This week's offering was Goodyears, where we haven't been to for some time so it was with anticipation ro see what was on offer. We were pleased to arrive early as soon as we got there the venue started to fill up. Very promising. By the height of the night the room was approaching to capacity There were people there that we hadn't seen in some while, which was a good sign of what was to come during the night. Once the music started, it was a mixture of popular Northern Soul and underplayed. All of the DJs sets were keeping the floor full for most of the night. The star of the night for us was Mopsey, all I can add is that he knocked it out of the park and he kept the floor busy. The only down side to the night was that the floor could have been better, it was iffy last time we went and it hasn't improved Having seen that Mopsey is booked for next January then all I can suggest to those who didn't attend on Saturday most definitely pencil it in your dairies

The Regency was our destination this week and wow what a choice We arrived at opening time and it seemed as though the numbers were going to be low, incorrect. The room filled up quite quickly along with the floor with people enjoying the music. From the beginning the music was varied and people were lapping it up. All of the DJs played tunes for all tastes and kept the floor busy. This venue never fails to offer something for all tastes and continues to draw an attentive crowd and we cannot wait for the next offering For those who have thought about going, be warned you won't be disappointed------GO!!!!!!

Well this weeks adventure was to go to the relocated Byron, from it's old home to it's new home in Hucknall and the new night of the last Saturday in the month. OMG!!!!! We arrived to find the place absolutely packed. There were a mixture of soulers there, some who we knew from Kirk Hallam to some from other Nottingham events. The music hit us from the start and all of DJs played sets to be proud of, and all the DJs managed to keep the floor occupied. I would have given the event 6 * but the system doesn't go that high. The only fly in the ointment was that proposed room was out of use and the room used on the night was smaller and the floor was not giving. As a parting shot I would highly recommend to any soulers to try the Byron's new home as you won't be disappointed

This was our port of call for this week's helping of NS. Even though the weather was unpredictable and most areas of the Midlands had experienced snow and frosts the past week there was a healthy number attending the latest all nighter at Keele. The music was as usual non stop and all of the DJs managed to fill the floor with their offerings for the night. The attendees were from far and wide and seemed to enjoy their experience at Keele. Besides the music being varied all night, the floor itself was giving and the sound system was tip top If future planned events for Keele are going to offer such a great selection of DJs then I can highly recommend it as a place to try

Well we decided to go to Parklands for NYE after being told how wonderful the place and dance floor was. We were not misled. We arrived just after opening time to find the place almost full and to be met with music as soon as we walked through the door. The organisers had allocated tables to all parties attending, so there was no difficulty in getting seats. It was well organised for all of those attending. The music was varied all through the night and it was good not to hear any record being played twice, which is a great feat by all of the DJs. All of the DJs played great sets and kept the floor occupied all night I would like to say how grateful we are with how the organisers ran this momentous event. Also I do hope that the organisers can organise the same for NYE 2025, if so, I can highly recommend that if anybody wants to go here then go for it

This weeks adventure was to Kidsgrove and to be honest it was a great choice. We had been told that it was a go to event by a friend who attended the previous event, and they were spot on. As soon as we landed the venue had as promised a fantastic floor that didn't require any enhancing. The music was a mix of rare, underplayed and some top 500, along with some R & B, with all the DJs making their contributions to keep the floor occupied. If you want to go to an event that offers a variety of music then I strongly suggest that you give Kidsgrove a try

This weeks adventure was The Shed, which we were looking forward with anticipation after attending last years event. After last years adventure we arrived early in order to find seats, which we achieved. So far so good. The music hit us when we got through the door, which was a varied selection and gave us promise for the event. As the night progressed the music was a varied mix of top 500 and some lesser known tunes. I don't like pointing one specific DJ out, but Amy's set was a real mix of popular and lesser known tunes. There was one big disappointment for the night and that was the floor, it was like dancing in treacle, hence the low star award

This was our choice of NS event after we been told it was a dedicated function room and an event to try. It was an adventure in getting to the venue which something like a ride on a rollercoaster, and we weren't made aware that it's high up in the Peak District. So far so good?? There were punters awaiting for the doors to be opened, which gave us a promise of a night to enjoy. The function room was well laid out with plenty of seating available, and also with a reasonably sized dance floor. The music was a smattering of top 500 with some R & B and other tunes lesser known. The music was continuous all night by both DJs. When it came to using the floor that was somewhat disappointing as some parts were giving whilst other areas were like dancing on toffee.

