Well in my opinion Craig Moron is a complete twat! I brought from him off his set sale list Malibus "Gee Baby" demo $55 When it arrived it was an issue and not the demo. His reply was yes it was an issue and had meant to change the listing before it was sold, would not budge on price and said he would refund but i had to pay the postage to return it. Some 4 months after it is still for sale on his list as a demo!! Greedy banker!!

I think, not for defo but think a seller can only cancel an item for sale if 1) it has NO bids on it. 2) there is still more than 24hrs to go, if under 24hrs i was under the impression that it could not be withdrawn from sale. After all this though ebay seem to have very confusing rules that do not seem to be the same for everyone.

Off topic Kev but just a suggestion, R:E: next kings hall. Any chance you could do something about the early morning daylight getting inside the venue, bin bags over the windows seemed to work fine many years ago at many venues.........believe me mate it knackers the event anytime past 04.00am..........please!!

I got the answer!! Lets try something really drastic and put on the flyers "NORTHERN SOUL ALLNIGHTER" you never know it may well catch on;)
-
I got the answer nighters finish at 3am play only known and accepted records by the masses make sure they are local to everyone give peeps desperate to dj a chance even if you dont know what they play ban all soul nights and lets all give up or just carry on with what to me is a fooking great ngiht/Nighter scene as it is Hope you are all taking note on this, this is how to reply to someone without slagging them off and at the same time making light of the issue.........spot on mate!! Really looking forward to having a chit chat with you at Rugby.........and eh!! KT fooking F!!

Mace, i dont know you but i am thinking you run Bidds and are thinking that i am directly having a go at your style of event and if thats the case then your wrong, what i am sayin is i say it as i see it, and it is not aggressive as you put it and i dont deserve to get negative aggressive replys in response such as yours. How dare you say to me that you think its best i stick to venues that play the music i like, sorry but i thought i was going to northern soul nighters. You dont seem to respect anybody elses view unless it fits in with your "progressive across the board music" policy.........will someone please explain this term to me as i have no idea what it means.

So you love the sounds that have packed the floors from all our great clubs such as The Wheel,The Torch,Wigan,Yate,The Mecca & Stafford (not quite sure were your cut off point is for when the shit started)...............emmm I have one slight problem with your view & it is they were all clubs that played & broke new sounds. So if you had applied your rules in the past you wouldn't have any oldies to do your packed nighters with? So if any new Stafford type 60t's are unearthed you'll have them to add to the oldies scene...........why what's wrong with the 60t's type tunes from Wigan or The Mecca. Your point is very valid and yes bitd most if not all venues broke "new" tunes which today would now be classed as oldies, there in lies my point really. To be able to do the above then a tune has to be good enough to the masses to begin with and i just dont here that with todays new unknowns being spun. Its not a case of in time it will grow on you like all new stuff generally needs a few listens before your ears get to like a tune.......it is never gonna happen with most (not all) of the plays. Maybe we have reached the bottom of the barrel as far as class good old fashioned 60's northern dancers are concerned, yes we can always change the goal posts to include in the barrel gritty R n B or whatever you like really but you cannot tell me with a serious face that most of the new stuff today is what we would normally call northern soul as it aint. But what is really sad about all of this debate is that me and others are soooo pissed off at getting slagged and slated for just wanting to hear what is after all northern soul, nothing else just northern. We are relentlessly being told to move on, give the tunes a chance, stop living in the past, well what do you think i/we have been doing, we have had no choice but to listen and give them a chance, but if it aint gonna do it for us now it never will. Narrow minded? yes i am as far as my music is concerned, i dont want to "move on and progress" i was/am happy with the way it used to be. i.e going to any venue over a weekend with a rammed attendance knowing your gonna listen to class music, not leaving until the end, and not leaving with a sense of thinking WTF was that all about. Now if i am wrong and todays scene is all about going to venues knowing that there will be only a couple of hundred there at best, and that your only going to listen to a smattering of northern and then it will be because its deemed to be one of a few known originals and guess what i have it and you dont then to be quite honest you can shove it!! i will stick to my "nostalgia" nighters as one put it on here once. Its just so maddening that you cant or wont accept that the very reason we are having this very thread is not because of music policy really its because people are trying to get to understand why venues are failing and numbers are falling.......well there is your answer, get the music played back to mainly "oldies" and you will have your numbers back along with proper nighters. But hey, its all just my honest opinion, an opinion that i know will get slagged and slated, and to say i am not bothered would be a lie, of coarse i am bothered, been going 30 yrs and in all that time i dont think i have upset many if anybody and me thinks this will change the view in which people see me, then so be it.
-
Oh god this is so tempting to just join in this debate and once and for all say it like it really is and no not just in mho but most peoples opinion, just that most would sooner not upset the status quo whereas others (myself included) are so sick and tired and fooked off at being told that we should progress and actually listen to the new stuff........well we/i have and its shit!! Thats why attendances are down at most nighters apart from your oldies nighters when they are rammed, people dont want to go to nighters and sit through half the night maybe all the night of unknowns, give me a nighter of tunes that i know and been played for 30yrs rather than a nighter of knew/semi knowns that will prob. never end up any further than the dj's box it came from. Oldies rule!! 6t's newies aka stafford style.....spot on!! This "New stuff" being passed off as northern soul around alot of the venues on todays scene.....leave it with you. It would not have been accepted bitd (15yrs ago+) so why the fook is it being played out all over the place today i will never know!!

good idea...like it and done it, BUT, you ask if we think there is a prob with the scene and the very next Q you have second guessed that we all think the prob is either too many or too few venues, that imho is not the prob with the scene, you can never have enough choice, although there are far far too many soul nights and not enough nighters.

