  1. Brought three singles and one cd from the store. Pleased with the service and records, that has to be the quickest in the business. Thanks. Martyn
  2. Mark Got one of these if you still want it. Last time I had it out, condition was excellent. Is fifty okay? I’ll look for it later today. Martyn
  3. Joe Afyernoon. Have you still got the Popcorn Wylie, is so can you keep? Will send payment tonight. Martyn

  6. Mark i’m Interested in the Moonlighters, have you still got it? Martyn
  7. Posted the one above by accident. The Nankie publishing on the Celebrities label shot, also appears on one of the Four Hollidays record’s on the Markie label out of Chicago, although the Four Hollidays emanated from Detroit. Looking at the Tony Daniels on Sport, also appears as Gordon Berry and Motortown orchestra or whatever, is a take on Berry Gordy.
  8. Frank Brown the owner of Valtone, his son is Val. Valerie? Which is where we get the Val from. Also the label Be-Val, of Tony Daniels “I won’t cry”. There are a no of Boss labels. The one owned by Frank Brown of Valtone, is the one with the Celebrities on. The other Boss label was part of the Sport/ Sir-rah group of labels, and as far as I know no relation. But maybe they later brought the name off Frank. There was i’m sure another Boss label, again unrelated? Joey petite on?
  9. Some good in everything bad, far better record for me than The one alone. Quality over rarity i’m afraid. On the other FA release Joe Mathews is credited as lead vocalist. The Joe L blues record is part of the Frank Brown label setup.

  11. Hi Steve I’ve got a Jack Reynolds on a light green Mah’s, in decent nick. Are you still looking for Cody Black on Wheelsville? Got one of those two, best looking copy i’ve seen. Which is not very often. Martyn
  12. Just heard about this. Very sad news indeed. Known John for a while, he always seemed cheerful and pleased to see you. He was very well respected, and very well liked on the Soul scene. And i’m sure he will be missed by all who knew him. Memories of his wit and outlook on life. Thoughts are with his wife Barbara and family. R.I.P. JOHN
  13. Chris King supposed to have brought tons of blank Virtue studio discs on one of his visits to the studio, dollar a piece? Can’t remember the exact details now. And there were a lot of them too. Regarding the mainly orange issues of virtue things that came out mid 70’s, these were all legal in a deal involving John Anderson and Virtue studios to cater for the demand from the Uk Northern scene. Got this information from John Anderson himself, and also included the unissued instrumental like ’Puttin’ you on’, and ‘Detroit City soul’.
  14. Roger can you please keep the Esther Grant, Big Maybelle ep, and the Westbound abe record please? Will sort you out tonight Thanks Martyn
  15. Perthfox? Got one of these for sale at £120. Excellent condition, just a few minor storage marks on vinyl. No deep scratches or anything. Labels excellent too, just one very small x on topside. Full sheen, hardly played. Money back guarantee if you’re not happy. Martyn
  16. Mal got a couple of white demos on Chess, single-sided. So probably deliberate, and not mispress. Martyn
  17. Fred Got General Johnson on Surfside. Only played it at home on the odd occasion. As far as I know should be excellent condition, visually and audibly. I’ll let it go for £80. Will check it tomorrow if you’re interested. Money back guarantee if not happy. Yours Martyn
  18. Good and honourable gesture Yocky. Ignore the figures who are trying to ‘chip’ away. Always figures trying to do this, and prophet from people’s generosity.
  19. Driving home one night from a Soul night at Mansfield, put the radio on. Johnnie Walker radio 2, decent music and chat. Although it wasn’t all soul music it was listenable, he was having guests in like Ady Croasdall and other soul linked figures. On comes a track that had me interested. It was by Boz Skaggs and “King of El Paso”, and really appealed to me. He followed this up with a favourite Ray Charles “Unchain my heart”. Brilliant, they just flowed together. it was from an album called ‘Dig’ from 2001. Check it out.
  20. Went to Congleton recently, saw Tim A on the lineup was looking forward to his spot. I was not disappointed. An hour of top quality 60’s, with a small sprinkling of 70’s. Cheap, rare-expensive, Motown LP tracks, unissued tracks incl. Kent anniversary, underplayed and rare oldies. The full spectrum. It can be done, Tim did it. Some imagination and thought, not letting the ego of “Got to play this, or play that” because it’s expensive. F... the snobs, most of the crowd don’t give a monkey’s how much it’s worth. Including the people who go to the underplayed nights. They just wanna hear or dance to good music. Were not talking of the eradication of the rare stuff in favour of cheapies, because we all love it. But a proper balance. It can be done, anyone who says it can’t is reading from a script, not thinking outside of the norm. i.e don’t think what it is, think what it can be. Use your imagination. Not radical steps, it doesn’t need to be. Tim’s spot gave me a bit of a boost that night, a reaffirmation of what rare/ Northern soul can be. Not what it’s become, boring, stale, and predictable.
