  1. Yes, but they never would, would they? Word of mouth helps but then the politics you mention comes back into play.
  2. Hits the nail on the head for me. But agree, this subject has been done to death. Originals only - end of! John.
  3. Thanks Ian, that's what I thought (and mine has) - much relieved! Well keep the bastards away from my Alexander Patton demo!!! John.
  4. Indeed Ian, quelle surprise and far better than the other two acts we just mentioned on that "other" thread. Am I alone in detecting a Stevie Wonder influence in his vocal style? Worth a listen at least. John.
  5. I guess if the Duffy version didn't exist you may have a point.......but it does I'm afraid. The Belleruche is another awful pop song as far removed from soul music as Lorraine Chandler (which is what I mis-read you as saying ) is from Duffy. Can't believe anyone would be playing this. Avoid! John.
  6. Meanwhile, yes, I remember it played, both at Wigan & Yate. Think emi discs were taped from cinema ads and after a while, Gordons cottoned on and issued a limited number with a spoken intro "Everones's asking about this sound, what is it, where does it come from? Well here is the sound brought to you by Gordon's Gin!" .....or something similar. Sure I posted this before somewhere................ John.
  7. Um, just a small point Sebastian. Your link takes me to the auction and I am able to bid without entering ID or password. Who am I logged in as? You? How's your bank account looking!!! J.
  8. Sorry Kev, don't see it at all. Sounds like Alfie Davison to me! Does remind me though of the story that the "Peanut Duck" was actually an album track by Lulu. Spent may frustrated hours looking through her albums and trying to make track names fit but to no avail. Of course, it may well be! J.
  9. Are we talking boots here or the legal (ish) re-issues on Uk labels from 70's & 80's? If boots, they have for me, no value at all.
  10. Female: Esther Phillips Male: Marvin Junior (The Dells)
  11. His "Devil In The Red Dress/Good Golly Miss Molly" sugue (think that's what you call it when 2 songs are combined?) may be a bit more um, twisted James. ....and a big track back in the day. John.
  12. Hits the nail right on the head for me mate. Al Wilson's Rocky Road and Playboy label stuff are some of the most soulful music ever made. The Snake is a novelty pop record.
  13. Always smiled at the Ted Cassidy, played it indoors not too long ago..........didn't make it to the end! Maybe I'll try again at Brid. World Column - So Is The Sun Cartoon Candy Carnival - Mickey Mouse Concerto High Voltage - Country Road Anyone remember an instrumental called Apollo 11 or something similar? John.
  14. I quite like it, sort of. It's certainly better than Duffy although it suffers from reminding everyone of exactly what a weak, insipid record her's was (and also of all those so called DJs who thought "cutting edge" meant play crap!). The big difference is that Duffy can't sing - this guy can. I wouldn't expect to hear it played at a major soul night but early on, at a small local do should be fine. J.
  15. Maybe a bit less? But not too much, around £30 - £40 I'd say?
  16. £40 - £50 or so for the Gloria Jones I'd say...........
  17. What on earth is happening today!!!!! Do you have anything by the Spineless Scum?
  18. Think I may be knocking out some of these soon: https://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/7844112.stm
