  7. I agree mate....but i dont like to put to much emphasis on the clothes these days, thats for the individual. It frusttrates the hell out of me when I see smart mod dress only on flyers, if someone wants to come along and see what it's about let them... althought there does have to be a line though, no liverpool or man city shirts or crocs etc ! I try my best to look smart and will always have mod in me but it's about the music for me these days as a good freind of mine once said "music for the soul & clothes for the charactor" How true!
  8. Lets all just keep doing what we are doing and see what happens.....I think NS will always have it''s place and as mentoned on here the next 10 years will see massive change. I think the scene will dwindle as some of the older crowds drop off and people start to sell up etc....One things for sure they'll be some nice records up for grabs and chances are they'll be cheaper than what we are paying these days. The NS scene will always be around but will almost certainly be different to how it is/was. At the minute Soul all-nighters I'm afraid are not in touch with the modern world apart form SS. The only place you pick up flyers are at nighters....but what if you dont go to nighters, how will you know the nights on or attract any new people. No offense but i think it'll be cooler (no baggie pants/vests or bele dancers ) and will start to venture into city centre venues attracting younger crowds. I also think you'll see less and less all-nighters and more 2/3am finishes. I love the soul music, I love the people and the scene in general I find it fascinating...but I'm also looking forward to seeing how it develops in the future and I'm confident it will! Callum
  9. quite good timing really..... I've got new night starting in Newcastle on May 14th 2011 in a city centre venue....and check this out for the name of the building 'Curtis Mayfield House' how cool is that!. The club is 'World Headquarters' and already has a large following of music lovers, the club has a vinyl ethos and I'm not just saying it but the venue is awesome...perfect for a soul night, it's cool, it's dark got so much charactor and has an amazing sound system.....watch this space. Answer to your question regarding time served soul dj's playing to younger audiences and there's not many who i think could pull it off but one dj stands out a mile IMO and that is Karl Heard....he has a flair for dj-ing like no other soul DJ that I've came across.... P.s - for me it has to be original vinyl otherwise you may aswell be playing off cd's... Callum
  10. Good thread........... I think it's a great point what Joe said about younger soul fans putting nights on without as much baggage, make it fresh, make it exciting and it's sure to attract younger poeple.....the music is very special and will always be around but it's definitely more to do with the environment the music is played in. I often wonder about how getting younger types my own age into soul, rnb, latin etc and the thing i always come back to is the venues......Quite often there just off a motorway junc which means if you want to travel you cant have a drink which isn't so much of a problem for the current all-nighter scene but young girls/lads thesedays want to go out get pissed and have fun. The rooms/venues also more often than not the feel very much like a function room (or is that just me?). It doesn't bother me as it's all about the music that's why i travel maybe 3 out of 4 weekends to soul all-nighters/nights. Whenever i show my mates pictures on facebook they always go on about how old people look to which i reply it's all about the music etc, but i suppose it does put younger people off going clubbing surrounded by 50+'s even though the 50+'s can party harder and longer than the younger crowd . I think in order to get younger people into soul the venue needs to be in a cool city centre venue and feel like a club with a kicking sound system......It needs to be promoted properly with cool flyers, posters, facebook etc....just how the way that things are done these days........it's how people communicate. Once people discover soul and get more interested and really develop a passion then the natural progession is start to buy the records...everyone starts off cheap then before you know it there's 100ukp just spent on a record.....I remeber taking the piss out of my mate for spending 40 quid on a record....how times change . I know there's more to it than this but here's my solution: Younger promoters & Younger DJ's in a City Centre Venue attracting a Younger Crowd playing Quality Music = Great night = NEW SOUL FANS On the flipside to this and just something to think about......how would lets say the average age of the soul scene 50/55 year old feel partying in a city centre venue with lots of younger types who dont know a massive amount about NS but just turn up and want to dance to quality soul sounds....would it have an effect on you in anyway? Intersting thought Callum
  11. Sold
  12. Hi Folks, Up for grabs a weird and wonderful mod rnb dancer.....You will of heard it spun in the Rnb rooms at Radcliffe or Middleton. A Bob Morris spin and one that never ventures out his playbox. A quirkey dancer that has an edge Strange - Wolfman - Okeh - EX+ (almost mint) - 50ukp /forums/topic/164227-rs-the-wolfman-strange-okeh/ Pm If interested - I'll be at radcliffe so if you're interested let me know and I'll take it along with me Many Thanks Callum
