  1. It has to be the ultimate guy's 'I don't really give a shit' record....and that goes to... EDDIE PARKER - 'I'M GONE' (I know your saying 'she's gone' but you get the drift when you listen to the lyrics). "... I dont need no woman always telling me what to do.."
  2. I just want to add that 861 (real title 'Kiss Me') isn't that bad a record, it's an ok Doo-wop/early Northern dancer with some great horns. If the buyer got it fairly cheaply then he should'nt be too worried.
  3. Here's a couple of East Anglia patches, bought in the late 70's. Are they worth anything? Was gonna put them on the bay but won't bother if they're none sellers.

  5. In 1979, the revival of Ben Sherman's, Crombies etc was widespread all over the UK. I was into Northern as well as the Ska & Reggae, heady days!
  6. Just to clarify something for you, the Velvets released Monument 861 with the wrong title, that issue should be titled 'Kiss Me' which is corrected on their E.P. & L.P
  7. Thom Bell?
  8. Possibly too poppy for some Pete, I like it and the horns are perfect Northern Soul style. If I knew how to do sound files i'd stick it on. Like I said, there was some interesting bits in those boxes (including Nappy Brown - London American 1958), and he say's there's still more up there! He used to go to a lot of auctions out in the sticks and would buy boxes of records for peanuts, rumage through them and pick out those he wanted on his juke box that sits in his living room, the rest he stuck up in the loft.
  9. Makes you wonder how many Northern Soul 'stars' are cutting it as Motown/Stax tribute acts. Saw a group in Spain couple of years back calling themselves 'The Majestics'. They basically did Motown stuff...Four Tops, Temps, Contours etc and they were all young guys except for the lead singer, he was in his late 50's. He was introduced as Richard Taylor.
  10. Hi Paul, Want the other one by the Prophets on Jubilee if you have it (can't remember the title now). Sorry about Friday, firstly I got told that it was cancelled so made other plans. Then Ian text me the new venue, by this time Perry had bailed out, Cotty never returned my call and Ian could'nt go! Then to top it off, my missus got taken to hospital, the 2 teenage daughters were out so I was home alone with my 16 month old baby! John
  11. Forgot to say, the flip 'Was On A Night Like This' is a great mid-tempo track that some might prefer.
  12. My girlfriend's dad's been clearing his loft and gave me 3 box full of old UK 45's to look through and keep what I wanted. Found loads of great soul and general 60's beat unknowns. Not sure where this 45 fits in but it's a nice blue eyed up-tempo dancer with Northern Soul horns....is it known? Has it been played? I've certainly never heard of the group before. It's a 1967 shapiro Bernstein Polydor release. The Urchins - I Made Her That Way - Polydor (1967)
  13. Graham Norton just introduced a 'Temptations' tribute act on the show with, 'Nate Evans'!! Must admit he's about that age and "All the way from L.A".

  21. There is NO 70's version, there were about 3 different takes ALL cut in the 1960's!!! The 70's RELEASE is one of the 60's takes.