Well it was our first visit to Goodyears for quite a while. The unknown factor was, would it be affected by Blackpool NS weekender, in one word not a great deal. The number of people attending was quite encouraging. Would the music do the same? All the DJs played what music they felt fit to played for the night. There was a smattering of some top 500 tunes, but in the main it was an ideal night for music. The 'joker' in the pack was the guest DJ Taz, he played a well prepared set, with some tunes many wouldn't be aware of. For anybody who hasn't been there or not attended there for sometime, then it's a place to put on your go to event.

Worcester was my destination for Saturday's NS offering. We arrived reasonably early only to find a fair number of Soulers already in attendance. It was our second visit to The Hangar and it was good to see that the dance floor had been updated making dancing somewhat easier on the body. This was good, as the music was a good mix throughout the night and the dance floor was well populated. The majority of DJs played music known to the main number of those in attendance and most of the punters remained there for the duration I would like to say a big thank you to Kev for arranging the night and DJs and that Kev had a great birthday

Well this weekend started off with a visit to Macclesfield, which was last visited under the previous promoters Mopsey and Foxy. There was some apprehension as feedback from Part 1 was that it was not being well attended We arrived early and initially there was a lack of attendees, but this gradually increased as the night went on. Also as the night improved with attendees the music did with a good mix of music along with the floor improving over the length of the night. The music was a mixture of underplayed tunes and some of the popular ones by all of the DJs I would like to add that if the increase in attendees continues then Macclesfield should return to it's halcyon days(fingers crossed) -
This weeks adventure led us to The Grosvenor Rooms, where it had been a considerable time since lasted visited. When we arrived we just managed to get some seats as it was packed. This gave us some hope that we were in for a great night of music. If you enjoyed hearing the more common Northern Soul then this would be ideal for you. All of the DJs played good sets and when Ted came on to play his set as per usual he did not disappoint. The dance floor was busy for most of the night and with the newly installed A/C wasn't too hard on the feet

Well this was the event that I deemed to attend, as I have been here before People were queued on the stairs well before designated start time, myself included. Upon entry the various seat and tables were quickly occupied, and the one noticeable difference was that the fans were on. The fact the fans were on before the start made a significant difference to the dance floor, making it less sticky than the previous event nights. Added to this, people were on the floor virtually from the start This theme continued through out the night and all of the DJs played wonderful sets. There appeared to be a small drop in numbers attending against previous month's events, possibly because Scarborough was on, but on the whole I cannot fault the night

Having attended the first event earlier this year then the thought of attending this offering was holding great anticipation for me The evening started off well despite the floor not having any give, then those attending with great expectation were subject to 2 hours of modern/crossover music. The majority of those attending were stuck to their seats as they didn't know the majority of the tunes being played during these 2 hours. The mood changed when the mighty Ted took to the decks and then the event got back on to the main line and the remainder of the event was kept on the right track

This event was my port of call this weekend It was a small event with a big heart. The moment I walked into the room I saw that it was well attended and to hear tunes unknown to me. This theme continued for most of the night, there some of the top 500 played, but in general it was an education. Added to which the floor itself was good and a joy to do some moves on. The room was just the right size not to be intimidating, so ideal for somebody who wants to be educated with rarely played tunes and to do some moves.

So this weeks adventure was Keele All Nighter. I was a little apprehensive as I heard that the last event was low on numbers. How would it pan out? We arrived before 8 along with some other soulies. Upon entering from 8 until about 9:30 there didn't seem to be the expected numbers, but there was a sudden rash of punters coming into the main room. Boy there were in for a treat. From 8 onwards the music did not disappoint and all of the DJs played music off the wall, which kept the floor busy. The only blip of the night was towards the end of Ted's set when the music system decided to act up somewhat, this didn't spoil Ted's exceptional set. This was fixed and the music kept on coming for the rest of the night. I don't know when the next episode is planned for, but I can only hope that it will be as good as this.

