  1. Surely.. 'Oxford Bags', 'Spencers', 'Bowling Shirts' et al were the fashion when Northern Soul was at its height? Mid 70's period. Basically, everyone was wearing these clothes, not just soulies. It's just a myth that these are Northern Soul (or 'Soulie') clothes/gear. If you go by the actual records, mainly 60's, early 70's and the fashions the artists wore and the original fans.....then (for me anyway) it has to be 'Ben Sherman', 'Levis'....etc. Always amuses me when folk not into the scene still think that we wear vests (with patches), Oxfords...and the rest. I suppose they're still regarded as Northern Soul clothes by the masses...
  2. The contemporary Reggae star!! What's his track like then? Any good? 60s sounding? Aint seen the cd but will have a look, what store?
  3. As a motown collector myself, including albums (love 'em!)....this is a nice item! I have a similar thing but a tape cassette of Miracles stuff with the same kind of cover 'Special Promotional Album For Radio Stations', got it at an American Air Base car boot (with several other goodies) years ago. Temptations 'Smiling Faces Sometimes' is on their 'Sky's The Limit' L.P.
  4. Supremes is a great early dancer and a hard one to get on the Motown front. Don't know it's full value but I guess £30/40.
  5. mmmm...hopefully will come in the next coupl'a days. I paid $5 but it's worth considerably more! Just hope he didn't get wind before posting!!! Surely if he posted surface he should have said and taken less $$$$ for the postage??? Bloody Yanks!
  6. How long should a couple of 45s take to come from the USA, Pennsylvania (to the UK)? I paid $8 postage for 2 records on 12th Feb, seller say's he posted them 13th Feb....well it's now 1st of March and I aint had a thing... I suppose if you take out Sundays it's been 15 postal days. Is this a normal waiting time? Am I worrying too much? The thing is, one's a Chuck & Eddie on S.I.G.N that I paid $5 for and I can't wait for it to come!!!!
  7. I have the Sapphires 'I've Got Mine, You Better Get Yours' on a white Swan demo with checkered vinyl on the flip...looks really cool.. I also have the same checkered pattern in the vinyl on a Sunny & Sunliners' white demo on Teardrop J.J Jackson 'Seems Like I've Been Here Before' Calla single sided demo too, smooth vinyl on the flip.
  8. He (the actor) is DEFINITELY a northern soul fan, in another episode (first series) he was wearing a 'Northern Soul' T shirt with the black 'Right On' fist in the middle!! It's a fact that most actors in modern day to day tv series wear their own clothes....well, I would anyway!
  9. 'The Same Old Thing' - Olympics (Mirwood)....great oldie that you never hear anymore, and cheap!!!
  10. Here's a cheapie tip by the guy....'You Gotta Have Love' on Back Beat....stonkin' R&B/Northern
  11. First of a series then. Island records to start, great label! Might purchase a copy...
  12. Great, thanks for that Chalky. Hasn't arrived from the States yet so I can't wait! My mate has a copy and he played it to me, superb tune! Out and out Northern.
  13. CHUCK & EDDIE - We Got A Good Thing Going (S.I.G.N) (Absolute stonkin' Northern Soul, unknown and a potential monster!) FOREVERS - What Goes Around (Weis) Both for £5 each!!!! Does anybody know the CHUCK & EDDIE? I know it's worth quite a bit, my mate Perry has seen one for 300 Euros a while back.
  14. Ernie Wheelright...Top Tune! Don't know the others. Chuck & Eddie - We Got A Good Thing Going (S.I.G.N) Frank Foster - My Assurance (Kris) That's only 2 off the top of me head....need some more time to think...old brain aint what it was!
  15. Mine's the same, deffo original, a lot of labels had different designs for Canadian issues so presume Mirwood could'nt be arsed and decided to distribute the same 45s/labels to Canada too. (????)
  16. Johnny Dunn...great tune! Managed to get one cheap from the States recently, i'd guess @ £75/100....?
  17. You're telling me!! One of my favourite groups! Even though they only had about 4 releases (including the one on Grapevine).
  18. tmg 677 SUPREMES - Will This Be The Day (crossover magic!) tmg 683 CONTOURS - It's Out Of The Question (no USA 45!) tmg 680 Marv Johnson - You Got The Love I Love (stonkin' Northern)
  19. Maurice Williams did the other version of Ben E. King's. Harold Melvin is a great mid-tempo offering with burping sax!
  20. Infuriates me too! Only on USA (and European) 45s though do they do this. All UK issues have the release date, us Brits don't mess about! There is a way to find the year of release by the 'Delta' numbers scratched in the run out grooves. John Manship has a table in one of his guide books.
  21. 2 Euro pic sleeves....Pic & Bill - Talk About Love (Belter) & Al Gardner (Googa Mooga) for approx £14 the pair!!!! Cliff Nobles - My Love Is Getting Stronger (Atlantic) £70 Johnny Dunn - Hangin' Me Up (Veep) £35 Don High - Better Get a Better Hold On (Apt) £40
  22. Most look like re-issues to me, i.e legal second copies approved by the owners of label/artists. some good stuff though
