  1. The Motown thing was good, and one issue was almost dedicated to the genre with a great pic of Stevie Wonder (circa 1960's) on the front cover. I did e-mail them a great piece on the Kent Anniversary 100 club singles (with high quality scans) on the back of the fact that none, except one (carla Thomas) are in their latest RC Price Guide. Anyone see it in there? Thought not.... I've a feeling we're in for something good soon though, they do have some good stuff when they pull their fingers out of the prog rock pie and get down with some Soul. Here's hoping....
  2. Of the ones that actually sold , Northern Soul comes in at eigth place with Gene Toones!!!
  3. Yes George, Expidite, that's them. Great value @ £65, seen the same one's in John Lewis for over £200!! Then in Habitat for nearly £300!! Of course, Ikea all comes flat pack so no problem in getting it home.
  4. What puzzles me the most is that RC is a British publication about 'RECORD COLLECTING'.... Lynne's 'Stranger....' is her MOST collectable and most expensive 45!! And a Northern soul classic. Maybe the Aussies don't realise this, but a publication like RC definitely should! I thought RC had a guy working for them who was into Northern/soul....??? (mind you, if they do, he's been gone AWOL for months!) Northern Soul and its affiliates is surely one of, if not THE, most collectable and revered vinyl in the UK.....the records are what record collecting is all about, yet this publication seems to snub it! Don't get me wrong, when RC do a Northern /Soul piece they really do a great job (the Shrine article several years back and the Motown labels from donkey's years back, not forgetting the brilliant UK ska/reggae series they ran many moons ago). It's so obvious the publishing team are made up of Queen, Beatles, Elvis fans. If anyone is reading this who knows somebody working for RC...."More Soul Please!"
  5. The B/W boxes look great and hold loads of 45s, Ikea about £4 each, enough leveredge to store on top of each other.. The shelving for albums is made up of 16 cubes to store your l.ps and soul books, Ikea £65....bargain! Available in black or white. Half the size (and price) than the 16 cuber, turned on its side makes a great top for your decks! Just the right height too! Ikea!
  6. Also done by Thee Midniters (Whittier). Take that ridiculous avatar off!!
  7. Looking through 'Record Collector' in W H Smiths today, noticed a piece on Lynne Randell that say's she died 8th June by an addiction to slimming pills. Mentions her records in the write up but fails to mention 'Stranger In Your Arms'.....!!!! Unbelieveable! Surely that's the one she's most known for over here? Anyway, haven't bought a RC for ages....there's just no Soul in it anymore! It's been a long time since they've done anything worthwhile soul wise. Oh, guess what, Elvis is on the front cover and a nice big article on his top 50 collectables!!!! (again).
  8. Lets face it...Americans being Americans think the price guide is in Dollars anyway!!! Yippeee!
  9. Not much help to you but just thought I'd mention that the L.P cut is a different take than the 45. Great tune!
  10. Looking good! But what do I know, the only thing I can tell you is that my local record shop had a green boot and the label was bubbly (if you know what I mean).
  11. Otis Clay - Only Way Is Up ...also on one of those 'Soul Supply' l.ps from the late eighties/early nineties 'Modern Soul' double album. Good quality on this album. Ho hum..the 45 used to be £5 from Soul Bowl, wish i'd bought one...doh!
  12. [] Lee Garrett re-issue exactly same as the BW re-issue. Font and style, straight logo, orange label, great quality sound though! attachment=32415:Harthon_H_136_A_R.jpg
  13. Ahhh, the picture's become quite clear....that's why I never received it!!!
  14. This is one of the records 'grouprecords' conned me out of on evilbay!! Won it for $8....never received it! As I won it so cheaply, maybe it was a repro??
  15. I have the 'second issue' somewhere, not 100% sure if it's a boot or legal pressing. Came out the same time as the Bernard Williams on Harthon too, both same orange label and texture. 2 fantastic Philly sounds though!
  16. Get the Kent Anniversary one! £20 I just paid off Manship....bargain, unissued cut!
  17. The Kent 100 Club Anniversary 45 is an alternate cut.
  18. UK only 45 LP in the USA (same title as song)
  19. I'm not sure if this is the same group who recorded for RCA (Pied Piper productions). I recently purchased a disc on Gum by 'The Cavaliers' which hails from N.Mexico!....it's a doowop-to-soul crossover (maybe even regarded as an R&B dancer). Singer with this group is a Lloyd Nash. I know there was another group from the Carolinas I think, blue eyed outfit called the Cavaliers. Flip (which is the dancer) is 'I Wanna know'. To answer your question though, sorry I can't help you. I can't find anything about my disc neither!
  20. Think Benji is a Belgium guy / big collector....think I had tapes off him years back.
  21. I bought an acetate about 8 years back by Eddie Holland 'Outside Looking In' (his big one!) for £10, nothing on the flip, no label, center hole plus another hole next to it. Sold it to my local record shop for peanuts when I bought the 'original' USA Motown 45. What do you know...a couple of years later I see the same acetate (I know it was mine by the writing on the sleeve) in a box for £300!!!! Seller told me it was a genuine acetate because it had a second hole next to the center hole!!! I had to laugh, that's gotta be bollocks right? The sound was very low, surely this was a 'made for the Northern Soul market' bootleg? Someone say it was....
