  1. Hi Jim I hope all's well with you. The first tape Dave did for me had this on it and it's just one of that tracks that you just have to sing along to! Also like Girls are made for lovin' on Bang / New Sound. Mark
  2. Paul You're right. Thanks for the corrections. Mark

  4. There is another thread on this but like many others found this quite frustrating at the time. The petition was started by some well respected and fairly influential soulies, one name who was known to many on the scene at the time. Sam at the time was playing some great things although I know got challenged on a few e.g. when he first played Coffee and Casanova off the LP, it sounded great and loads of people went up on the stage to find out what it was but then Sam got slated when it later became a hit. I can remember quite a few tracks that Sam was playing while he was a resident dj, that others started playing when he was no longer there. All in the past now but quite frustrating at the time for all of the soulies who went to the Casino looking forward to certain dee-jays spots. Great to see Sam still there with name in lights!
  5. Thanks for joining this thread and Court is very well respected on the Soul scene. Over the years to try to maintain the obscurity of a release a dee-jay would cover the label up and call it by a different name and this is where the Herbie Williams name comes in. After many years this was finally uncovered so people became aware of who it really was. Please say hello to Court and respect from the UK Soul scene. Mark
  6. Persil tickets - oh fond memories! With Mike Fletcher (Fletch), Tim Bone (Bonie) and many others we used to plan on a weekly basis who's parents were buying the Persil so we could get the two in one offer. Magic!
  7. Hi Sam I hope alls well. The original version was great, but I truly think this updated version is the Contours at their best. Release yes definately. Mark
  8. Hi Toad I still have a tape of yours from around that time with the Cashmeres on it also the Imaginations, Determinations, J.T. Brown, Traditions, Prince Phillip Mitchell, Leon Bryant, Bobby Cutchins etc. Some great tunes then and still now! Mark
  9. Harpo 100% with you. Love to play similar things in the record room at home and always thoroughly enjoy the session. Should we at some point organise a night of shared joy, double up on the decks, invite a 100 few other guests (like everyone who has joined this thread) and have a night to remember. One request I also don't do the dancing in a precinct thing. I hear that if you have been to one of the recent Casino nights in Wigan that when ever you walk past a Next now in any town you feel the urge to start dancing! Mark
  10. You were nearly right and although it was Don Parker, Sam might have has a mad moment. Deltours I can't remember this being covered as "Pretty As A Picture".
  11. I remember when Richard played this for the first time at the Casino as Clouds and Doni Burdick, it was just brilliant and so atmospheric. When I got my own copy it still sounded as good although the vocal version is not everyone's cup of tea.
  12. Gang Band - TSOB - Slipped Disco (Nightime Shadows) was released in 1975 and is from Boston. Leo and Co - Hot Dog - Gamma (Canadian label 12" only) (Casino Strut) was also a 70's release but not sure of the year and in Canada was a theme tune to an advert. Thanks Mark
  13. Mark Likewise saw Sam in the last 18 months and spoke to him about both this and Leo and Co (Casino Strut c/up), he said he does get asked quite a lot about what these were but can never remember what they are. I wrote them down for him so he new in the future. Mark
  14. Thanks. My memory was it was Jolly. He came down and played loads of things I didn't know but were good. It was the same as when we went to Yate after getting used to the sounds of Wigan on a Saturday night. Keith Minshull was the guest and played things like Harlem Rumble and other regular Saturday night sounds at the Casino but appeared unknown at Yate. In turn the Yate dee-jays were also playing things that were new to me at the time.
  15. Yes it was around 1980 as I can remember knowing Bridget for about a year before the Casino closed and we kept in contact for a few years afterwards. Mark
  16. Hi Jock I hope all is well! Who was the guest dee-jay at Wigan around 1980 from Scotland. I know he brought a coach load down with him and I believe that possibly you were on it. Mark
  17. From memory Bridget did spend some time in Crewe as it was with Martin Maylor that I met her. Although this may have been that she stayed there occasionally. A couple of other names from Crewe Ady and Bob. I think Ady became a Royal Guard. Mark
  18. Mark I REMEMBER MICK HOW IS HE MATE? BAZ A
  19. "Heavy metal blues" backing track resembles - Marvin Gaye "I heard it through the grapevine" Not sure with the other one.
  20. Do you know what happened to either Carol or Bridget. I know Bridget had I believe a daughter a few years later and I went up to the christening but have lost contact since. Mark
  21. Yes Carol and Bridget Kelly (West Kirby) Mark
