I'm sure that Richard Searlings first copy was like this - I was under the impression it was Canadian Brunswick. Years later I had a Canadian Decca copy and then began to wonder about Richards, so maybe it was German / French. Is this your copy Pete? Cheers Mick https://northern-soul-records.com

Saw this last night at £51 - couldn't really beleive it - looked today and found the finishing price of £125 - still don't beleive it. https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=170135811840 With a release number of 6051 012 that puts it into the 70's anyway, although it was advertised as an original. But whether it is a first, second or eighth issue, what is going on ?? In the back of my mind I think I remember another copy about 6 months ago going for silly money (£20 plus) - nothing like this amount though. Cheers Mick https://northern-soul-records.com

Proxy Bidding On John Manship's Auctions
Mick Holdsworth replied to Mick Holdsworth's topic in All About the SOUL
Martyn, Assume that no one else bids on this, does that mean the Highest bidder will get it, not for £157 , but one increment above the next highest, in this case £109 ?? Cheers Mick -
Proxy Bidding On John Manship's Auctions
Mick Holdsworth replied to Mick Holdsworth's topic in All About the SOUL
Hi Martyn, Thanks for that - Does it always show the second highest bid as the minimum required to out bid the third highest ? Bidder A £157 Bidder B £ 83 --------- shows 83 but would really be 148 ?? Bidder C £ 75 etc If that's the case it does make sense now. Cheers Mick https://northern-soul-records.com -
I was gonna ring John Manship but it's too late tonight, so I thought I'd ask Soulsource folks. (If you're around John, maybe you can put me on the right track). Can anyone tell me how the proxy bidding set up works on John Manships auctions? - I've never noticed before but there's a few running at the moment with a top bid far in excess of a required increment above the second highest bidder. For example, Kim Weston has a high bid of £78.00, and the second highest maximum bid was £9.00, yet the increment required is only £8.00 - So if I had put that bid in of £78.00 (or more), I would have thought I only had to top the £9.00 maximum of the second highest bidder, plus £8.00 increment, making £17.00, with £61 to play with. The bidding help on John's site suggests that proxy bidding works, but the above example clearly doesn't. Am I missing something - If so please let me know. Are you saying that eBay automatically responded to your upload with a warning ?? - must say i've never known this to happen before, it's usually afterwards if someone complains that a problem may arise - was there something in your description that flagged up a problem ?? Suspicion - Detroit Prophets / Originals
Mick Holdsworth replied to Supercorsa's topic in Look At Your Box
Hello, There were indeed 4 versions - the "Original" back in the late 70's - a guitar based version that to this day has never been released, the CK Cd from about 10 years ago, and the more recent "reissue" on Soul (this has the Inst on the back). It sounds to me that the instrumental is not any original backing, but a modern day re-recording. Cheers Mick https://northern-soul-records.com -
The Doug Parkinson record was introduced to the scene in late 1978 as a new release, by Dave Sinclair, also known as Louie. Dave lived round the corner from me in Wolverhampton and went out to Australia for 3 months, before moving over there for good. When he came back after the first 3 months, he had a handful of these records, 4 or 5 - he gave me either 3 or 4 of them to distribute. Clive Jones had one, Richard Searling another, and I kept one (or maybe two). Richard told me he never got round to opening the parcel for a fair few months, but when he did, he instantly started to play the record out. In the couple of years that followed, Louie sent me a few more copies, and I think Sam may have had one of those and probably Neil Rushton, but that would be about 82 or 83. Cheers Mick https://northern-soul-records.com Just wondered if Dave Sinclair / Louie is a member of this forum ?????

