Ones i can remember in order Morcombe 2nd/3rd aniv nights where without doubt to me just awesome 3000+ Clifton Hall 1st aniv Oddfellows 2nd aniv Any Parr Hall went to all of them and never had a bad one. Ones i cant remember but have been told they was good EOAE ffs!! Too young and way to blocked to even remember anything. Keele First aniv........wankered on all sorts. As for todays scene dont really think any of them will last in my memory as the previous ones mentioned but Kings Hall comes close and so do Sat nights at Blackpool Tower Weekender......What a nighter this would have made bitd me thinks.

Jesus! might be my biggest response to a topic i never started. OK lets sort a few things out......Its rare.....its dog rare on a west coast stocker, as for it being the only known one........little bit of sellers licence going on i agree....but it seems to have worked. Yes i got it from fingers and i promised i would never sell.......but things have gone a little tits up and needs must. I have emailed fingers telling him this and whatever it makes over 400 he gets 50% as i dont feel good about selling a disc i have wanted all my collecting life and then getting it for peanuts and looking like i am makin a fast earner, which i am not as i would sooner be able to keep it......there you go....life aint fare sometimes. But please feel free to keep on chatting about it as its all free advertising. Thanks.

Most know my views on why we are were we are and the remedies for it but politics aside and personal views aside ( although what i am about to say does come from my own personal view) IF and i really do mean IF it was purely down to the maths, ie; numbers through the doors = success. And in general you will only ever get this if you stay well clear of sticking "rare underplayed night" or words to that affect on your flyers..........then promoters need to wake up give us who attend your nighters what we in the main want....top 500 or variations of this. The numbers who go to these events are on the up bar none, whereas the numbers that attend the rarer soul nights/nighters are on the way down from a starting position that was only ever mid table at best apart from LifeLine, which in my opinion is a quality nighter. Its all well and good wanting to hear new tunes and still finding the passion as we all did when Stafford was in its prime but you cannot force on people what people dont want. Now i know that most that will be reading this are going to say well i for one want to hear new stuff and am sick and tired of the top 500.......cool........but you really are in the minority...the numbers prove it.

Back in the 80's around 84' i think myself and a few others (Tommo, Steve Phylis,Kev Draper to name a few ) set off from Leicester to Glenrothes in Scotland where Alan Walls was resident at the time and had guested a number of times at Leicester Oddfellows Nighter and he suggested we made the trip up over the border.......we did and it was brill!!

Hmmm....... cant ever remember there ever being an empty dance floor at the Oddfellows, and the DJ (This term is only used to describe in this instance a man that played the said tune) was Tony Clayton, he had every record of any note in those boxes yet he did not even know it. The collection was not collected by himself it was the late Nev Wearys entire collection but have no idea how TC managed to obtain it.

Cant really not agree with anything said although i am a little confused over one point running through this thread. If the point of running a new venue as a nighter is to play something different from the rest otherwise it is sure to fail, how different and in what way? Surly northern/R&B is what it is. Me , personally love the top 500 week in week out but having said that am coming around to the "new" stuff and have to admit that alot of it is quality and needs to be heard at the bigger venues. My point being these days its imho the venue and the SIZE of the crowd that attend that makes a nighter. Top 500 with a good venue but with nobody in is pants top 500 at kings hall....you get my point, its the same for rarer stuff or r&b played at venues only with a hand full of souls in, same music policy in a rammed venue will always be the one that is remembered. Just a thought.

Would it be reasonable to assume lets say that we only know of issues for any record dont matter what, that there would be demo's of that record floating around. I can get my head around it being the other way around - only demo's known, then there would be a good chance of only demo's ever being cut, but to my way of thinking if there are issues then there has to be demo's. Example; Eddie Parkers " I'm Gone" AWAKE white demo?? Obviously not all labels did "white" demo's they just printed "not for sale" or "plug side".......but most did. Just as a side issue, i dont know of any Motown tunes that only reached a demo cut and was never released, they tended to just bin em' before they did anything........has to be a Frank Wilson issue or two knocking about??

There is a Motown and Northern Soul night tonight at the Leicester Oddfellows Club!! as in the Leicester nighters way back when, and in the main hall ffs!! Point being, not advertised on here!!

Me thinks the point should be why there is ONLY 3 NIGHTERS on. To my way of thinking Northern Soul/ The Scene/ and whatever style or type of northern your into be it oldies/ rarer/ modern/ R&B it is and always has been and always should be best served up in 8hr slabs of time during the hrs of darkness..........did i forget to mention industrial amounts of chemicals ........cant remember.....must be the drugs!!

Mello Souls - what a tune!! It was sold recently, stayed within our shore line and i now believe it to be the 2nd highest paid for a northern tune £14000!! All of this info was i must admit learnt outside kings hall on sat eve sun morning and there was a few slight variations on who when where but what did stay a constant was how much......once again as if you say it quick it dont sound that much......£14000!!
