  1. in my opinion, from a northern / rare soul point of view it has to be butch, most of the others who people class as great only did it for a short period before moving on to other things, butch on the other hand has been top of the tree from the mid 80's to the present day, and before he started d.j'ing regulary he was supplying many of the top d.j's with records, 30 years of turning up top notch unknown sounds is some mean achievment others who have brought great listening pleasure into my life over the years are ian clark dave greet rob marriott sam searling ady croasdell arthur fenn mark bicknell (when he's not retired) gary rushbrook carl fortnum dave thorley pete widdison shay richardson keb darge guy hennighan

  9. brilliant, it costs £20 for a carver and ten bob for a lazer copy of a label, i take my hat off to the seller, he sells half a dozen of these and he's got enough cash to buy a real one, i think i'm in the wrong line of work
  10. two different takes on original thelma, both with girls, the take without girls was pressed in the 90's from unissued master tape, wrongly credited to emanuel laskey, if i remember rightly its actually billy kennedy

  13. how can it be the cleanest copy i'll ever see if its warped ?????
  14. jimmy burns on grapevine is a bootleg, bobby james who owns the rights to it was totally unaware of any u.k. release and he certainly never recieved any royalties from grapevine
  15. there was a few on ebay last year keanya collins and a couple of others

  18. what a great story, he sounds like a very interesting man who's had a very eventful life
  19. i saw tony banks collection after he died, impressive by early 70's standards loads of british demos, but not too many u.s. things that would get you overly excited, this thread is totally pointless, how can you define what the best collection is, or who owns it, having said that i bet steve luigi probably has one of the best collections of bootlegs in the world
  20. george blackwell - mr loser jimmy norman - this i beg of you freddie houston - if i had known
  21. i had a copy of this on tamla, bought it at the 100 club around 1987 / 8 ish for a couple of quid, sold it at the griffin nighter 1992 ish for 20 quid, it wasn't until john manship put a copy up for auction that i realised how rare it was, oh well, you win some, you lose some
  22. all the venues i attend are "friendly" however , i dont want other peoples kids there, its a adult environment, you could always do what i did, if i couldnt get a baby sitter i didnt go out, thats the sacrifices that most responsible parents make, regards your comment of making the mistake of putting soul source and friendly in the same sentence, its a discussion forum, you asked a question and i gave my opinion, thats how it works
  23. to be honest i think butch would eclipse tim
  24. if there aged nine and twelve you should be taking them to alton towers, not dragging them to a frigging soul night, get a grip ffs, broken britain rears its ugly head again