I thought the Supremes and Barbara Mercer version of My Dear Heart was the same recording, just that it had a cover-up artist and an assumed real artist, which may or may not be correct. Are there actually two different versions apart from Shawn Robinson ?? Cheers Mick https://northern-soul-records.com

How Can I Remove Sticky Residue From Vinyl ?
Mick Holdsworth replied to Mick Holdsworth's topic in All About the SOUL
Thanks for the info everyone - I was a bit concerned about various substances "eating" into the vinyl - ther was a thread a few months ago regarding what to use for general cleaning etc. I'll try one or two of these on a garbage record first - if it works then i'll give it a go on the good stuff. Thanks again Mick -
Hello everyone Wonder if anyone can offer help on this. I have a couple of records that were once covered up and the c/u label removed. The area between the run-outs and the labels now has a sticky residue from the little bits of tape. It there anyway to remove this without damaging the vinyl (in one case acetate) - I should point out the play area and label area are clear of any tape residue. Thanks in advance Mick https://northern-soul-records.com

Here are a few more stocks that are probably rarer than demos .... Cheers Mick https://northern-soul-records.com

Here you go Pete. Just read the previous post - didn't realise it was 6 months ago that Grapevine released it - where does the time go? Cheers Mick https://northern-soul-records.com

Hello John, Yes - With the exception of the Jacklyn Logo at the top, everything else on the label is Modern Typset - I've put scans up below. The Left one is the reissue, and the Right one is Original. Why a High Density Scan of an original wasn't used is a good question - If I were going to recreate a label I would have used an original throughout. As to why it went for $122 ??????? Cheers Mick https://northern-soul-records.com
-
Yes Pete , but only one - intended to get some more and completely forgot about it I'm sure Grapevine / John Manship / or anyone who stocks new release northern should have it. If you want an mp3 let me know and I'll record it. Cheers Mick https://northern-soul-records.com

Quite a good copy but definately not for real - modern fonts throughout - The seller also has a reissue of Al McCarther, again a good label reproduction. Expect we'll see more copies in coming weeks. https://cgi.ebay.com/AL-McCARTHER-His-True-...6QQcmdZViewItem Cheers Mick https://northern-soul-records.com

Pete The record is something Des Parker found from Jerry Williams It was issued about 3 months ago on Grapevine 2000 "Is this a womans way" by "Detroit Magnificents" Cheers Mick https://northern-soul-records.com

Hello Does anyone know if Patrice Holloway 'Keep On Rollin' was a genuine recording, or a sing-a-long thing. The first time I saw it around was on a white lable press credited to Brenda and I assumed it was a fake - Soon after, the song then seemed to be credited to Patrice in various listings etc. so now I'm not so sure. Apologies if this has been brought up before. Cheers Mick https://northern-soul-records.com

Try this ..... Cut and paste the following into a notpad file and rename it to auctions.htm (make sure the file extension is .htm or .html) this will be a standalone file sitting on your desktop Cut and paste BETWEEN the $ signs $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ <script LANGUAGE="Javascript"> <!-- Begin function writeLayer(text) { document.frames['myFrame'].location.href = text; document.addrForm.location.value = text; } function setLayer(text) { if (text.indexOf("",0) <= 0) text = "https://www.raresoulman.co.uk/auction/newli...m?AuctionItemID=" +text; document.frames['myFrame'].location.href = text; document.addrForm.location.value = text; } function onload(text) { if (text != "Microsoft Internet Explorer") { alert("netscape not supported"); history.back(); } return true; } // End --> John Manship Auctions (Earliest is 154 to just over 2000 (Oct 2006) : $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ The link that is highlighted is incomplete, and you should add this bit in where the .... is newliveview.htm?AuctionItemID= Like the other online file, you will have to enter random numbers to home in on the one you want - the numbers are over 2000 at the moment Cheers

Got this one about 3 months ago - don't think it's particularly hard to find, at least not as hard now as 25 years ago. https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=250013223113 Sold it last month to Soul Sam for about £100 (torn label, scratched and worn vinyl etc, but played OK). I also have one autographed by Tobbi Bowe, also bought off the net about 5 years ago for a small nominal sum. Cheers Mick https://northern-soul-records.com

Hello Martyn - I'm sure the two original instumental releases are genuine, it's only the latter day S S vocal recording that was doggy. Cheers Mick https://northern-soul-records.com

Good grief, that was my local - surpised anyone remembered that place - Dave Jay the DJ with his 4 decks !!! - He hated emi discs, reckoned it buggered up his needles (personally I thing the pile of 2 shilling peices glued to each arm might have had more to do with it though). Happy days though - stopped going when the admission went up to 20p !!
