  1. Benji ,what was the date of the Joel diamond release? cheers Mark.
  2. Currently sitting in stunned silence.
  3. Sorry I took the meaning to be a dealer ( or someone in the know) tracking down an artist and fleecing them only to sell the goods at a ,previoulsy known ,higher market value.
  4. This runs on particularly from my meaning, I have to agree though. If the value of an item is known and a the person is fleeced just for the sake of more profit on the part of the "buyer" it is morally reprehensible. More so if the buyer is someone who is making a big profit off it knowing the value in the first place, almost obtaining goods by deception.
  5. The bit I have highlighted in bold has always amazed me and is probably for another thread if it has'nt already been done to death. The northern scene is inundated with boots from all over and people do moan, rightly or wrongly ( I am not passing judgement ) but they are quite happy to sell a record they paid a small sum for, for many times there original investment in it. The points are; the artist and recording company do not recieve any uplift from that value, and second that the taxman doesn't get a share( his own tough luck) but if you sold enough in one tax year you may be liable for capital gains surely. Anyway no hijacking. Good points on lost treasures though Pete.
  6. I'm glad I've got the Ted Taylor one, no offence.
  7. I am torn, my early sets always seem to be screamers and my lates sets crooners. Personally though Ladies for me.
  8. Hi Paul, the answer is still no, you cant have the keys to my record box.
  9. Thanks Soulgirl, I will have a read through this lot for future ref. Hopw are you progressignwith your plans, as if I remember right you were looking to get something going. Cheers Mark.
  10. Ady, many thanks for that I will now put my thinking hat on, to put together a draft proposal idea before going further. Cheers Mark.
  11. thank Mark, much appreciated. Just one point; you said "or you can take the easy less popular route which has been a regular topic on here" Surely you mean more popular route!!
  12. I would like to throw this open to all and sundry, I organise a soul night in Kent an even when it was just a great idea in my beer glass, I always wanted to be able to have commemorative giveaways at certain times, i.e. first night button badges were given out free on the door and not since. Not rocket science I know but good PR. Anyway for the first anniversary I wanted to get a record pressed up, this is in September, but I wanted to ask peoples advice/opinions on it as I know some would see it as bootlegging. So any advice and or opinions greatly recieved from all comers. many thanks Mark.
  13. I've been told of a 12 inch version and a mate is digging it out for me so I can have a listen. The PAD one seems to have a longer intro that could fit with that idea.
  14. Thanks for that John, I am pushing the flip side (LOVE) as I think it is fantastic version of the track. It gets played on the south coast and I do believe its heading across the south now with it being put in the play boxes for lightwater and the like. I'm going to listen to the Alston track and the PAD one now.
  15. Thanks for that Tone, it is Larry and his son that I have emailed.
  16. L-O-V-E the Al Green track, but by a different artist I believe as it is much better. I have emailed the producer to see if he can shed any light on it. I have also seen it listed as beach music, so that would tie in.
  17. Hi, I know that this is likely to be some sort of reissues record label, but I am interested in finding out a bit more about it if I can. I have a copy of Heaven in the afternoon on the label, but it is credited "Lou Curtan Revue". This is really just to find out for my own inforamtion so if anyone can shed some light I would be greatful. There is no information on the label and nothing useful in the deadwax, except maybe; . L NIX. other than that it just has the number P-120-A. I know there are a few copies about as I have seen one or two recently. thanks Mark.
  18. After putting on a new venue Saturday that was non smoking and on the end of a pier, I can speak from a small point of perspective The smokers all congregated on the stairs outside with the waves breaking over the promenade. I will give them there dues, most did'nt moan except that they were freezing. The night was worse because of it, if anythng it was better, the venue was packed some have alredy commented on the fact that there was non of the eye itching or ripping your clothes oas soon as you got home because they stunk. Will affect sould nights, yes. Will it stop people from going, no. Do we live in a nanny state, probably. I to am an ex smoker married to a cancer nurse, nice outlook. If people wish to smoke the should be allowed to do so in agreed places for smokers, I disagree with some of the draconian laws in the states on smoking but in public venues it should have an impact on the liability insurance as well, as there is less risk of fire etc .
  19. A guy who shall remain nameless( unless I am pressured) going up to Sean Chapman, whilst DJ'ing at brighton and asking if he had any N.Soul! (2006)
  20. New Year, New Venue, dont miss it at the end of the East Pier, Ramsgate, Kent.
  21. Strange Book - gorgeous george - homark 13056 refosoul Saw no one had put it up so thought I would. Had this copy quite a while now and still not sure about it, although I do know its getting some good exposure now. Might be persuaded into parting with it as I am having a bit of a clear up at home due to to many boxes and cupboards with vinyl in.cheers Mark.
  22. Kent's newest soul night, new guest Dj's including Ady Lupton ( VaVaVoom) and Johnny Herbert ( Lightwater and IOW).
