  9. Yes, great tune, but not worth anything like £320. Well under the ton and close to £60 would be more like. Got a feeling this was tailor made for the northern scene - check the Ian Leving thread or ask the question! Cheers, John.
  10. Hit the nail on the head there Steve - again. In 20+ years of DJing I always have and always will play originals only. If I don't have the record, I can't play it and in developing my set I will look at what I have, not what I wish I had or what others are playing. There is nothing more galling than hearing another so called DJ playing something off a boot, particularly a 70's boot which he/she bought around the time he/she left the scene only to return 25 years later proclaiming him/her self to have been at the centre all the time! Do promoters care? No, probably not. Getting people through the door is their primary concern so why bother? Oh that and DJing themselves - not always a wise move. They should though. In providing a quality service to the paying customer they would win a loyal and appreciative following and encourage travel to the venue. Do punters care? Well I'm a punter and I do! I feel cheated if someone has not taken the trouble or is just not into the music enough to want to own and play an original. Of course you can tell. Sound quality, a DJ playing a record that is clearly out of sorts with the rest of his set or those who cover the label either on the decks or after it's finished. Also there sometimes seems to be a hurry to return said disc to it's box. As for playlists, well why not publish these? This scene is about sharing music so why keep it a secret? Sadly I have seen those who post correct labels when they have not played off that label so it may not make much difference. I still fear, Steve, that it ain't gonna be solved as the root problem is very deeply um, rooted. The symptoms are too many venues and too many DJs and we don't seem to be able to change that. The effect is that the scene is a watered down version of what it was with no need to travel, you can hear the same boots everywhere. John.
  11. Yes, that's a great idea Steve but one sadly doomed to failure. You only have to look at the events lookback section to see that, of course, every single event is originals only, had top DJs, was packed to the rafters and had a great atmosphere in a brilliant venue. Who will be the first to break the trend for mutual backslapping? J.
  12. Around £20-30 I'd say Ian. "Better to Bend Than Break" goes for a bit more at around £60-70 but is a lesser record imo. Fabulous artist, fabulous record. John
  13. Oh yes, what a record! And a relative cheapie too.
  14. Well. The trailer is FAR better than I was expecting, loved it. I found the voice over a bit trite but as you say, I am probably not your target audience. Nevertheless, I've ordered a copy and just hope I get to see it before we all disappear into a black hole......... Well done Ian and - THANKS. John.
  15. Many thanks Paul, interesting stuff. It is indeed a great track. Will the unissued tracks ever become available? I wonder if Lamar will get around to recording it? John.
  16. Thanks Ian, I meant Johnny Bristol "Come To Me" on Whichway label from around '91. It was the JJ Barnes you previously posted which I thought was so good. Thanks for the "What Does It Take.......". What are other JB tracks and are they available please? John.
  17. I don't see it either Alan but perhaps it's my ears....... I'll listen again too! It is a brilliant track and ranks alongside the two Johnny Bristol songs, the cover of "Man Up In The Sky" and "Keep This Thought In Mind". Outstanding, in my opinion. Ian, I'm sure I asked you this last week but were you involved in Johnny's "Come To Me"? ......and are there any other JB songs available or in the offing? John. EDIT: Just realised my mistake. I was talking about JJ Barnes, whereas you were on a completely different song. DOH!
  18. Yes, remember "Flashback" seemed the dogs at the time but doesn't sound so good now? Don't know too much else but I have a 70's ish version of "Better Use Your Head" by them which is passable (although maybe only because it's my all time favourite song). Always found them a bit, I don't know, light on the soul content perhaps? IMO only of course. What would you recommend listening to? John.
  19. Brilliant sound!!!! Played it out not so long ago. As you say, also issued as "The Shufflers". Not sure of current prices buy expect to pay more for "Jay & The Shufflers" Right, that's my music input, back to the Ian Levine thread. Best, John.
  20. And "From A Whisper To A Scream" is one of the greatest albums EVER. Wish I'd seen this show, twice in the same thread I've been in the wrong place........... Jocko, any plans for more? Are we off topic or are they? John.
  21. Totally agree Davie (with the principle if not the punishment!). Shame I'm as far away from Dundee as I am - would be good to visit one of your nights. Best, John.
  22. Marva Lee - Old and Grey Brilliant sound and relevant indeed! John.
  23. Yes, Mel Hayes vocal and I agree, instrumental far better due to those strings. It was that side which was played first I recall. John.
  24. Well said.....and sound just as good today. Boogie Man Orchestra anyone?