  13. Really had a great time....I cant remember the last time i enjoyed myself that night at a niter. The tunes were great particularly enjoyed Sean's & Karls set. Karl just seems to gage it perfectly everytime, the right tunes at the right time, there's definitely an art to dj-ing. It's great to hear so many new tunes . The only down point was there was loads of people there i didn't manage to catch up with..... see you all this weekend at Radcliffe for Mr Cato's 50th Birthday celebrations
  14. Hi Luis, I have a working man WD in EX+ condition in my playbox I'm not fussed about letting it go send me an offer and I'll let you know cheers
  15. 25ukp back then but after a few plays by the right dj's and you have yourself a 50ukp record it's all about the demand and how much people are willing to pay..... sounded great when sean played it at burnley! Hope you get one mate
  16. I think this all-nighter will set the standard for 2011.....it looks like it's going to be a packer and you just know musically by the dj's the music is going to be awesome. The most anticipated all-nighter of recent times, well certainly for as long as I've been attending all-nighters. Counting down the days....I'm looking forward to this more than xmas Callum
  17. Hi mate... Moerer has these for $125....great tune mate
  18. F-G HELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I didn't think it would go for that much ....... Gutted......I thought my snipe put me in with a chance but i was still around $1500 off. I wonder if they will start to come out the woodwork now???? Callum
  19. Likewise Micheal, Glad i picked mine up when i did. I was slightly concerned when moerer started listing a few and I know one went through on manships for around 550ukp but i've not seen one since.... Great tune!
  20. Hi Martyn hope your well mate Totally agree with Chalky's idea of making the venue more intimate, it's sure to add to the atmosphere but surely it's the music that entices people onto the dancefloor? Saying that I remember a dj forget his name now but he played Vee Vee - I'm your fool which for me if that doesn't want to make you want to dance then it's game over , there was only myself, Simon Mcmaster and one other on the floor..... ! Col - All being well I've got 18th March pencilled in so if you need a lift mate give me a shout, I'll more than likely be driving down with a few others from the NE....... Uptempo all the way with the exception of a couple of mid-tempo beauties dropped in at the right time = the right balance imo! See you on the 18th Callum
  21. I knew thats exactley what you meant Joan from Dancing to your sets.....my kind of tunes !
  22. Hi Ken, Hope your well mate A little off topic here but linked slightly to "obscurity over dance music" - check out my last played clip, thats obscurity over dance music IMO......it was listed today for 4k . Just think of the records you could buy with that ....I'd be having a george curtis and a johnathan capree with enough to buy a few more lesser known tunes Callum
  23. You're right about the venue mate, it is great and i would love to see it packed with 200+ people. Although the music policy of being creative and not playing the same old, maybe it's the tempo of music thats being played? What I mean is Maybe more focus on uptempo but at the same time being imaginative whether it's a 60's, 70's, Funky, Northern, Rnb, Latin with a smittering of Mid-Tempo records to break the records up. I love mid-tempo but it has to have some balls about it, infact all the records have to have balls about them IMO! When people say to me rocking, I Imagine the dancefloor packed and the sounds being spun are uptempo..thats just my perception. When I go out to a niter I want to be on the dancefloor all-night IMO it's the uptempo tunes that get poeple on the dancefloor . I'll do my best to be at the next nighter, it looks like a top line up and there's a few dj's on that i haven't heard before. It's always good to hear new dj's/sounds being played p.s - maybe in addition to a badge a cd might attract a few more punters Callum
  24. Am i right in thinking that the music policy has changed from what it was back in the days when the Wilton was rocking every month? If so then surely it's time to bring back the old music policy. It may take a while to build the numbers up again but if people know that when they come to the Wilton they are going to hear the original music policy then surley it will attract the poeple who used to attend regularly + new punters. If it's not been working for a while maybe time for a change? I've been to Wilton 3 times and enjoyed it mainly because i've met some great people and heard some real stand out tunes while i've been there...especially when Karl, Andy D and Joan played. However in terms of atmosphere and going out expecting to be on the floor most of the night....it didn't happen for me. A shame because everyone i speak to says how great the Wilton was and I must add the venue is outstanding and deserves a bigger crowd I wonder why the numbers are low from what it used to be? Callum
  25. Couple of nice belters there gibbo! I'd love the Brookes Bros....been listening to that tonight as it goes, nice finds! I hope your getting comission on these Callum
