Mister Tees Rock Stop , Record Shop In Kidderminster
francis t replied to Sheldonsoul's topic in All About the SOUL
Thanks for the interesting comments.Still got the shop.Never stopped selling northern soul since the days of taking a box to the Torch and then to the Mecca etc.I have soul for sale at the shop all the time.Surprised somebody said there was,t much soul, but as has been said just ask and boxes of soul will appear.I know the shop is a bit "confusing" -to say the least- but I am happy to try and help.I have regular reggae customers as well. Also I still have loads of interesting badges, patches books and other soul and mod stuff and still make button badges for events and venues as I have since the days of making badges for Russ at Wigan, The Ritz, Notts Palais etc. The shop is open 9-5 Monday To Saturday.Might be worth ringing to check if I am in and have my sales rarities boxes at the shop.I have rarities boxes, reissue boxes (good deals on OuttaSight etc) and loads of other soul vinyl and cds.inc LPs,Funk , Reggae and allsorts. Come to the shop PLEASE and check us out and remember to ask. There is free and cheap parking very close by and we might run to a cup of coffee. And then there is our range of costume accessories and inflatable northern soul dancers.Thats another story. cheers francis t mister tees records (01562 515291) 65 blackwell street kidderminster dy10 2EL -

They are certainly aware of Tims book and of the forthcoming" Keeps on Burning Documentary dvd Film" due out in June. No doubt they will be referred to. regards francis t

Very sad news. My thoughts are with his family and close friends. If there is a "Soul Heaven" I am sure he is up there now searching out the artists. I have good memories of Glenn. If there was an artist to meet we anoraks including Glenn would be there. If there was a stage to be at the front of the same faces would be quietly waiting and avoiding the dancers waiting for the acts to come on...including Glenn. So sad. regards francis t

Very sad news. All those years working towards retirement and now he is not able to enjoy it (if that makes sense) Saw him at the Candi Staton concert at the Robin recently. He has contributed a lot to the Midlands soul scene and will be missed. regards francis t

Nice Mecca record. There were some white demos and instrumentals around.Sells for about £20 now -well at least in my box- as the b side is appreciated by the deeper colectors. I may have a copy at the shop, if one is wanted on vinyl. Re Dance your ass off.Does anybody still have a "Dance your Ass off at the Ritz buttton badge I produced by back in the seventies?I adapted a large 3/4 inch badge I picked up in the States if I remember rightly. regards francis t mister tee records

I have listened to the broadcast and found it interesting.Years ago when I was a student at Stockport College I deejayed with a mate before Elton John appeared as the live act.He was a great performer soul or otherwise. At the time we tried to persuade the artist booking commitee to book some soul acts rather than the long haired lot like Caravan , Principal Edwards etc--but they would not have it.(Actually some of the jazz rock acts were good- if I am allowed to say that -but a night of Geno Washington, Jimmy James or similar would have gone down well with me.) cheers francis t

This really is a superb topic and it is interesting to read comments from my mate Rick Cooper of his times at Global. Rick and myself went on a buying trip in the seventies which took in New York down to Miami and involved discovering a large storeroom of vinyl in the now art deco district of Miami. Time meant we could only explore half the stock, but we did pull out some classics like white demos of Landslide, Brooks and Jerry on Dynamo demos, the Jewels on Mgm and all sorts of stuff.I don't remember any new discoveries, but thought our adventure worth a mention. I went back about a year or so later and Jacks Records was gone-replaced by a coffee shop. I did find a mom and pop record shop with some soul stuff , including 200 Tarpon copies of Denise Lasalles Love Reputation--which I left as the UK price was only £2 at the time- but often wonder where the other shops stock went.Probably via some deal to the UK. I still have one of the two Showstoppers-Got to get closer acetates-actualy vinyl copies-the other sold to Neil Rushton who released it on Inferno crediting myself and Rick as a+r consultants!I am sure I had an extended 12 inch mix of Houseparty off Rick as well . regards francis t/terry thomas

Surprised nobody has mentioned the brand new IMPRESSIONS CHRISTMAS ALBUM-I'M COMING HOME FOR CHRISTMAS Not exactly full of stompers, but this cd from the line up that delighted the fans who saw the Impressionsin Northampton is well worth checking out. Can be ordered from various internet sites, but worth trying UK suppliers first. MERRY CHRISTMAS francis t

A a member of the West Midland Soul Club team promoting the Glades/Nautical William Revival Nights I agree we should be concerned about free/cheap nights affecting estblished venues. This year we cut down the number of events to a couple as we could not risk the cost of putting on more nights in a council owned (ie expensive) room.Add the cost of a decent sound system , guest deejays etc we thought long and hard before announcing our forthcoming night on the 28th November.Quality costs. If other promoters start to think the same way, and I suspect some are, the bigger traditional venues may disappear at the same rate as the pubs willing to give rooms for free. I think the odd free afternoon evening session of deejays playing their recent discoveries/slowies/crossover rarities might have some place on the scene, put putting "northern soul and motown (of course)"on the same basis as karaoke and general quiz nights does not feel good to me. francis t IF YOU DO NOT MIND PAYING THE FIVER TO GET IN THE NEXT GLADES IN KIDDERMINSTER IS ON 28TH NOVEMBER AT THE GLADES ,BROMSGROVE STREET, KIDDERMINSTER

West Midland Soul Club Memories-Notts Palais
francis t replied to francis t's topic in All About the SOUL
Some interesting comments and pics.Thanks.I am sure it is correct the WMSC were not the first northern soulers at the Palais, but as has been kindly said the WMSC lads put on a great event.Just been talking to Steve about the nights he used to go out fly posting the events and more than one occasion was "chased" out of town by the police! He commented on the fact the manager occasionally did a deejay spot and was indeed a northern fan. I remember on one occasion helping the judging of a dance competition.Never an easy thing to do as all the dancers were very good.Somebody suggested the "girl with the big "T**S ought to win , and she deserved to.Only one problem-not a good idea to make such a suggestion-when the mike was still ON. I used to do a record bar ,normally on the right if I remember, and it was always a good venue for sales of all sorts of music. Keep the memories coming please. francis t
