  1. No accounting for taste .
  2. Couple of empty floor situations . Went to Twisted Wheel last year , due to the awful weather ,Snow etc , I was flying solo . Pete Roberts was on and played Barefootin' and I thought I haven't heard Let's Go Baby Where The Action Is for along time . He played it for me and it cleared the floor . he was very gracious about it . Also a local event Tallulah's in New Brighton . last friday of the month with Norman Killen and Jimmy Houghton is always busy . Yet when Jimmy plays Friday Night - Johnnie Taylor for me it clears the floor ?
  3. Spotlighting The Man - Bobby Bland The Soul Goes On - Jerry Butler Fire On Ice - Terry Callier With a lot o' Soul -Temptations Warm And Soulful - Garnet Mimms , and many others . That's why we love the music .
  4. Just come across this thread while looking for stuff on Record Corner Balham . Anyway if it still of interest Blacklers is now a Wetherspoons on Charlotte Street in the centre of Liverpool . A friend of mine Graham Jones , now deceased , acquired Going To a Happening , Contours Ep and What Is Soul Ben.E.King LP among others from Blacklers as his girlfriend worked a Saturday job there . Mention of second hand shops , there were a few in City Road by Goodison Park used to pop on on the way to the Everton game . My best day was Jnr Walker - Come See About Me, Dell-Vikings -Come Go With Me , Fred Hughes- OO Wee Baby I Love You for less than 50p . It was the late 60's !!
  5. Just been to an exhibition in Birkenhead's Williamson Gallery . It was about worse Album or CD covers . It was hilarious you wonder what they were thinking . No doubt the choices were often made without the artist's input . Overwhelmingly they had nothing to do with our music however there was a few featured . Irma Thomas's In Beteen Tears was , I have always thought it was odd . So has anyone got a 'Worst' Album/CD cover ?
  6. Interesting stuff . I have the All Platinum book on my wish list already but will definitely check out the Gwen John and Fatal Colours books .
  7. Reading two books at the moment which is not unusual --sometimes I will have three on the go . For over ten years I have read/re-read a Dickens classic , this year is Martin Chuzzlewhit . Though he liked to put in a hundred words were now ten would do - this critique of greed and selfishness could be written to-day . In contrast I am reading Memphis by Mike Hambrick which is a 'factional' story about a Dj uncovering the conspiracy to kill Martin Luther King .
  8. Tamla Motown -the stories behind the UK singles by Terry Wilson has a comprehensive list of TMG singles and other Motown releases in the UK .Don't agree with a lot of reviews but worth it for any Tamla -Motown fan .
  9. Second the Crazy Beat reccomendation . Gary is a proper fan and very knowlegable . Upminster RM14 2AH .
