  1. Good news for Buster - thanks for putting me straight! I have it too so thanks again
  2. Would I be spoiling the whole of this good thread if I admit that I always liked the intro to "Black Power"??
  3. Storm in a teacup old chap. Hope the info provided so far has helped. Perhaps if you could post label scans we could help more. Feel free to PM me if you want. John.
  4. Yes please, saw it listed a short while back. Can't remember price but higher than I would have expected I think....... John.
  5. I never look at dates on records anymore............ J
  6. Me too, although Donny Hathaway version was let down by the backing track to me - didn't sound spot on, almost too polished and not raw enough. That make sense?
  7. Better Use Your Head - any version. Our Love Will Grow - Showmen On Broadway - George Benson Wear It On Our Face - The Dells All well known I know, but all get you into it right from the start. John.
  8. Nice one! .......and well done on videos and web site, both most enjoyable. John.
  9. 638 I think - any advance anyone? John.
  10. Dan, not sure what you are trying to achieve with either this or the name calling PM you sent me. You do seem to be a bit sensitive so sorry if I have triggered your instabilities. If you re-read your postings you will realise that by couching them in such patronising and pompous terms, you are not providing any help at all. Quite the opposite in fact. This does seem to be a recurrent theme in your postings, perhaps you should draft before submitting. If you really wanted to help you could always have given the values of both boots and originals. I am afraid I don't know for sure but as a guess to get the ball rolling: we got togetherness-the jewels,-special disc jockey record (yellow label) - boot - 15 moody woman-jerry butler,-mercury. - original US -15 look what i got-gerri thomas,-world records the 81-candy and the kisses,-lost nite records - boot 8 love love love,-bobby hebb,-philips - original UK - 15 mr big shot,-gene chandler,-constalation records - original 12 follow your heart,-bunny sigler,-cameo parkway - original 15 they're talking about me-johnny bragg,-ELBEJAY records - boot - 10 manifesto-case of time,-legend - boot - 15 (just like) romeo and juliet,-refections-tamla motown - original 15 i'm comun home' in the mornun',-lou pride-SUEMI - boot 15 thank you babyfor loving me,-soul brothers six,-atlantic. I have made assumptions based on label and probability etc, perhaps others can help more? Also, not sure what you mean by "you'll have to try harder than that, 'john'"? Try harder at what? Please don't send me insulting PMs again Dan, it's not really in the spirit of things is it. John
  11. It's you. Everyone else is trying to be helpful. John.
  12. History indeed Eddie. I remember this well and I think there were one or two more lists like it? There was another list from USA that I remember as being just as vitriolic- was it from Martin Koppel? These prompted a storm of recrimination including the infamous letters from Soul Sam that were published in B&S. Of course these never were written by Sam and I think Soussan was key suspect. Dave Godin jumped in somewhere too methinks and that's where his B&S column started to go a bit wrong. These rivalries did much to discredit the scene and I remember friends into mainstream soul laughing at the futility of it all. They just wanted to dance - and so did I. Unfortunately, those attitudes and rivalries have never really completely gone away although this episode remains the lowest point. As for the records, well, no I never bought any on this list. I was just out of school and prices were too high. I remember having a copy of Del Satins in my hand at Wigan once but changed my mind - it just didn't feel right and I have stuck to originals ever since (well, to my knowledge anyway!) Good post - thanks, John. Some were boots, some didn't exist. I don't think any originals came from this list.
  13. Jon, best I can think of is the album on John Andersons Grapevine label from late 70's. Called "Talk of The Grapevine" it had a large chunk of Karen stuff on it. Don't see it that often but not expensive. Manship has it at 20 pound but you should pay less. Details and track listing here: https://www.raresoulman.co.uk/d/66587/VARIOUS+ARTISTS Cheers, John.
  14. Must have missed previous post. It's good - thanks Skido. John.
  15. Yes, and doesn't get anywhere near Bobby Hebb.
  16. Yup, you are right (as is Pete) - it is awful. Why all the hype though. Are there bootlegs (oops, sorry, re-issues) to follow soon? Some things never change huh. John
  17. Hoped someone would say that - well done & agreed! John.
  18. Sent you pm Mark. John.
  19. When I was in my teens and early 20's (in Swindon) there was a rag tag band of Teddy Boys about. Drainpipes, brothel creepers, teddy jackets, the lot. They were much older than us, late 30's - early 40's and were always trying to get their music played and starting, then losing fights. They looked and acted ridiculous. They were a joke and we all used to laugh at them and how outdated and stuck in a rut they were. Now, many years later, I sincerely hope that we are not perceived like that! John.
  20. Never mind eh. Found I had mine on MP3 too so here's the whole track for you. John. Brand_New___Thousand_Years.mp3
  21. One on Pat Brady's auction now. If you wanna pay double that is..............
  22. Yes indeed Mick. On Salsoul and got a few spins as you say. Difficult to follow Otis Redding though I guess! John.
  23. Surely not "I Can't Turn You Loose" Suspense is killing me...............