Byron was this weekend's offering and what it offers is totally unbelievable. For those of you that I haven't considered going there you are missing out. The venue offers a university course of musical delights and it's there to educate and provide pleasure. What makes it that notch above other venues is that there are deck cams, so you can see OVO. This allows the punter to see what's being played and the next cued record. Personally it's educational for me, rare and underplayed records that most other venues will not consider. The venue itself is well set out and the floor is one of the best outside Blackpool., with a very friendly crowd. Once again, if you've not been there make the effort to go and be amazed

Well after a busy weekend it's decision time in writing a review on one of the NS events from the weekend So Hazel Grove it is. The room that this event is held in is very well set up, there's a wonderful floor, plenty of seating and a good bar. This event was well attended, especially from people who used to attend Macclesfield. The music played was not for the faint hearted, if you were expecting NS records that are regularly played elsewhere, then forget it. Each DJ played a set that was R & B based with a sprinkle of known NS records. Each DJ's set was an education and a joy to behold. If you are looking for something that isn't Crossover or Modern then this a venue to think about

Well this weeks adventure was to attend the Blackburn Oldies. What can I say, but what a choice!!! The friends I went along with have been there before so they knew what expect, but as a newbie it was a voyage of discovery. And what a discovery. As soon as we walked through the door the music hit us and there were no top 500 records being played. The music was excellent all through the afternoon and you couldn't keep my friend off the dance floor. All of the DJs played superb sets and the floor had punters on there all afternoon Whilst talking about the floor, it was superb so much that there was no need for any talc or any other enhancements. The floor surroundings were ideal and what an excellent idea to provide hot and cold drinks, which were needed as it was a very hot afternoon. I've been to other Sunday NS events, but I can say this surpassed all others If are looking for a different musical aspect and want an enjoyable afternoon then this is the place to consider.

After checking for NS events that could be worth attending, our party decided to attend this event at Wootton Hall. Firstly the venue was very easy to find and there was an ample car park attached to the venue. So far so good. Upon entry we were pleasantly surprised with the set up of the room. it was well set up with sufficient seating along with a reasonably sized dance floor. We set ourselves down in our seats and awaited for the time to use the dance floor. The floor wasn't too bad but in my opinion it could have been polished for this event, as there were places where there was no give in the floor. As far as the music was concerned, in general it was mostly known tracks, there was very few records played that were unknown to us. All of the DJs played reasonable sets and those that attended used the floor and there were very few moments when the floor was unoccupied It is my opinion that this venue is something to watch out for future events, assuming that will be the case. I would request that the music could be a little more varied with some underplayed records.

I'm back down to reality after this weekender, and well what can I say about this event. There was a party of us who encamped in the main ballroom all weekend. That was for all sessions. Some of our party have been in the NS scene for some time and there comments flying about ' I haven't heard this record for a long time. Other comments were, what's this, it's new to me. The point I'm making is that the music was varied for all tastes and the DJs' mixed it up with their sets. I do not normally point any DJ out, but I must say the best sets, for me, over the weekend were from Luci Jones and Mark Sargeant. Their music was something special and a lot of the records they played were unknown to me. Whilst mentioning Luci, I spoke with her father and he told me that she has only been a DJ for 3 years, so I anticipate more to come. The one noticeable factor, which unfortunately is life, there were very few younger Northern Soulers there. I know the promoters have booked the DJs for next year. But it maybe something to consider in booking some of the young and upcoming DJs for future events, to entice the younger Northern Soulers to want to attend this wonderful event. To conclude I would like to thank the promoters and all the DJs for making this weekend superb and long may it continue -
It has been some time since my last visit to Rugby and I can say safely that the music policy hasn't changed. If anybody was expecting music from the top 500 then there will be some disappointed customers. We arrived just before 20:00 and the music from the start was exceptional and to say rare and underplayed. The floor, which was a joy to dance on, was well occupied by the punters. Whilst talking about the punters, it was a joy to see a large young element there, who were enjoying the music and demonstrating their approval by getting onto the floor. All of the DJ's, whose music we enjoyed until the time we left, played records that were relatively unknown to myself. But that didn't detract from it being an enjoyable night. For anybody considering going to the next event there and looking for music different from other venues then I can recommend Rugby and they won't be disappointed

Well what can I say about the latest event at The Byron. The whole set up is welcoming and the organisers are very friendly as soon as you walk through the door. The set up of the room is ideal with a superb dance floor. This was accompanied by music from all of the DJs that was above your normal. All of the DJs played excellent sets and the music was far better than expected. If anybody hasn't been to The Byron yet, then I would highly recommend that you give it a try you won't be disappointed
