I remember we all used to meet up in Paddys Goose behind Chorlton Street bus station about noon, (some people to remember, Douglas, Wayne and Jackie, Willy hunt, Natty Neil, Hilary Mee, Sue, Al Jackson and many more) then wander down to the Ritz for 2 O'clock, then after a while a club called Smartys (down the steps next to Spinn Inn) opened on a Sunday night and we would go there for a few hours after the Ritz. At the height of the Alldayers I think they ran fortnightly. I still have a metal badge saying "John Grant The God Of Funk" . He did live Rochdale way and remember him having a big birthday bash one summer in his garden. Found them.....the Four Brothers badge has a mirror in the back.!!
  10. Mate, play this for the Suveners Mrs Mills "Lovers Concerto"
  11. Mischief, I wouldn't take it to heart, I've know you for some time now and you always play a good set. I could not make the IOW this year , BUT when I do go to a scooter rally I now go with a different frame of mind than I do to a nighter, most of the rally going scooterists are quite happy to listen to for example Billy Ocean Red Light Spells Danger and the like, and only know the more "commercial" sounds like you mention. Peter.

A few pennyworth from me, I cut my teeth at the Casino and The Mecca, Manchester Ritz and enjoyed/enjoy sounds from each venue. Some of my favourtie "Disco" tracks are (but I would not define them as Disco, just good dance records but would define something like Evelyn Thomas's HIgh Energy as DIsco). El Coco Cocomotion. Wilbert Longmire Black Is The Colour. Charles Earland Let the Music Play and Over And Over. CJ & Co Devils Gun. Fat Larrys Band Center City. Jones Girls NIghts Over Egypt Kaygees Kilowatt Brainstorm Lovin Is Really My Game Pete

HI Mischief Managed to scan a copy of mine, it is a dark blue, with the marks 65-1037 A, "VOCAL", A 59636 (Though the A is more like a triangle.) Same on the B side thought it has "INSTRUMENTAL" instead of "VOCAL" Peter

I've been reading this thread with interest, first time I saw Carts and my first introduction to northern soul was at Sedgley Park rugby club, (Les Barry used to dj there on a Saturday night) I can remember Carts and Molly dancing to the Natural 4 "The Devil Made Me Do It". I was told Carts was at the Longfield Suite Soul night a couple of months back. Even though I am from Swinton I had a lot of friends in the Prestwich, Carr Clough area, Paul Hitchen, Neil Firth (see them both at Longfield from time to time) Willy Hunt (now has a shop on Saville Row) Alan Tonge, Baz Swift, Paul Williams.
