SCORCHER - THE FINALE ! All roads lead to The Potteries, Stoke on Trent, central England For THE BOSS weekender of the year, the 25th annual ‘SCORCHER’ event. The biggest original skinhead style do of the year, so whether you’re a face on the current original skinhead style scene, a mod, suedehead, Smooth, or just a fan of the original 1960’s Ska, R&B, Rock Steady, Upbeat Soul, Funk and Reggae, you won’t wanna miss this night. As this is the finale and the 25th anniversary we are doing a weekender special. Friday night features two of my personal favourite Soul/R&B D J’s in Noddy Blackburn and Paul Welsby. Seventies Smooths/Soul Boys, not only complete with the hair and clobber, but the big tunes to match. With Sounds & Pressure and Scorcher providing the sixties Jamaican sounds, in this classic sixties venue. Saturday night features along side Scorcher and Sounds & Pressure, my all time favourite Ska/Reggae D J bar none, Ska Jesus himself, the great Sugar Merchant. Remember people, win or loose it doesn’t matter, ‘cause a night like this may never come again. All music played is on original 7” vinyl, from the mega rare to the classics, but all with the beat to make you move your musical feet. And for your further musical pleasure Scorcher has hired in the mighty ‘Sounds and Pressure’ sound system, so you can hear the reggae and soul as it would have been heard back in the day. There’s also live footage of the records being played, screened up on the walls. There’s a free afternoon session on Saturday, from 12 noon to 6pm, so all can meet and greet, have a chat, a beer, and hear some sounds. There will be some food available at the venue, more details to follow, and just up the road there is a traditional British fish & chip shop. There’s always a good selection of vintage clothes and some record stalls present. If you want to sell something then just bring it along, there’s plenty of room, just grab a table and it’s free. All beers are on tap and at reasonable pub prices. So don’t be an L7, get hip, and suited and booted for the final *Scorcher*. The venue is situated in the small ex-mining town of Knutton, on the outskirts of Newcastle-Under-Lyme which is close to the M6 Junction 15, and this is where most of the hotels and B&B’s are, such as Travelodge, Newcastle-Under-Lyme, ST5 2RS (1 mile), Holiday Inn, J16, M6, ST5 4DL (4 mile), or if you fancy treating yourself, there is the Courtyard by Marriott, University Drive, Keele, Newcastle ST5 5NU (2 Miles). If you are flying in, then Stoke is situated in between Manchester and Birmingham airports, and has good rail links from both, with Manchester being the nearer airport at just 36 miles away. This is the same venue as last year (after receiving all positive feedback), which I think is bang on, built in the 1960’s and although the outside isn’t very attractive, the inside is classic 1960’s with a good size wooden dance floor, plenty of seating, and a cool raised bar and seating area. It has a large well stocked bar. £10 admission both nights (No tickets - Pay on The Door) The bar is also cash only Dress to impress, ‘cause remember, these times may never come again.
