  1. Why not start a new thread?? I'm sure everybody on here will be only too pleased to offer suggestions for names, but perhaps that's a very silly idea !!! hope all goes well, you'll have some allnighters of your own soon, changing nappies, 3:00 am feeds, oh the joy of parenthood
  2. Hi Pete, What excellent taste you and your dancing patrons have. I went to a "bit of do" on Friday night and danced to oldies for 4 hours. Thelma Lindsey - prepared to love you all the way jees i'd forgotten how fast that really was, knackered after. once again excellent set - carry on the good work at least everything you played could be classed as "northern" in the true sense of its origins don't you just hate all this modern crap and that real slow r&b stuff whoops - sorry - didn't really want to start one off byeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
  3. Hi y'all Hope someone can help Got a version of Sweetest Feelin Jackie Wilson and Erma Franklin. He sings the first line, she sings the second etc etc. Someone sent me an mp3, JW (I presume it's him, sounds like him..) sings the first TWO lines, female sings the next TWO lines. Is this also JW & EF Any help would be appreciated I could put clips up, but not 'till later in the day cheers Rob
  4. Hi Thought I'd add my penny's worth Just listened to all of those tracks, all but two of them for the first time. I'm 50 years old, into Northern since I was about 15 (Wheel Sounds, Torch, early Casino) All those tracks are REALLY GREAT S O U L tunes But not (IMHO) Northern Very danceable, but I would prefer something a tad faster, obviously the chemicals must be lot weaker than when I were a lad.
  5. Goldmine have a new CD entitled The Twisted Wheel Forever You can even pre-order it on their web site due out on the 10th (oh that's today) but they have yet to put the track listing up. Am I the only one who thinks this is a bit of a cheek Imagine going to a pub and asking what kind of bitter they sold only to get the reply "Sorry can't tell you, but its £11.99 and we are sure you will want it" Phph
  6. I'm 50 years old. Been into northern since I was 15 Too young for the Wheel The Torch, Up The Junction, Casino ('till the tourists arrived) & Mecca Soul clothing = circa 68-72 Ben Sherman, Jtex, Fred Perry (black) shirts, 2-tone parellels or Lee rider jeans (both with 1/2" turnup), Country Gentlemen Brouges (in black, leather soles) or tassled loafers (leather soles) white wrist sweat band + black glove (right hand only) Northern clothing = 72-75 ish Baggies (taylor made 'cos you had to be different) 6" waist band, 22" bottoms, multiple ticket pockets with closeover, tight as you could get them on your ass (without splitting them during "acrobatics") Hawaiian or Bowling shirt to start the evening, progressing to vest top (with badges, as the sweat started to pour, how else did you get rid of the "toxins") Shoes : there were these shoes that everybosy wore, round our way we called them "soul shoes", cross over patches of different coloured leather on the top, with leather soles, excellent for dancing. Now = Always shoes with leather soles ( You never know when you need to spin) Still like Hawaiian shirts, why do people take the piss ? Still like check (big) shirts, why do people take the piss ? Work shirts with button down collar (always) Trousers must have turnups (don't they ?) Wish I still had a scooter cheers Rob
  7. North Wales in the 70s Try out the following web site www.paynesreunion.co.uk Paynes Cafe Royal was a club on Mostyn Street in Llandudno. It was a jumping off point for many who would follow the paynes sessions with a trip to the wheel. The above website has some amazing photos from the early 70s, they hold a reunion every year, no big names as djs but had Edwin there a couple of times before he sadly passed on. If you do decide to pay a visit, please leave a message in the guest book !! cheers Rob Jones

  23. Yes, Brilliant place to go on a Sunday night to wind down the weekend after returning home from a weekend of dayers / nighters. Tiled dancefloor complete with windblown sand so you didn't need talc. Massive lady DJ who played mostly soul / northern. Only problem was th last train from Rhyl left too early, had to thumb it home to "the junction" many a Sunday night.
  24. Just in case your stuck indoors - lookin for something to do on those cold dark winter night https://eil.com/shop/moreinfo.asp?catalogid=298512
