Sound Quality Of 1970S British Re-Issues
francis t replied to Ljblanken's topic in All About the SOUL
Saying do not buy British is not really the answer. It is bit like eating a bad apple and never eating fruit again! There are some good releases on London/Decca/ Brunswick which should sound fine.Likewise all the Capitol/Motown/Stateside/EMI labels.Stuff on President/Joe Boy might vary depending on the original tape source...but in some cases you will not get the tracks on 45 elsewhere.Avoid bootlegs if sound quality is paramount.Buying John Manships Bootleg guide might help with identifying the better releases sound wise. Northern soul 45s and sound quality has always been a problem, particularly on the higher fi.Buy an old seventies system-play those British 45s on full volume and get dancing!!! regards francis t REALSIDE RECORDS HOME OF GREAT SOUNDING VINYL! -
Thanks Rob and everybody. Sat here with my Manifesto mag, Soul OOP North and Its the Beat just sent up from the shop so I have plenty to read.Just thinking I should be playing "I don,t know which foot to dance on"...but given the state of my leg..maybe not. Got to keep smiling!" cheers francis

Back in 2005 RealSide Records scored in one of Beach Charts with several artists.Jacqui Williams, Leonie Parker and ex Drifter Roy Hemmings all got regular plays.the BIG track was Hold on to the Blues by Lonne Givens. Heres the story... Looking for a new track for RealSide to release I heard Rob Hurcombe play the tune at a soul night in Worcester. It sounded great and and via the writer Walter Thomas we contacted Lonne and licensed it for release.A promo cdr was sent to Kev Roberts who played it on his radio show which was also broadcast in the Carolinas. A deejay in the Carolinas lifted the track and started playing it and then it just exploded on the Beach Scene. It spent over 75 weeks in the Beach Charts mostly at Number One or in the top 5 and iiiwas voted the Number One Beach Record for the year 2005. How i s that for selling coals to Newcasltle or in this case selling Soul to Mytle Beach? Chicago based Lonne is now an established artist on the Beach Scene having recently scored another no 1 hit with Hey Mr Deejay (on another label) .Writer Walter Thomas' version was released on a very limited promo on RealSide and also got plays. Our recent Angel Rissoff release was also very popular on the Beach Scene and our next release will be a Beach number one from Rhonda McDaniel.More info on that one soon. All abit strange as there is no beach in Kidderminster, although the Glades does have a wave machine. check out some of the RealSide Beach Hits! at www.realsiderecords.co.uk regards francis t realsiderecords

I want to thank everybody who has shown concern following my recent argument with a moving car, which the car won.At least I lived to tell the tale! The many messages, cards, enquiries and visits whilst I was in Worcester Hospital cheered the spirits. My relatives were very impressed by the caring nature of the soul scene. Whilst I am "laid up" with a few broken bones! my shop is still open most days manned by the ever cheery Big Tel (01562 515291) and Glenn is dealing with RealSide matters (www.realsiderecords.co.uk) I can be contacted via the shop. Once again thanks everybody.Save my selling tables.I'LL BE BACK cheers francis Mister Tee

