should should play those rare and underplayed gems YOU beleive in that are good enough, how the fook you gonna know if they are good enough if all you are thinking about is filling a dance floor and by doing that you be in that rut of an oldies dj, bolox to that and fook the dance floor you play what you believe in and if you do then i have a feeling the dance floor will get action if not blame the promoter for hiring you to dj bearsy GREAT POST BEARSY, TRUE IN EVERY WORD, TBH I DON'T EVEN BOTHER ACCEPTING BOOKINGS ANYMORE IF ALL THEY WANT IS A FULL DANCE FLOOR,BUT THEN AGAIN MOST OF THE BOOKINGS I,VE HAD ARE FROM PEOPLE WHO KNOW THE SORT OF STUFF I'M GONNA PLAY. i am aware there is an elitist click on the scene who must have high paid jobs to buy all this expensive vinyl? You obviously look down ur noses at the likes of me? and think i am below you lol... us poor low paid uneducated punters who turn out every week to hear the music we love meet friends from all over and have a good dance... i joined the scene mid 70,s for the love of the music and dancing,i couldnt give a donald duck about buying ultra rare expensive vinyl? in reality you aint above me even if you might think you are? am sure one or two of you are actualy decents folks... if you want the truth pal whilst you were out buying ur ultra rare records i was probably banged up in prison listening to me northern in me cell and still keping the faith...but heh ho thats life SAME HERE, I'M A PAINTER AND DECORATOR, IT'S A SHIT JOB, WITH SHIT PAY AND WORK SUPPLY THESE DAYS IS WHAT YOU CALL A LITTLE BIT...SHIT, BUT I ALWAYS BEEN A VINYL JUNKIE MUST HAVE BORT OVER 20,000 RECORDS FOR MY PRIVATE COLLECTION IN MI TIME, MAINLY INEXPENSIVE STUFF, BUT ALWAYS SOLD AND TRADED BITS FOR STUFF WHICH I NORMALLY COULDN'T AFFORD. MY DJ BOXES ARE LOOKING QUITE GOOD AT THE MINUTE BUT IT'S BEEN A LONG HARD SLOG SINCE THE MID 80 T'S BUT I FEEL I,M NEITHER SUPERIOR OR INFERIOR TO NO ONE BRI PINCH -
Not selling one are you . Russ PUT IT THIS WAY RUSS, I'D RUB THE RECORD QUITE HARSHLY UP AGAINST THE WOODCHIP WALLPAPER ON MI BEDROOM WALL, GRIND MI TEETH ON IT AND THEN DO A CUPPLE O' SPINS ON IT AS WELL,THEN YES IT'S YOURS FOR 400 QUID BRI PINCH (P S NEV WILL SELL HIS VERY SHORTLY, COS HE HAD IT LONGER THAN TWO WEEKS )

OK Bri, let's assume that I have impeccable taste and great instincts and I win the Euromillions lottery tomorrow and decide to buy EVERY killer rare record because I can. Money no object. Y'know leave Honky in the dust with his chump change LOL..... Surely the mere fact that I could acquire a £1,000,000 playbox very quickly would surely guarantee No.1 DJ status wouldn't it? The biggest dick on the block has always been an irresistible option to most people in my experience. Boy. If I win that lottery and get unlimited funds I'll buy out Moerer, Manship, Brown, Brady and Jeffries in one fell swoop and scoop up the rest of 'em in the next couple of days. I'll corner the market in rare soul vinyl and......................... Time for bed I think. God bless. Ian D BEEN DONE A FEW TIMES EH MATE, KNOW SEVERAL OF THE TOP JOCKS AT THE MO AND TEN YEARS AGO THEY WERE NOWHERE TO BE SEEN, IF YOU GOT THE CASH THEN RECORDS WILL COME TO YOU, YOU DON'T HAVE TO GO SEARCHIN FOR EM' BRI PINCH (STRUGGLIN MID TABLE IN LEAGUE ONE) -
