  1. Allnighters - Soul nights? Allnighters...but do like Brighouse as a soul night. Live acts - Dance comps? Don't mind either as long they're a decent act for example (Lorraine Silver at Stoke last year (don't think so)) Dance Comps---Friday at Cleggy.. Footie Soul every time... Oldies Newies Like both. Scooters - Cars? Scooters every time. Talc - Polished floor? Polished floor..talc gets all over the place. Night out at cinema with missus/fella - Night of cheap bootlegs? Bootlegs at least its music and it's whats in the groove that counts Lager - Bitter Vodka - Red Bull to start, copious amounts of water to finish. Stompers - Soulful mid-tempo? Stompers

  3. How about Sammy Ambrose "This Diamond Ring" Who wants to buy this diamond ring, she took it of her finger now it doesn't mean a thing, this diamond ring doesn't shine for me anymore. This diamond ring doesn't mean what it meant before. And Sam Fletcher "I'd Think It Over Twice. I'd think it over twice, I'd take some good advice, if I were you girl. you say you love him but tell me are you really sure. And Millie Jackson "House For Sale" The bedroom is right this way with unlimited closet space.... AND.... Located at 1679 Gidwell Avenue, Theres just something about "House For Sale" Peter

  5. Dave Rimmer had the best idea at the Febuary CIS allnighter, he stopped the music and asked everyone with a drink in their hand to kindly leave the dance floor. It worked!!!!
  6. Went to Brighouse Ritz and Bury Town hall last Friday (Bury for the last 90 mins or so). Both excellent venues, the difference is, Brighouse has banned the use of Talc on the dance floor, they search holdalls going in and confiscate any talc found. The management say it ruins the dance floor. The dance floor at Bury was a sea of white powder (Talc of course) making it more like a skating rink than dance floor. The Longfield Suite also does it's best to stop people using Talc. If people find it hard to dance on a polished wooden floor, perhaps investing in a pair of decent shoes would help.

  11. Re Sid and Bernadettes post about the Monaco, afriend of mine phoned me at 6.15 just as I got home from work, "Pete, get changed and get down to mine as we are going to a Soul night at the Monaco it's being filmed for the Johnny vaughn show, and bring some records" So a very quick change, flew down to Als jumped in his car and arrived at the Monaco at 8.10, and yes there was a guy up a ladder with a glitter ball and about 8 soulies stood around, the room was indeed packed. On closer inspection it was definetly a Line Dancing Night, the "filming" ended at 8.15. That was it....no soul night...lots of crossed wires...and then the speakers burst into life with T rex and Jitterbug boogie yehaaaaaaaa slap my thigh...time for a sharp exit :-) we were back in the house for 9.30.

  13. 9 Oclock Monday morning sat in the office, hhmmm what a downer. Unfortunatly I did not get to Prestatyn until 3pm Saturday afternoon and had to leave for Manchester Sunday dinner, BUT from that Saturday afternoon until 6 Oclock Sunday morning what a night!!!. Had a wander round all the rooms Saturday afternoon, spent a few hours in the "Soul In The Sun" room, went to the main room at 7.30 only to be told "come back at 8.30" so we did. As the gate went up it was a mad rush to get a table, the acts were fantastic, the finale must have left everyone with a lump in their throat, to see them all lined up singing It'll never be over for me. But then the music seemd to go down hill, up and down, we kept saying it might pick up, anyway after a few hours we made our way into the back room where Dave Evison, Brian Rae and company were playing plenty of forgotten oldies, danced my self silly, and left a 6 Oclock, emotionally and physically drained. 15 hours of constant soul. Hi to everybody i met sorry I was talking bollocks towards the end of the night. See you all next year hopefuly for the full weekend!!!!!! Peter.
  14. ahhh The Carousel, thats it. Don't remember the floor being split at a later date though. Yes the Willows in 70's was quite a good venue, that had sunken dance floor. It's still going today though I haven't been since the 70's. Peter.
  15. hi Grant I don't remember the H.E.S.C at Belle Vue, but do recall the ones at the Ritz run by Neil Rushton and Co(I still have a embroidered patch never been sew on). Living the other side of Manchester to you, Salford/Swinton, Manchester was nearer, I do recall going to a couple of alldayers at a big Irish club on Plymouth Grove with a huge dance floor, I can't remember the name though (does anbody else?). Then about the same time period, The Inner City Soul Club (same company that had a record label in the 70's) started doing alldayers at Romanoffs on Oxford road formerly Rotters. As an aside does anybody remember The John Bull in Spring Gardens (Manchester) and John Grant (Whatever happend to him)? Catching the coach to Leeds Central or going to Wigan when The John Bull Closed. Peter PS I do remember going to BelleVue though to see the Zoo and fairground.