Gloria Shannon Available On Limited Edition Cd
francis t replied to francis t's topic in All About the SOUL
Just noticed the question. Gloria Shannon is the name attributed to an unknown singer responsible for I believe one of the classic soul discoveries in recent years. The track was first introduced about 5 years ago via several deejays who we (Realside Records) sold copies to. We finally got clearance from the tape owner to release the track last year and the rest is soul history. We have nearly sold out of the 45s, but have a few left. This limited promo cd is the first "official " cd release. We will ship to Japan.Just send me an e mail to francis@real;siderecords.co.uk or terry@mrteerecords.co.uk and we will sort something out. regards francis t -
Gloria Shannon Available On Limited Edition Cd
francis t replied to francis t's topic in All About the SOUL
Here is a bit more info about the tracks. 1 silly love games-the first RealSide 45 and one that sold out on 45 a long time ago.A modern style dancer. 2Favour(do this world a favour) -Recorded especially for RealSide brilliant singer Jacqui Williams gives the Beris Hammond track a new feel.A proven dance floor hit and a chart entry in the US Beach Charts. 3. Hold on to the blues-Lonne Givens. A number one on the US Beach Chart after being discovered by RealSide on an obscure US cd and played by Kev Roberts on his syndicated radio show in the Carolinas. We sold out of the 45 a while back, but have just found a box of 15 misfiled, so get in touch as soon as possible. The track stayed in the Beach charts for over 80 weeks establishing Lonne as a major performer in that area.Has since topped the Beach Charts again with a new recording for a US label. 4.Can't leave you alone-Tu Tu Jones.Related we believe to Johnny Jones this a southern soul dancer with the Memphis Horns adding quality backing.Slow seller at the start but has gained in reputation amongst collectors of quality 45s. 5.You got it -Roy Hemmings.Quality modern crossover from the long time Drifters singer.Catch him live if you can. 6.Believe(The whole damned world is growing crazy)-Another revisit from Jacqui with a great dancefloor feel. 7.All the people all the time-one for Leonie (Parker) fans. Not yet released on single. 8.Break out the tears -Angel .From his US cd.You probably all know it by now! 9.Walter Thomas-I wanna get witcha' Walter wrote Hold on to the Blues and this modern style dancer he can write other great songs.Only 150 promo 45s pressed and now hard to find. Will probably become the rarest RealSide 10.Jacqui Williams- Real Love .Sort of dismissed at the time of release on 45 as just a copy of Driza.the critics rapidly changed their minds when they realised the legendary US studio guru TOM MOULTON had worked on the project.Further proof of his and Jacquis talent. 11.Tears are gifts from heaven -Gloria Shannon.Even has 2 You tube videos-very nice( but it would have been nicer if the creative people behind the clips gave our web site www.realsiderecords.co.uk as a link to buy. What a track 12.Falling- Rhonda Mc Daniel. Dina Carroll recorded this a few years back and Rhonda has scored a big hit with this in the Carolinas. This will be our next 45 backed with track 15 which demonstrates on an a lesser known 4 tops track her ability to sing crossover soul. 13.If loving you is all I have to do-Roy Hemmings and Anna Brooks.Roy is joined on this track by his band leader on a smooth update of a track he had previously recorded on one of his now collectable solo cds.A possible future single release for this jazzy flavoured production. 14.So Long-Walter thomas.Another soul side from Walter. One of the three notable productions on his US cd. 15.See track 12 -
Great link! The TNJs record John is auctioning for me is the record before it! Gloria Shannon Available On Limited Edition Cd
francis t replied to francis t's topic in All About the SOUL
I am getting some good feedback on this limited release including from abroad.Glenn and myself have great fun with the label and it is good when we get a positive feedback on our efforts.Sometimes we find our releases are not hip enough for the modern room deejays and too modern for the oldies fans. We know that both perceptions are off the mark and this is proved by the collectors who are following the labels output and buying every release. We hope this promo cd will give deejays and collectors a chance to find out a bit more about RealSide. cheers francis T RealSide terry@mrteerecords.co.uk -
I spoke to Rick Cooper yesterday who confirms he did deejay at Pendelum for a short while .Apparently Richard Searling left and Rick Cooper was asked to step in.Richards leaving was short lived and the pendelum swung against Rick Cooper who had to go.I am sure he did other odd nights, and Rick confirms he did deejay at various other venues in Manchester and Stockport. Rick certainly knew his stuff and is still to be seen at northern venues round Manchester. Personally I have good memories of the Pendulum nights and the sounds played.I can not hear a Bobby Bland record without being reminded of the Manchester scene.Living in the Midlands it is not uncommon for me to told a Pendulum record was a Stafford discovery.I just agree as good music is good whereever it is played. regards francis t (mr tee/RealSide Records)

