  1. Just read it (thanks Rachel). Priceless! Surely Pete must have enough material to start a book. Just be sure to get it into the shops in time for Xmas. What i don't understand is how the BBC can justify the ridiculous cost of the tv licence when entertainment of this calibre is available for practically nothing. I suppose it covers the wages they pay media tossers to turn out dross like "My Family" martin btw Pete, did you get any garlic bread? you never said..................
  2. Well now, if it's confession time then can i just add that recently i have been finding myself enjoying more and more the music of a certain Tim Hardin! Don't blame me, blame the Four Tops for covering "If i was a carpenter" Yours, Worried of Watford.
  3. These two threads were some of the funniest stuff i have come across in ages! Congratulations to all of the boys and girls involved. Better than the telly this place. Martin
  4. faking what exactly? - has she staked a claim as an authentic soul singer without me realising? personally i like the album. i LOVE soul music but it aint the be all and end all is it! plenty of room out there for all genres i would have thought. her first album was defo jazz-tinged, this one is soul-tinged. the trick is to listen to it and either (a.) get yourself a copy or (b.) don't. i reckon on here the majority would probably opt for (b.) but that's cool. i doubt very much whether they were relying on gaining the approval of the N-Soul cognoscenti. all in all not a bad album for those with broader tastes but certainly not a "soul" album. 7/10 imho. martin.
  5. As in "You can split" ? Is this the thing that was being played off acetates for a bit? " That's not a woman's way" by Detroit something-or-other - my memory is a bit sketchy now. If it's the same thing then i was told at Cleethorpes by the Grapevine fellas that it was being put on vinyl last autumn. Have yet to see one though. Would love to get that. Stomperoo! If it's not that please accept my apologies - I'll get my coat. martin
  6. I actually really liked that one Pete !
  7. Is this the one that Steve Csordas/Molly have played out over the last 12 months or more? If so then yes it is a very fine choon indeed! If not then just ignore me and I'll slip away quietly ......................... martin
  8. Oooh what an aural treat this one was. Never heard it before but it goes straight onto the wants list. Good shout people. Got a Big Frank in my box somewhere but am useless at uploading stuff - sorry! Keep 'em coming! martin
  9. No complaints from me about the price though! Do you remember the full story Nick? martin
  10. Superb band and excellent choice - bettered only imho by the absolutely sublime "I betcha (couldn't love me)" - wonderfully soulful choon for a tenner or less martin.
  11. My Tony Galla on Swan with a one inch crack in it - OUCH! Martin
  12. Just realised there wasn't a single Chuck Jackson song mentioned ! (although i may of missed it) If i could just give a quick but somewhat belated name-check to a couple of absolute gut-wrenching stormers from Chuck namely.................... What's with this loneliness Look over your shoulder and just remembered.................. I'm your man Just how good was this fella - BLOODY AWESOME - i reckon Martin
  13. Thinking about it Dan it might be down to the sound card/speakers on my pc. Just got the standard Dell ones on this machine - didn't bother to upgrade. Great tune regardless. Martin
  14. There's a version of this by Cissy Houston too on the flip of "I just don't know....." on Janus. Bit screamy for my liking but she gives it a go so fair play to her. My copy of the Tangeers sounds about as rough as the sound clip. Are they all like that? Good choice! Martin
