Heads Up On One Of The Best Ever Crossover Records I've Ever Heard
mshoals replied to Steve Plumb's topic in Look At Your Box
By mistake as it seems now, 'Old Friend' somehow ended up though on a 'Fame studios discography' list (together with all the unissued titles mentioned), which could be downloaded from the Fame web site a couple of years ago. Agree with the others that Breaking Point is a great track, very much looking forward to the full CD release. -

In this thread the Charay discography was also discussed, and several 45s were added to the discography above:

The one on the site is the UK Stax release. In the US it was only on Gospel Truth.

Al Green: Soul Perfection...what's Your Favourite Track?
mshoals replied to a topic in Look At Your Box
That's also my favourite. -
Same backing track for Don Bryant and Tony Ashley, as noted by Sir Shambling: https://www.sirshambl...tony_ashley.htm

There have been at least 2 copies of Just Ask The Lonely on ebay this year which were around $500, and I bought a (mint) copy of this for $200 a few months ago (ebay Buy It Now). So the price above seems a bit high.

Is this the same Prolifics / Drive label, as the label design / numbering are different?
-
Another (non-soul) addition to the discography: Golden 108 - Department of Sound - I've Got Money / Things Have Just Begun
-
Another release on the label is: Golden 119 - Johnny Wonder - Cryin' In The Streets / No More Ghettos In America Some "Lil" Willie tracks on Golden have just been added by Sir Shambling on his site: https://www.sirshambl...lil_willie.html

Obviously a very different style, but the Grace Gospel Singers on the label (which is already in refosoul) is a very good deep/southern gospel 45. THE GRACE GOSPEL SINGERS - LET THIS TRAVELER IN - TUSKA -
-
There are also at least 2 LPs on the label: 1001 - Wilbert Harrison - Anything You Want 1002 - T-Bone Walker - Stormy Monday Blues

Are you sure there were green Stax 45s / multicoloured Volt 45s pressed *before* the Stax/Atlantic divorce (May '68)? In the Stax newsgroup I found a quote by Stax expert Rene Wu stating: "After the distribution deal was concluded in May 1968, Atlantic became the owner of all Stax/Volt material. However, the stack of record logo as well as the lightning logo remained at Stax. So Atlantic was not able to released records with those logo's. That's why they introduced the green and multicolored Volt label. To gain airplay Atlantic released promo copy's of those newly labelled 45's. ( about the same reasons why a record company had one or more sub labels)." (see also thread https://www.soul-sour...1entry1102523 ) Stax 247 also exists on green: Some other multi-coloured Volt 45s I have are 117, 138 (Otis Redding) and 160:

The price has dropped a bit though with the various copies. Last month one was sold on ebay for $300, and a few days ago (all from the same seller) I was very happy to get my copy for $260. Perhaps the price will drop even more if the seller has a box full? Great record anyway, especially the other side (The Girl That Radiates That Charm). Tony, is there any chance of a CD reissue of these sides (as Ace has already compiled other Judd sides and these Arthur Alexander tracks are already on an old ACE LP)? This was probably the original version of TGTRTC? I've got another (inferior) version on a very early Fame release:

There are 2 different issues of this, one with "I Only Want To Be With You" on the B-side, the other with "The Bells Of Saint Mary"
-
Hep'Me 134 is the 12" issue of Johnny Adams - Spanish Harlem / Feel The Beat, Feel The Heat (7" issue is on Hep'Me 132)

There's an excellent site about the Hit Records label which at least contains an extensive discography: https://www.hitrecordsofnashville.com/

Soul/garage 45S From Greenville Mississippi
mshoals replied to Kris Holmes's topic in Look At Your Box
No, The Dungill Sisters 45 title refers to poverty, social unrest, violence in general, etc. Perhaps Tina is the lead singer of the sisters? The 45 is not among the better releases on the set of labels. Another 45 which is not in the list yet: Big Beat 1278 - The Soul Twins - If It's Something You Got And It's Worth It Having / Come On Everybody Get With The Beat