Ike And Tina Dust My Broom, 4 Different Releases: Relative Rarity?
Dazdakin replied to Weingarden's topic in Look At Your Box
The all Orange Tangerine is the original press with the tangerine logo going in an arc over the top of the label. The orange and black with tangerine running top to bottom on left side is a later release. So i guess the White demo of the first press would be best. -
It certainly is a tune!! Rare as hens teeth as well on British..........but there in lies your problem me thinks. Most british has gone up in value but nothing like imports......£200 i think you might struggle but i could be wrong!!!

Right from the off I want a full Nighter, I am not going to travel for one of those "Mini Allnighters" and I want the do to finish as near to 0800hrs as possible, I draw the line at 0600hrs but I don't like it. Absolutely spot on here!! Definition of an allnighter as was and should still be!! Start time no earlier than 11:30pm and finish at 08:00 no earlier or later. I too dislike these extended soul nights or mini nighters as they have become known. As a scene we have always been different from any other social music event, its what set / sets us apart from all the other dross thats about. Your 02:00 finish is reserved for the Shaz and Kaz types. I maybe as we all are getting older but i have no wanting to be tucked up in bed at a sensible time to enable me to be up bright and early to see what the new day brings............fuck that!! Middle aged has made me feel no older in myself and i still act as though i am in my twenties. And if i could add one more wish on the wish list it would be that in the summer months with daytime coming at around 03:45 i can remember when promoters got this and used to black out any daylight coming into the nighter and killing the whole concept really by placing black bin liners or anything to hand over the said windows in order to stop this from happening...ie: The Fleet/Parr Hall/Leisure Center/Clifton Hall they all did it. Bring it back!!............please!

Why Do People Buy A Record When Its In Demand?
Dazdakin replied to vince ayres's topic in All About the SOUL
Many yrs ago i used to work for Aly Mayer (Leicester Oddfellows promotor) on his Leicester market stall, the deal was £10 a day or have a root through the hundreds of records below the shelves and take your pick. One day was doing such a thing and came across 2 copies each of Wade Flemmons "Jenette" and Donna Coleman "Loves To Strong" all in mint nick, at the time they was mostly not known but i loved em!! Tried to get my circle of friends at that time to buy the other copies off of me, (they have to remain nameless to save red faces) they all to a man looked at me with horror when i said these need to be played. How times have changed eh?? What they worth today?? bout £300 each?? i wanted £5.00 each!! -
I aint getting no takers here. Can anybody tell me which artists have gone into a record studio to record a "northern soul " record??? NONE!! Thats the difference people, as regards northern v r n b. People who record r n b set out to record r n b whereas northern just happens because its a beat within the music and if it aint got that certain beat then it aint northern, thats also why alot of r n b has crossed over to become northern classics because it just so happened it had that beat to it, and that r n b is fine and dandy because it has the beat, but r n b that can only ever be r n b because it is r n b is most defo not fine and dandy. I dont give a fiddlers if i get called a dinosaur and living in days gone by, its what i like, no love, that is northern soul. Yes i am very narrow minded when it comes to music, i only like northern, nothing else, simple, so when the scene that i know and love starts to change in the way that it has done over the last few years then yes it bothers me in a big way, and yes will fight my corner and tell it how i see it in whatever way it takes.

This might explain Northern Soul as i see it.........and of coarse it THE ONLY way it can be seen...... Ok first of all i have gotten myself into quite a little bit of trouble for airing MY views on what should should not be played at nighters and my general view on R n B. In another thread i dared to use the expression "real deal R n B" this was used to split the difference between known R n B artists and tracks that have been excepted as "northern Soul" E.G. Micky Champion/ Jimmy Robins/ A.C.Read/ etc... there are hundreds that are known as northern soul but sung by R n B artists. The fact is that all the R n B stuff that has crossed over and is known as mainstream northern soul has that one thing in common with all northern soul and thats the beat behind the music. This is where it all gets a little confusing trying to explain to anybody, let alone somebody on the scene what northern soul is. This is my take on what it is, what seperates it from anything else. Nobody out in this world has ever set out ( four Vandels apart) to go into a studio and make a northern soul record. Every!! other music genre has its market and plays to it. Rock N Roll/ R n B/ Country Western/ Reggie/ Blues/ Funk/Punk/Pop/Rock/ Progressive Rock/ House/Garage/Folk/ and every other style of music has its known recording artists that specifically set out to produce the sound that fits the bill, But not northern soul. Northern Soul is pure and simply put just a beat behind the music, a tempo thats so hard to explain but so easy for those that are into it to recognise straight away. This is why there are so many non soul/black singers not known for their soulfull voices to be blasting from the speakers of OUR venues. Paul Anker/Dean Parrish/Vickie Baines/Dana Vallery/The Embers!!/Charlie Fucking Gracie FFs!! the list is literally endless that without them at a rough guess 1/5th of all "northern soul" tracks are sung by white artists, none of who would believe you if you told them where exactly that perticular record they made was being played, and none of who set out to make anything other than just a record. This is the reason why I got into this music so long ago, if i wanted to go to nighters and hear R n B then i would have become a MOD instead as someone put earlier in a post i became a "SOULIE" not an "R n Bie".