I have a brick from the Torch and one from Trentham Gardens (the Brick that heard the Dells sing!!!).I could do with some of that Mecca cement dust to stick them together! cheers francis ps could not get a piece of the dancefloor from the Highland Room.I would have bought one- but thought it was a scam or something.Would have looked great next to my brick collection in my record room.I know I am mad, but don,t tell anyone.I was right fed up when they finally demolished the Mecca.I mentioned the fact to a few of my soul customers, they thought I was mad aswell and could not see the importance of the event.Just muttered about Ian Levine and Wigan... francis

Just thought forum members might like to know we have pressed some issue copies of our great Gloria Shannon release (Not just my opinion -See the reviews). We have them at www.realsiderecords.co.uk and other dealers have received copies.I notice the demo label copies are already changing hands at a premium, but the issues look great. Big thanks to everybody who has supported this release. cheers francis t realside records ps All the demos of Walter Thomas -Hold on to the Blues have sold out.We will press issues if demand builds up.Hear it on the Download Section of our web site.

Thanks to everybody who has ordered a copy of the single or downloaded the track. We have had quite a few downloads- but I suspected all the time real soulies wanted the vinyl.Sales have proved this correct and -no sales pitch-it is our fastest seller to date.We anticipate our stocks of the white demo label issues will be sold soon. Leonies Silly Love Games was our first release on 45 and like Lonnie Givens is fairly hard to find, but I may have a copy in the files I can sell.Leonie is really underrated, particularly outside the North West where she lives. She gave 2 great live performances at Fleetwood Togetherness and Lea Hall , the latter performance is on download. We have plans for a cd to include Leonie later in the year, but in the meantime I can be contacted on 01562 745446 or at francis@realsiderecords.co.uk

Must mention this another 2 sider for our label as the joint "A" side is the original recording of Hold onto the Blues written by Walter Thomas and the number one Beach Record in the Carolinas for 2005.That version by Lonnie Givens was , of course, discovered and released by RealSide on a now fairly hard to get 45.Walters version is a little faster to my ears a more "modern" feel. Available to purchase or download/hear as per previous posting francis t

As has been said a 45 would be a good idea.Certainly the interest in the downloads has surprised us and we are pleased that real collectors are prepared to pay for something special. If we do a single it will certainly be a limited run and one for the long term collection. I will keep everybody informed, anybody interested in a 45 version might want to let me know at francis@realsiderecords.co .uk Also I want to mention we have a myspace for RealSide under the name soulontherealside with all the my space //etc associated with myspace before it.(I will post the full name soon, I just forgot it!) Please support our downloads-we are paying all the necessary royalties etc- and please do not nick any tracks for anniversary free cds. Cheers francis t realside

Big thanks to everybody who is supporting RealSide with this release. It is selling at a rate much faster than we expected, including sending copies to the US. The white vinyl demo label copies are limited, so I suggest you pick a copy up from your supplier of choice. We are looking at other projects with Angel who is delighted to get his music out in the UK.If you want to see what he looks like there is a good You Tube clip of him singing his Beach hit version of the Temptations I want a I can see.You might be surprised what he looks like. If anybody wants any of the older RealSide titles I will have a some at Yarmouth. regards francis t realside records

Hello Francis here from RealSide. It is great to see the interest ion what I think is one of our best releases. We have had a deal on this for over a year now, but were not sure if the time was right. When Angel agreed to let us add Soothe You to the deal we knew we had to get the single out a soon as possible. The initial pressing is in demo form on white vinyl and will be followed subject to demand with black vinyl issues.Angel Rissoff is a great all round live performer as well as producer/recording artists. As well as his soul style stuff he can sing doowop and rock and roll related styles (some of which can be seen on You Tube) We are currently considering an album of his soul related stuff and he has said he is up for a visit if there are any promoters.White, red, blue eyed whatever he looks like he sure can sing soul. A bit of an update on RealSide activities, as we have been a bit off the map for a few months. We still have stock of most of the releases the exceptions being Silly love Games by Leonie and Hold on to the Blues by Lonnie Givens. Our web site has disappeared somewhere down the internet wires, but we do now have a myspace at https://www.myspace.com/soulontherealside where you can read a bit more about us. me I am at francis@realsiderecords.co.uk for e mails Enjoy Angel!!
