  1. Do you think? I know it's been re-recorded/mixed cause' it's on my missus KFC cd and sounds 'newer', also on the Motown CD which came free with Q magazine (think it was that one). It's the drum beat which gives it away on these CD recordings, newish sounding like on a lot of Ian Levine's Motor City tunes. The 45 doesn't sound the same as these though, the backing is identical to the 60's cut, just Frank's slightly different vocal cut, bit of an "ah" here and a "huh" there and so on. I could be wrong though, perhaps he re-recorded the vocal over the 60's rhythm. Haven't played it for a while so will dig it out and give it another spin....
  2. Not sure if there's a 45 but the album is 'A Touch Of Today' on Capitol (UK & US)
  3. Subtle differences, soon as it started I knew it was different from the 1979/81 issue. Play them both one after the other and you'll hear the difference.
  4. Yeah, that's right, several pressings, but anyone of these worth having. RCA took over about 1981 (my copy came with an orange Tamla Motown sleeve RCA distributed and on the label). Some early ones on EMI have perforated middles, rest have solid centres.
  5. Easiest way to tell is the 1979 issue is distributed through EMI, the 1981 issue distributed through RCA. Also, the recent one with Chris Clark on the flip is a slightly different take.
  6. Thanks for that Delorenzo, I'm definitely interested in buying one. Find out what you can mate. Cheers, John
  7. So did Elton John when the Major toured the UK!!!
  8. Great tune, had it a few years....aint parting with it though! Like boba say's, you don't see it that often.
  9. ???????????????? The link is all in French and I can't understand it!
  10. Hi, When, and How can we get a book then?
  11. Thanks for that Sean! It's a great Northern dancer, I bought it blind cos' it sounded good.....and it is! I had heard of Paul Davis before (think he was solo on a couple of Bang releases?).
  12. Great Northern 45 I just picked up from L.A by 'The Six Soul Survivors' - 'It's Over My Head / Gotta Find A Way' ....2 blistering (Blue Eyed?) tunes with It's Over My Head just shading it, great dancer! £100 in Tim Brown's not mentioned in Manship's. Production credits a G.Soule, is this George Soule who's name i've seen pop up on soul tunes before? Anybody know anything about this group or the record?
  13. Absolutely brilliant tune....re the 'Why Do You Like Soul' thread......this is why!!!
  14. Deffo boot, i've got one too. Styrene with white label, black writing, very plain.
  15. I like other types of music too, especially Reggae/Ska. The Soul side of me is because i'm the kind of person who just loves the emotion in the songs. Another man's heartache alway's makes you know that you're not alone with your pain. We've all felt vunerable and been hurt by love at times in our lives, Soul captures these moments and records them onto vinyl.
  16. Tis' true! I know a guy who works for the Beeb, he's a bit of a greboe, and he samples Jr.Walker & all stars tracks (sax solo bits)for use on some of their programmes. However, I know some guys in the business (TV) are well into Northern & Ska. When you think that most of the producers are now our age group (30s/40s) it stands to reason really. 'Wife Swap' (last years anyway) was full of Northern, and that geezer 'The City Gardner' had a Northern background score. Look at the Ska in the ads too!
  17. I've had several, latest ones say.."You've sent me $50 in paypal, why?". Sent a couple to ebay, rest I scrapped.
  18. Be honest and upfront with him, tell him the mistake you made on the 'snipe'. At least this gives him a chance to offer it to the buyer before you (second chance offer).
  19. Previously unreleased!
  20. So, you're saying he never sent the record in 2005!
  21. We were all discussing your age at work today, could'nt believe you were 37...we thought there'd been a typing error!!!! Sorry Steve, I will explain to the lads tomorrow I promise ok. I thought it was ok, I quite like the Dolly Parton tune myself. I think the article mentioned those mainstream artists because those are the only ones 'the great unwashed' have heard of (from a UK perspective anyway). One guy at work is a massive Helen Shapiro fan and was amazed at her name being mentioned!
  22. Boots have 'The Beat' on the flip, originals have 'Little Young Lover'.
  23. Thats the one mate! And I did buy it. So am to presume both tracks are previously unissued?
  24. Popped into my local record store today, vedor had some new bits and pieces that never really interested me, then he spins this UK Goldmine demo of The Asassins - Nicer Girl (Philadelphia recording)...what a stormer and potential monster! The group sound like The Agents so could be a c/up. What I want to know is..., Is this a previously unreleased track? Has it been out on any Goldmine vinyl before? How come I aint ever heard it cos' IT IS THAT GOOD!!
  25. When can I order issue 4 Dave? is there a link to pay via paypal like last time? Cheers, John
