Yes, just checked the dates and it probably was as early as '77 when it was first played, kept covered for a while as Ramsey Lewis, and then made available, Didn't realise it was that early, but as Nev died in 1980, and it was definitely before that sad event, then your date does feel about right.

If you listen carefully to the Southwind track, it is simply the instrumental parts from standard Lou Pride vocal spliced together, and then doubled up, ie. first half = second half. The story at the time was that it was a brand new recording, and that the added piano was linked to an Al Green session player, although the pianists name was never mentioned. The aforementioned "Love's On Ration", is the backing track to the Four Seasons - Watch The Flowers Grow, using Vocal Elimination technology with added hiss to try and cover the remnants of the vocals. Both tracks appeared at the same time, around 80/81 but it could have been an extra year either way.

Ron Holden. Is there a Challenge stock issue ?
Mick Holdsworth replied to Mick Holdsworth's topic in Look At Your Box
Thanks to all for your comments. It seems the answer is "almost" certainly that no stock copy exists, or at least never released to the public. (Some copies could have been manufactured in anticipation, but destoyed if the promo fell flat for whatever reason). I'll use this comment to hightlight that it was 45cat, not Disccogs, where I saw the original comment. Scroll dow to gino-nottingham . . . https://www.45cat.com/record/59360us -
Both of the Nolan Chance Constellations are also on Bunky.

Something that has puzzled me for a good many years. Did Ron Holden - I'll Forgive And Forget, ever get a release on Challenge, or is it a promo only ? The only reference I can find is a single comment on 45Cat, saying it does exist, but is rare Anyone able to shed a light in this ? Thanks in advance.

Rob, Chunky Phil was Phil Simner, not Sumner. (There was a Colin Sumner, and I think maybe you got the two names mixed up). Yes, I also have fond memories of him from the basement of Sundown, formerly Graduate records in Broad Street, in the early mid seventies. Wonderful times, Saturdays only to start with in '73, and by late '74 i also went there on random week days, depending on free periods at school. During this period Sundown moved to the corner of Lichfield Street. He'd often keep any new release UK demos on one side for me, and I can remember getting the Tymes (Ms Grace), Exciters (Reaching), the UK RCA Beverly Ann EP, and many other UK demos. Occasionally a US new release demo would also appear from under the counter, but the majority were UK. He also delivered to my house in Bradmore an early copy of the US release of The Fabulous Zing LP just before he went up the road to the Bradmore pub to DJ. He sold up sometime in the late seventies and I bought his MGM Bok To Bach from him. I was also offered Billy Harner Inst, but never took it! I spent a full day going through his records at his home, but could only afford one or two others, as B2B had almost crippled me at £20.00. Some years later, he was the manager of a record shop on Dudley Street (the name escapes me). A great guy, and a massive influence as a youngster in the my early soul days.

I've noticed the "Mark Forum As Read" link doesn't immediatly change the display, although a refresh of the page does clear it. It may be unconnected to the upgrade, but thought I'd mention it.

Non-soul artists recording soul music
Mick Holdsworth replied to Djmelismo's topic in All About the SOUL
I almost hate to mention him, as the other record will spring to mind, however Paul Anka. I refer to "Can't Help Loving You" and only that song. -
Such a shame, really sag news.

Only remember it covered up as Lenny Curtis - Not Another Day - I bought Sam's copy as this.

World Of Happiness - New 45 - Remastered And A New version
Mick Holdsworth commented on Mike's article in News Archives
Just listened to all three, and the Harthon 2000 release is indeed chopped around, and editied to be much longer (two inst breaks). However the Beatin' Rhythm from 2012 and this new one both seem to be the same, just the new on being remastered and slightly longer at the fade out. Here's the Beatin' Rhythm for comparison. Just noticed the full title has changed on the new one - "The World" becomes "A World". -
Stuart Cosgroove, Robby Lawson, Beatles & The National
Mick Holdsworth replied to Mike's topic in All About the SOUL
I think we are both referring to the same video on Facebook - very high bass on the recording, probably done on a mobile. I just felt it was the Superlatives, but the vocals were so low due to the way the video was recorded it could be a female version. -

I thought that was another male version (I heard it about five months ago if we're talking about the same version) Sounds like the Superlatives -
I saw a post recently (Facebook?) where someone had put up a version of Otis Lee - Hard Boat To Row, which was mixed with Talking Heads (I think !). I didn't listen to it, and I'm not sure these are the correct details, but it worh a search. It was abour a week ago I saw it,

There's a version with a psychedelic type intro that's been around for ages on sound files. It's credited to Richard Parker but that's probably made up. It's not the same backing, but a different recording. There is also a sing-a-long of this version with just backing singers. I;ve just found the Ernest clip. It is the same as the version I referred to above.
