Just sent you a pm Joe.

You can hear the whole tune (embedded in a mix though) here at 47.43: 64-minute mix £67 is cheeeap for such a good and seemingly rare tune.
-
I'm pretty sure they've heard 'Move on up'. Good choice Tommy. Maybe a comparison to 'We're gonna make it' would be fun? Now here's an idea; give all the students (or those over 18...) free tickets to one of your Oslo Soul Experience nights. That'll teach them.
-
Thanks Melismo, maybe we'll see you this Saturday already. Got a spare Rising Sun on Suncut btw. £25 incl shipping. Not in the best condition, but the 'One night' side plays fine enough for djing.
-
Please email me the mp3 Fonzie. Olof, do you remember shouting along to this at Ludvig's old bachelor's flat all those years ago? Precious memories. However, I think the beeps on the radio show actually improved the tune!

Glad you liked them Val. And Simon, oldies is my new thing.

That's yesterday's news...

Playing Rare Originals @ Venues: Does It Make Sense?
Helena replied to Ian Dewhirst's topic in All About the SOUL
This is so true. That practise hurts me inside everytime I see it, especially as many use poor needles, not to mention that a lot of people put too much weight on the tonearm and don't think about anti-skating. Madness. On a brighter note, I read an article recently about how vinyl is again increasing in poularity amongst Swedish hip hop and electronic music dj's. They said they liked the warmer sound of vinyl. And like spacehopper mentioned above, it's getting more trendy for contemporary artists to release their stuff on vinyl too. -
Simon, what a surprise to see you here... Like I stated in an earlier thread I won't sell that record ever....at least not in a very long time. A guy who calls himself RBman obviously doesn't share my taste in music.

These are still available...

Ehm, it is abroad. The link was to the website for Function in Malmoe, Sweden (that's why it's in Swedish ), which is a monthly club organised by Jonte, Joppe, Sebastian (he's on this forum too) and me. James's flyer is for his do Soul Revolution in London, which sounds very interesting from what I've heard.
-
Thanks. You obviously didn't spot this picture from the club...
-
True, but then don't go for the records the "20 top ebayers" want. There are so many other great ones and the desirable pricey records will hopefully still be around when all us oh ever so young collectors get proper jobs in a couple of years. Though I must stress that age and income don't always correlate and younger people usually don't have a family to take care of.
-
First, thanks JT for your many kind words... Money is without a doubt important, but it's all about prioritizing. Instead of hanging out at cool coffee shops every afternoon I search for records (and sometimes even do a bit of studying). I also don't dress even half as trendy as my fellow studymates and I couldn't care less. Talking about ebay, I wouldn't call the English a bigger problem than all the Japanese, American and European bidders. I usually win the ebay items I really want or somehow get them in the end anyway. My main struggle is that many of my wants simply aren't around and seem unknown to most dealers. There's no competition really, the issue is tracking a copy down.

I was at the Orwell a year ago. Wish I could be there tomorrow too.
-
Oh yes, including one of the best tunes ever 'Rose'. I can't believe I still haven't heard that one played out ever, I demand a change!
-
They all seem to have those bubbles under the label. Fantastic dancer btw...

That's the thing though, mixing different styles and putting together a slightly new concept. So what if the tunes were played in UK at some point at some club. It's not like we look at old English playlists from 20 yrs ago and choose which ones to play from that. We almost exclusively buy from American dealers and you'll probably find some more unknows in the new playlists. And our average age is 30, we're just babies really. Noone is diminishing the UK scene in any way, and I'm sure that's were the "HQ" will remain for a very long time.

...and in Malmoe at least once a month too Olof. ( www.clubfunction.com ) Plus there are regular soul clubs in Stockholm and Uppsala and the odd allnighter and weekender. Not that bad for a country with a total population of 9 million. I can only speak for my own club and us residents in south Sweden, but we do not try to mimic the UK soul scene and we are certainly not any smart dressed (quite the opposite ) mods playing r'n'b and boogaloo. I like the UK soul scene a lot, but we want to have something different too. Something with no politics, fresh tunes and an attractive atmosphere for new blood. >modernsoulsucks, you'll find a link to plenty of playlists in the right column on our website, will post a couple of new playlists up this week too along with pictures from last Saturday when Ian Wright (UK ) was over. I have to warn you though, much of it is modern soul.
