  1. Re Dobie Gray: I know exactly what you were thinking pogo....'Drift Away' (his big hit) is such a white sounding m.o.r tune!!! During the 70's when I saw the singer of that song I was shocked!
  2. I disagree, most US dealers I know think its in sterling. You only have to go to a record show and see prices on records. At the recent Allentown show I asked a few dealers how they got to that price and they said "Its 50 pounds in Manships book, that makes it 100 dollars". I`m sure john wont mind me saying that most of the book is on the high side so if the record is only a £40 record anyway where do you start to negotiate on a record they want $100 for!? Ok, there are some exceptions and luckily most dealers do appreciate you need a deal after coming so far to buy records. What really pisses me off is when you get guys at soul nights or on here using the book as a bible and every price is from the guide regardless of condition or the fact they have no Tax, VAT or Import duty to pay. I know earlier editions did make reference to VAT being included in the price. I guess what pisses me off is not the book but the way people use it and interprate it. Chris.
  3. It's just typical American's really, they think the world evolves around them (we still love them though), so obviously an AMERICAN SOUL price guide is gonna be in dollars!
  4. Like I've said before...MOST of the Americans think the book is in dollars! I've had records from the States with scribbling on the sleeve saying things like...'manship's $150'... and when i've looked I see its John's actual (sterling) price!! Had quite a lot like this, especially off one seller in particular... So, John....don't EVER put a £ sign before your prices in the guides!!!
  5. Stuart Ames......white?? Are you sure? Hard to tell on this one. What about Solomon King....
  6. Obviously white, Motown(ish)?? Nice sound, I'm collecting the label and will look out for this one.
  7. Great tracks, previously unreleased anywhere else... EXCEPT the Mary Wells, 'When I'm Gone' is on her Motown L.P 'Vintage Stock'
  8. It's on their 'Nitty Gritty' album.
  9. Watch out! All yellow label is a boot. Mainly yellow but must have some red in it (think it's the syringe)for a real one.
  10. On the Sounds Superb (70's) label I think only the Kiki Dee and Jimmy Ruffin releases contained previously unissued tracks. MFP (red label late 60's early 70's) had unreleased tracks on the Contours & Isley Brothers (My Love Is Your love) L.Ps. Starline (1960's) had 4 releases: Marv Johnson, Mary Wells & 2 Isley Brothers (both Isleys full of unissued gems) The Marvin Gaye 'Sounds Superb' orange cover that bigsoulman talks about is the better cover of 2 releases by him (both contain the same tracks).
  11. Neptunes & Lost Souls available. P.m'd you.

  21. Agree, bet the vocal has never been played on the scene?? The Lovin' Spoonful also did a great version of Len Barry's (among others)...'You Baby'
  22. Well, I can tell you that my ISSUE is vinyl and not styrene, I can also tell you that that it's a fantastic dancer that's gaining a good reputation....but then you knew that already!
