  1. Last try. 1.above articles suggest that EMI used Tamla Motown , having been invented by Dave Godin for new UK label.in 1965 2. As early as 1963 , in the USA, the term " Tamla- Motown" was being used in trade magazine adverts. Somebody, possibly Godin , suggested that the term "Tamla Motown" would be suitable. I never suggested there was a USA TM label at all.
  2. Where do I imply a label?....the term .
  3. I never said as a label....just that the idea that the term "Tamla Motown"was invented for EMI by Godin was incorrect.
  4. Have a look at the above post by the Yank from 2018. It shows a 1963 Billboard article saying that Tamla-Motown was going global.
  5. Ok...I'll try again. The above articles suggest that the USA Motown labels were 'merged' into an EMI brand name, invented by Dave Godin. However, Tamla-Motown ( with hyphen), was being used in the USA BEFORE 1965 and the new UK label.
  6. I know that...what is your point?
  7. I think the term "Tamla-Motown" was used in the USA before EMI launched the UK label( see USA trade adverts), so not sure that the above suggestion that Dave Godin invented it is correct
  8. Money..that's what I want
  9. I agree. I visited in the early 90s. This new Disney Makeover will ruin the magic .
  10. BBC Radio 4 broadcast a show about Jackie Wilson and his "abandoned" son Bobby Brooks , who now performs as Bobby Brooks Wilson. The story of a boy in Care, who late in life discovered he was the great man's son. Thursday Radio 4 11.30 am
  11. Ok...admission time. I stopped collecting Lamont's albums after " Bittersweet". Not a reflection on him, I tended to finish mid/ late 70s.. Any thoughts on his later work, any recommendations.?
  12. Like others, I had tickets to see him on his tour a few years ago, but of course it was cancelled due to his health problems. A great shame.
  13. If anybody on here is unfamiliar with his LP on The Originals...." California Sunset", please look out for it. One of the greatest albums ever. Here is another of his solo tracks...brilliant
  14. One of favourites. RiP one of the greats
  15. Glad to hear that Ivy Hunter still going strong
  16. yes that would be it Thank you for posting
  17. The first time I heard "Time" was when Edwin appeared on UK TV. I think it was Top of the Pops, but not certain about that. It was definitely a new release, and as such would have been a rare appearance. TMG 725. His 45 with Blinky, TMG 720 had been withdrawn several weeks earlier, and I assumed that EMI pulled that for "Time"....so Edwin could tour and promote it. If there are TOTP archives, it may be there. Vividly remember being shocked and surprised by this new track.....the clock intro very distinctive.
  18. the go to site...well done and thanks for all the hard work that goes into projects like this
  19. Here's a rare photo of Edwin, clearly just after he joined Motown, taken outside Hitsville.. The famous story is that he was on a UK tour , late 1966, and left Detroit as a Ric Tic / Golden World artist. During his UK tour, Golden World was sold to Motown, and as a result , when he returned to Detroit , he was now a Motown artist.
  20. I think it was The Princess Club
  21. Hi. It was a club near the old Bus Station, Chorlton Village, Barlow Moor Road I think. I remember there was a small crowd in.

  23. Saw Edwin several times. My first visit to The Wheel saw him perform . Seem to recall him passing through the football like crowd to get on stage , dressed in a Parker . Must have been 1970. Met him backstage at Manchester Free Trade Hall....remember discussing his duet album with Blinky, which seemed to surprise him ( that I had it) and probably a change from the usual Ric Tic/NS conversations he no doubt had many times. Also, saw him in a club in Chorlton Manchester ( double bill with the re-assembled Elgins). Recall being in the gents WC when Edwin arrived in the next stall to me. Happy Days
  24. in case you've never seen this....Agent Double O Soul
