I got the book yesterday too! Interesting to note that there's only 1 Kent 6ts anniversary 45 (Carla Thomas). I have consequently e-mailed them with a few piccies of the other collectable (quite highly priced) 45s on this label.... Magicians, Lorraine Chandler, Sharon Scott....so expect a small bit in the next issue of RC.
  2. Soul Set....wow! Jammy git!
  3. Soul-slider posted a post in a topic in Look At Your Box
Joyce Bond version too, Island 45 though.
  4. Wouldn't have thought it was too expensive but i've only ever seen 1 copy for sale and that's the one I own!! Car Boot sale special, £1 about 10 years ago.
  5. Hesitations - moulded over label = boot. 100% Has to be styrene stick on label for ALL Kapp USA original 45s. (except maybe Canadian????)
  6. Spot on!, no UK 45 legally available, only on this UK RCA compilation album.

I like it! But then I do like beach/Garage/Carolina influenced Northern anyway. But I want a cheaper one!!!!

If anyone's interested, Little Tommy - Baby Can't You See also came out on those re-issue l.ps from the (late 80's?) soul supply gang, The Northern Soul Story volume 16. Sleeve notes state that the record is from Richmond - a non r&b area..(their words).

Hey Chalky, perhaps the BMR stands for: BOOT MUSIC RE-ISSUE
  10. Soul-slider posted a post in a topic in Look At Your Box
'Just Crazy 'Bout You Baby' on BMR is a re-issue from the states didn't think it was a boot though. Having said that, the sound quality on this BMR release is awful! Sound quality on the 'Stardust' re-issue is great. Just a point, their release on MGM 'Watch Out Girl' came in 3 different modes: plain yellow d.j d.j with the cartoon lion (extremley rare) gold/blue issue

I'll ask Al if he knew the Nomads/ Soul Set and get back to you ok. I'm working on getting an orange moon. What's the blue one 'Stubborn Kind of Fellow' like, I understand the flip is a worthy tune too?? Any good?

Hi Mulf, Yes he knew the other Monzas, I have their 'Hey I Know You' but that's it of theirs, don't know the other 2 on Pacific. I'm gonna try for the Moon one on orange colour and I also want a copy of 'You Know You Turn Me On' which I heard off a CD by Baz and it's great. The book is out but I aint seen it available over here yet (might look on Amazon in a mo), problem with ordering it from the States is it's bloody heavy! postage will be crippling I bet. Johnny

[attachme t=19034:monzas_3_pic.jpg] Document_monzas_Al.rtf Document_monzas_Al.rtf Had a great e-mail from Al Wilkes, lead singer of the Monzas who recorded 3 (to my knowledge) great Northern tunes between 1967/70 ...these being 'You Know You Turn Me On' (Moon), 'Stubborn Kind Of Fellow' (Moon) & 'Try To Understand' (A La Carte, same label as the Martells Northern rarity). The Al Wilkes group are from Tenessee, not to be confused with the 'Carolina' Monzas who recorded for Pacific (Hey I Know You). Does anyone have a sound sample of 'Stubborn Kind Of Fellow' on Moon? It's the only one I aint heard of theirs. Anyway, here's the e-mails and a few pics..

So, he'll report an unpaid item? I'm confused?? Surely he won't get £250....back will he??
  16. 'Loving Him' Philly Groove 157 (1968)
  17. 'Massivest'....Is this an actual word?! 'Ten To One' holds great memories, but prefer 'You Fooled Me'..great sax throughout! I said SAX! Anyone got a piccie of Lou?
  18. Definitely...,had this discussion before and we all came to the conclusion that if a previously unreleased (or album track) tune got a legitamate release on 45 that it is considered an original release. Think 'Kent Anniversary' 45s for starters! Basically, if you're a UK collector, surely you gotta get all the latest releases...i.e Soul City, Grapevine, Kent. You'll only be kicking yourself in the future if you dont! Personally, (as a USA 45 collector first) I tend to go for the UK releases that never got a release anywhere else, this week I bought the 'Detroit Magnificents' and 'Al Williams' on Grapevine, both stunning tunes only available on vinyl this way.
  19. Got this myself.. had to pay £27 total (includes the postage) direct from Trojan. How much did you pay if you don't mind me asking? John

Boots dont have the JW006 in the run out grooves. They have S-3661 lightly scratched in and are white demo's with the same flip.

Thanks for that, just had a look on evilbay and none in sight at the mo. So i'm still up for a copy if anyone's got one knocking around, filed with their Wigans Ovations, Ruth Swann's etc... John
