SIMON SOUSSAN | MIND BLOWING NORTHERN SOUL! Charley Channel

I understand he is Moroccan. -
That's the one, I remember you posting it here years ago, I just got the size wrong. I see it is uncredited too, something else I remembered incorrectly.
-
Absolutely fine, no offence taken.

That image and website is mine, and I did sell it onto Carl W. I am from the West Midlands (Wolves), but it was just a simple sale. The "indiscretion" and story that follows is not me though. I do think I know who you are referring to, but I won't name him as it he has nothing to do with this record. Cheers Mick PS There is also an 8 inch acetate labelled much as my own was, also credited to JBW and DWBHNM. Think it belonged, or belongs to Andy Rix. Not sure if it's single sided.

Timothy Leonard - Sad News - RIP - Tlscapitol
Mick Holdsworth replied to Soul Shrews's topic in All About the SOUL
Oh Dear, that's sad news, and a complete shock, as I was only talking with him, in a message about two weeks ago. -
I wonder if anyone knows if North Broad St. Records are experiencing any problems with orders. I have an outstanding order with them from the end of the year and nothing has arrived. There is no response to emails, or the contact form on their website. It may be nothing and they are busy just getting on with it as fast as they can, but lack of communication is always a bit unnerving. Thanks Mick UPDATE - I'm now in direct contact so I'll lock this post off. Cheers everyone.
-
I also bought three on 28th December and as of this morning the order is unprocessed, presumably John and staff have had a long break. Probably get dealt with Monday onwards.

Yes, the message varies. I've just had one saying unable to verify at the moment, try again tomorrow. For this one, it was a retun to Talk Talk and they sent me a pre paid sticker , and a link to book a collection. When I tried to enter the number I got a similar error message, so on Wednesday I went to the PO and they beeped it fine. I asked them if number was okay, mentioning problems with booking it online, and they sait the munber is fine, even comfirmed the open "OT" rather than "0T" (It has to be two letters, then nine numbers then two more fimal letters. Thanks for your help

Thanks for that, that is the UK RM page I was getting until a couple of days ago. Just tried it again and even though It's the same error, I hit the red button a couple of times and hey presto, it worked, so thank you for that.
-
Yep, that's what I get too, for both. Think the problem is the RM site itself rather than the numbers. (As I said before the LV .. number did show up, as "In Transit" up till 2 days ago, so it must be on the system.
-
Thanks for that. I think the US one is the same info on the USPS site, and the ParcelApp one doesn't recognize the number. Running the US number through ParcelApp it also gives the Full USPS info, but can't pick up the number in the UK I think the problem is with the Royal Mail site.
-
I'm looking for a bit of help please. Is anyone is having trouble with the Royal Mail tracking page ? Maybe it's me, but these two are giving me a headache, and I wonder if anyone can check them out for me. The first one is a US incoming parcel. It shows on USPS site okay, and it DID show on the UK RM site, but it was hit and miss, up till a couple of days ago, and now it won't work atall. https://www.royalmail.com/track-your-item#/tracking-results/LV672970434US The second one is a UK Parcel I sent out (to Talk Talk) using a pre paid sticker couple of days ago (Accepted at PO no problem). https://www.royalmail.com/track-your-item#/tracking-results/OT242490028GB In each case I the numbers turn to red and I get an error message. "Sorry, there was a problem, please try again". So if anyone can test them and let me know what you get, that would be great. Thanks Mick

The clunk can be heard on the UK Grapevine release too, as it was mastered from a La Beat copy. I think the clearer Palmer press only turned up over here just after the UK Grapevine was released in 1980.

If the rumour is right, it may explain why a version without her lead vocal was put out on the B side of an unrelated track.

Have to say I never knew that their name "The MGs" came from our British Leyland car of the day.

From pillowy pop to foot-stomping beats: 'The Supremes’
Mick Holdsworth replied to Mal C's topic in All About the SOUL
One of their LP tracks I quite like is "My Heart Stood Still". Probably needs cranking down a bit. (also on a US EP) -
WHAT ARE THE BIGGEST 'MODERN' NIGHTER SOUNDS?
Mick Holdsworth replied to Paraboliccurve's topic in All About the SOUL
Just as a matter of interest, was it "Funny" that becket was asking about, as that is the track in the mixcloud link. If he meant "Found Love In My Own Back Yard", then is that clip also in the link, (I haven't been though the whole show). "Funny" is new to me, and I love it. I'd love to hear the other side. -
Beatles / EMI 45's pressed up by other companies
Mick Holdsworth replied to Roburt's topic in Look At Your Box
Cilla Black - You're My World - Parlophone was also pressed up by Polydor. As with above, EMI supplied labels, but immediately noticable by the three pronged middle. I only saw it once about 15 years ago. -
Alongside TMG, nearly all EMI label promos changed from red/white to green/white around the same time, and had nothing to do with original or reissued music content. The identical color change happened with promotional copies on UA/Stateside/Capitol/HMV/Columbia/Parlophone and most of the rest. I've often wondered why the change happened. as it was only beneficial to those promoting it. The general public who paid their money still got black labels. If anything, it is more expensive to use green for a full background on both sides than red for the A on one side only (ie. more ink needed). I'm sure the reason for the change is documented somewhere, would love to know.

It was certainly big around '78 and for quite a few years after, well into the 80's. That's just the period I remember it, but it could have been around before '78

I've just had a much more comprehensive history about the Southwind Symphony from John Manship. He is fine with me posting it up on his behalf. "Southwind Symphony. i found the master tape of Lou Pride in Bill Glore's studio on Chelsea Ave, Memphis in 1977 Bill introduced me to Kenneth Smith the producer I asked him if he could make me an instrumental version, he produced the Southwind Symphony for me, and pressed me 1200 copies which I bought. So what's the mystery? Kenneth told me he employed Al Green's pianist for the keyboard work. Nothing fishy about the release all made and mixed by kenneth Smith himself using the mastertape i found at Bill Glore's recording studio where the original vocal version was made. It was an exclusive for me until I wholesaled some out yo Neil Rushton and Richard Domar." and then . . . "Produced by Kenneth Smith at Bill Glore's studios on Chelsea Avenue Memphis, with added keybpoard from Al Green's piano player (Charles Hodges). No mystery or splicing he made 1200 copies I bought them all in 1977 Nev Wherry who worked for me at the time got the first copy, covered it up as Ramsey Lewis."
