St Ives All-nighters around 76 - Big Sound
Mick Holdsworth replied to Zoomsoulblue's topic in All About the SOUL
Have a vague recollection of JM auctioning one around then, so that maybe the one Dave bought (speculation). It seems to be quite hard to find nowadays. -

I bought the Judy Hughes off Sam, probably around 78 or 79 ish. I kept it for a few years, might have DJ'd with it, although I did found it a bit bland, so it may not have had no more than one or two outings. I eventually sold it on many years later, possibly to either Guy Hennigan, or maybe it's one I kept until I sold everything much later to Richard Domar, about '86 or so. (Most of those went to Tim Brown I believe). I think Simon Soussan also had one in his collection when he sold up, but don't know who bought that. -

Kent Loma box set of singles (& a CD too): pre-release
Mick Holdsworth replied to Seano's topic in All About the SOUL
Although the soundclip is also missing, the Apollas "Silver Moon" is very good, It dates back much earlier than 2012 though. Blue Max bought an unlabelled 10 inch acetate of it from Des Parker in early 2004 (I think it was from Des). Max didn't know who the arist was or the titles, only that Des had said it was a WB related disc. However, as "Jive Cat" was on the flip, it then became apparent, they were the Apollas. I put it on a 7 inch for him. probably around 2005. (Des may have had it earlier of course). Was it you who found it Des ? @Md Records -
Looks like the same Blue demo variation that Tim Ashibende posted a picture of about four or five months ago. Gotta be real.
-
Oh dear, what a shame, I hadn't seen him in ages. A great loss and, as others have said, such a great person.
-
I'm looking for a recent type release I heard last night. It is an Unknown Artist, called "Show Me" from the Restoration Project. I can't find any info as such, so maybe I have the info slightly wrong. It was a UK 7 inch release in a picture cover. It was a previously unreleased track, could be early seventies. It has a Green and (maybe) Black label, solid middle, with "Unknown Artist" printed as the Artist. Thanks Mick

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN A MEMBER ON HERE ???
Mick Holdsworth replied to Steviehay's topic in All About the SOUL
I go back to about 2002/3, when it was more of a bulletin board, but when the new style site took over I think my account disappeared or some such, so had to rejoin in 2006. Never did find out what happened. -
Quick Question...Vibrating Vibrations
Mick Holdsworth replied to Billy Jo Jim Bob's topic in All About the SOUL
Surprise Party ? Apart from the seventies reissues / boots, there seems to be quite a few other "reissues", some with 'Cause You're Mine" on the flip, some with "Right On Brother" on the flip, on Okeh and Neptune, but I don't know how recent they are. There might be an Outta Site release too, but that might only be CYM only. Cheers, Mick -
Missed the original post. Wow

Will miss you Dave, I can't make the funeral today do to an appointment that can't be changed, but will be thinking of you. The very best to you and your family and friends.
-
Thanks for that Robb, that's one I can forget about. The more I listen to "Truth" by Monique. the more I feel it could be the same band and similar instrumentation, albeit a different song. Maybe I'm barking up the wrong tree, but I'm tending towards an abandoned Maurci song, or if not, a St Lawrence recording, which would link it to its other side "Too Many Memories". I've just realised I'd never considered Satellite records, quite few I've not heard there, Just hoped it was going to be easy to locate its vocal, if one ever existed.
-
I think that was one I couldn't hear a clip of anywhere, so it is a possibility. Thanks.

I have an 8 inch Audiodisc acetate but have never been able to identify the song. It is an Instrumental, and has Mamie Galore "Too Many Menories" instrumental on the flip. It came as one of two Acetates, the other one alco being an 8 inch Audiodisc single (this one was a single sided disc with the backing to "Nobody's Baby Am I"). I've had them about 12 years or so, and always felt the unnamed inst was connected to Maurci / St. Lawrence / Thomas or even a Topper backing, but I've been through everything I could find, and not hit on it. Audio Clip here . . . https://voca.ro/168gmMK5ScaB Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Mick

First image Looks like a garden centre. Second one looks like a shipping container. Third one looks like just about any out of town shopping centre. It may not end up looking like this though, will have to wait and see.

Mojo / Contempo label -alternative takes / mixes
Mick Holdsworth replied to Joesoap's topic in Look At Your Box
Similarly the UK London seventies release of Bobby Paris also has a cold finish, whereas the US Cameo fades out. -
Here's a scan of Tami Lynn / Irish Polydor with the UK Mojo list number. It happened a lot in Ireland in the mid sixties through to the mid seventies. I have a few EMI Invictus on Irish Columbia, A Silvertop London of Al Green "Let's Stay Together" Parlaphone releases of UK Apple, Act 1 on Black Mercury, Moments on Irish Philips, Rosco Robinson on Scepter, most of these using original UK list numbers and stampers. I don't know why the labels were old style, it's as if the UK companies never told their Irish counterparts that the new subsidiary labels had launched. I love 'em.

Green solution to the surge in vinyl demand ... ?

Just seen that on BBC Click. Good idea, but I think it'll take a long time for that to become industry standard though. -
Label Mistakes the factory didn't spot
Mick Holdsworth replied to Bo Diddley's topic in Look At Your Box
