Eddy Giles On Silver Fox And Murco 1042
mshoals replied to Ady Croasdell's topic in Look At Your Box
Ady, I'll send you hi-res scans for both. The Silver Fox 45 has a drill hole though, so you might need a cleaner copy for that one. -
He had at least 5 45s on Nu Sound, so which track do you need?
-
Shouldn't that be sharlow45 ?

The blue copy has "GR-1672-A" and "GR-1672-B" in the runout and "1005" on the label (both sides). The green version with Funky, Funky Twist has "1005" on the label (both sides) and "GR-1672-A" in the runout of FFT and "GR-1672-B-R", "1005-2" in the runout of the FTOH side. I don't have the third version, but this seems to indicate that the blue 509 release was earlier than the green 509 release.

This should be: Gamma 117 - The Barons - Lonely Afternoon (Part 1) / Lonely Afternoon (Part 2) Gamma 101 - Johnny Adams - Sharing You / The Best Of Luck To You

Dave, You can find the B sides for Hep'Me 112, 172, 177, 178, 182 in the listing at monola linked to above. Hep'Me 130 and 153 are LPs. Also JB's 975 from the monola list is still missing. The picture of Hep'Me 131 (Charles Brimmer) above is from a (probably) Dutch 45, I don't think this exists as a US release with that number (only as Hep'Me 2). Hep'Me 102 also doesn't exist I think (it's the same as Hep'Me 2). As also mentioned on monola Hep'Me 108 exists with 2 different titles for the A side (same song though).

Many gaps can be filled in from these discographies: Hep'Me: https://monola.net/laba0053.htm JB's: https://monola.net/laba0041.htm Mode: https://monola.net/laba0447.htm Jenmark: https://monola.net/laba0063.htm Superdome: https://monola.net/laba0103.htm These are not yet in the discographies here or on monola: An LP which is also missing on the monola site is: Hep'Me 153 - Clem Easterling - Just In Time Hep'Me 101 by Senator Jones is a late 90s release (Hep'Me 1 and 2 are from 1970).

I bought a spare copy last year on ebay from a seller who had a few of these, and sold them at $9 each (buy it now).

Probably “original” refers here to original local release vs (slightly) later national release. So it could be a classic on a major label (Bell, RCA, MGM, …) he has now found on a (possibly one-off) local label.

It’s indeed a great resource. A few days ago I’ve started to compile a list on there (with lots more to add in the next days) of all (local) master numbers used on Henry Stone’s Florida group of labels: https://www.45cat.com/45_list_view_track.php?li=1353

Number 303 is a 1964 Snooks Eaglin 45 (as "Lil" Snook : Cheetah / Sweetness): https://www.wirz.de/music/eaglfrm.htm

Thanks, that seems to confirm that copies with closely spaced matrix numbers in the wax are indeed originals.
-
Hopefully someone can help, because it's still not clear to me how to distinguish originals for this 45. I now have 2 copies of this, the first one depicted above in the thread and the second depicted here: The labels look very similar. Both have the printing error mentioned above for the last dot in S.O.B. (in the right part of the dot some black is missing). Both also have PRP-3943-1/PRP-3943-2 in the wax. But there's a clear difference. For the first copy there's quite some space between the symbols in the wax. E.g. at both sides of the "-" in the matrix number after PRP there's enough room to fit another letter or digit. This is shown in the picture below: For the second copy the letters/digits in the wax are much closer together: My guess is that the first copy is a bootleg (for the Dutch deep soul scene?), as it came from The Netherlands, and the second copy (from the U.S.) is original. But it could also be the other way around of course. Or it could be that both are originals or both are bootlegs? Does anyone have any further clues?

Willie And Anthony 'selfish Lover' Molly-Jo - Boot?
mshoals replied to Duke's topic in Look At Your Box
There are actually 2 Molly Jo 45s with "Selfish Lover", one backed with "One Hand (Wash The Other)", the other backed with "I Can't Leave Your Love Alone" (which is also on Blue Candle 1501). -
The Buck Floyd 45 is on an unrelated third Derby label (from Kentucky).

Best Three Records On Labels That Are One-Offs
mshoals replied to Derek Pearson's topic in Look At Your Box
There are other releases on Briarmeade, such as at least 2 Frankie Ford 45s. -
Thanks Matt, these are indeed among the missing numbers on the 1967 page: https://cosimocode.com/1967.htmlhttps://cosimocode.com/1967.html

In case you don't know it yet, this Nettie Marsh is a not very interesting pop/country 45.

A few White Cliffs 45s which are still missing in the list on the Cosimo Code site are: 243 - The Magnetics - Sacrificing / Tomorrow 253 - Bourbon Street Cabaret Band & Stripping Soc., Inc. - Linda Baby Pt. 1/Pt. 2 285 - The Montaltos - Our World / Life Goes On Does anyone have the codes (205-xxxx) on the labels of these (e.g. Matt who added 253 or Doc Rock who added 285 in this thread)? Or does anyone have scans of the Joe Parker 45 on Tasco?
-
Recently the Cosimo Code site was started, documenting the master series assigned by Cosimo Matassa: https://cosimocode.com/more.html One that is still missing in the list (it probably has a Cosimo code) is: Bonatemp 401 - Willie Tee - You Gotta Pay Some Dues Does anyone have a readable scan of this (both sides) to get the codes? Also the B-side of Shagg 713 - Senator Jones - Do You Love Me is still missing. For the "Do You Love Me" side the code is 205-2652, but does anyone know title/code for the other side?
