Anderson Brothers another EvilBay auction OG scam ?
Soul Salad replied to Tlscapital's topic in Look At Your Box
Yes it is but if you have nothing to hide Youd post your answer publicly - your there to sell it -
On the good advice of Shinehead, I am interested to know the thoughts of the "younger" NS collectors, don't really want a specific age but for arguments sake say mid 30s. Are you new to collecting/How long? How did you get into it? What sort of records are you buying? I'd be really interested to know. Thankyou

Who are the NS record collectors of the future?
Soul Salad replied to Soul Salad's topic in All About the SOUL
Surely many new members are joining SS weekly, there are surely "younger" collectors on this site? just for a take on whether they collect or not/what they collect/how did they get into the scene/do they have young friends that are into the scene/how are their collections financed - i would just be interested. -

I was going to say the above but i didn't as it's so near to Christmas! But "who" are these people and collectors in 10-20 years' time? I realise there is a constant supply of new/younger people coming onto the scene but are there enough? - do DJs/people promote the scene to younger people who don't know anything about it? or not? -

Thanks, I completely agree with you, but It's not really about that, agree my thread was pretty "loaded" i should have been clearer/more specific as in who? are the people that are going to be buying and collecting these NS records in 10 years' time, and how would they afford to buy them. It WONT be my children or any of their friends, they hate my music and a record player is to them an antique - Where will the new collectors come from and what will they be buying? I'm afraid i don't go to soul events so I'm clueless but is there a good mix of "young" people there dancing/listening to or buying records? PS How much is classed now as a "cheap" record? I fear soon i will be literally "scraping the barrel" -
I have far too many questions floating around in my head (and a week off work and already done my Christmas shopping plus heavy rain ALL week) As a "young" 40 something year old with a "normal" but well-paid job, a mortgage (only 20 years left!), 2 young teenagers etc etc. I have seen a vast change in a relatively short period of time with regards to values/asking prices for most records You'd class as decent. I've never been a "serious" collector but always enjoyed the buzz of finding a great record for very little money. I am unfortunately running out of funds to purchase pretty much anything except a few very well-contemplated/chosen records, nowadays mainly reissues. I simply can't afford to fund my collection as i used to, probably even only five or so years ago had a pretty plentiful supply of £2-15 records to fuel my appetite. I used to buy perhaps 30-40 records a year, now I'm down to maybe 4/5 or so for me i LOVE the music but the fun is going/gone, certainly for collecting - Fast Forward to now, those same cheap records are (with P&P) £30-40 +/++, can't see these records ever becoming less expensive especially as NS collecting is now a very "international" hobby. What about the teens or 20 somethings who are now into or will be into NS and want to start collecting. The internet really has been a double-edged sword, you can often find pretty much anything plus of course those elusive ones but the asking prices for most common but good records are now way beyond what i can afford. Let's face it a "cheap" record out there is now the guts of £30+/++ I get that NS collecting has always had big ticket items, so for some has always been an "elitist" hobby but.......... Any opinions as to the "future" of record collecting for the "normal" folk especially those who haven't yet discovered NS (the teens/the twenty somethings) Will your siblings inherit your collections? (Do they even like your music) Will NS record collecting become a purely elitist hobby, is it that already? or has it already been so for decades? What are other "poor" people like me doing to fund/fuel their habit? or have prices forced you stopped collecting/buying? (I've found absolutely NOTHING in charity/record shops for years!) Thankyou

Actually 4 in all, luckily the recent one was a slightly warped Leon Collins with a big scratch on it so no value really but don't want it happening again. Ive gone through all the others, no cracks so will see. Thankyou
-
No, in an upstairs bedroom in 2 singles crates not over/under packed and ALL are in cardboard sleeves as well as co sleeves. Maybe i brought them cracked? LOL would be very surprised as i scrupulously check every record i buy. Our house is Victorian/sash windows/coastal etc, must admit can get freezing when were out, not sure would cause a crack though.

2 were vinyl - Carl Hall on Columbia styrene i think?
-
Two of mine were £40 ish records the other was a mint Stevens & Foster - Is it the cold/the heat/both?
-
Just a quick one Have any of you pulled out a record that you 100% know wasnt cracked the last time you carefully looked at it played it then carefully put it away again? Then a few months later pull it out an its cracked? Happened to me three times now (doesn't seem a lot) in 20 or so years but all were loved records one was valuable. Ever happened to anybody else? Thanks

I've been burnt (a few times!), I'm sure most of us have to one extent or another. Let's be honest, this Rare NS collecting compared to other forms of collecting ie art/antiques etc is a tiny niche market. I can't comment on its authenticity at all, no way qualified. Therefore "if" i wanted a record and i was going to have to shell out whatever this one goes for (presuming 1K +?), then personally i would have to be absolutely 100% convinced it was "right" If i wasn't or i hadn't done my homework, I'm sorry but in my opinion then you literally have money to burn and more fool the buyer. BTW not for a millisecond condoning this sort of scam (if it's a scam) -
My Top Ten is always changing sometimes by the month (fickle i know), but there are 5 that have pretty much "always" stayed on my list (well for 7/8 years or so) They are in no particular order. Strangel before discovering these were ALL 70/80s Modern soul (and some Disco! - even some Jazz). Tan Geers - Let my heart and soul be free - Pure perfection for me plus a fantastic thread on "who were the Tan-Geers?" BTW (Soul Source) - Read it all 4 times now LOL, just fascinating and captivating - PS Any update? Alan Harris and Perpetual Motion - Get ready - Just Brilliant Mello Souls - We can make it - For me the only record i hope never gets re-issued! Cajun Hart - Got to find a way Ray Pollard - This Time - Now crossed off my "wants" list as pointless. I would be really interested to know your sounds or maybe one or two that have never really fallen off your Top Ten list or has it always remained fairly consistent? or maybe you never really had a top ten as its always changing?

If all your pay all goes into a "joint" bank account we don't..............................................I know I know

Right ive made up my mind.I'm putting up my copy of Skiing in the snow tonight on ebay!
-
Are these new buyers collectors?. I suspect not, think they're investors You see those eye watering prices for stuff on Discogs - wonder if people actually buy them - Anyway this is a different thread.
-
Yes, as i thought - Thats pricey for a not particularly "rare" record
-
PS Anyone have any idea of a "sensible" price for this currently i.e. a clean US issue?
-
Thanks Guys, much appreciated! I have two reissues already, but i have a small list of records i MUST have originals for - this being one - I will hopefully tick it off my list this year coming unless my daughter wants to go on "another" expensive school trip Dax
-
Hi, Not really a collector now (have a very few gems from my original list of 12 - 5 to be exact) but Got to find a way Cajun Hart always been a record i intend to own at some point on my list, had a couple of chances over the years but either price/lack of funding at the time or condition issues have put me off. I want to know is this record "rare" or are copies just all sitting in collections i.e. hence not rare just supply and demand and few/none left to buy. I only ask as it was released on a good few WB labels in US and Europe and with presumably with good distribution. Thanks

LOL -OK a bit of a blast from the past Rare groover but better than Mr Stevens in my opinion
-
Lovely! - Thing is, it's a great song - not sure you could make a bad cover.
