  9. I think you'll find history repeating itself too...........I think what you are saying is happening with current new releases......to an even greater degree actually as more is being turned up now we have t'internet etc. With some notable exceptions, the current releases have a very short life before they are filed away in the collection. As for another oldies scene.............well, as much as I like the tunes you're probably eluding to......it's a no from me..........I want next weeks new releases!!! Each to their own. Cheers, Mark R
  10. Loved reading this guys, some super records mentioned.................none better than Clyde McPhatter...........awesome soul music. I remember after one of the live acts (Chandler/Parker?......bit of a blur now!) but it went sort of deadly quiet for a few moments...............and then the 100mph in ya face sound of Soul Set "Will You Ever Learn" crashed out of the speakers...............at this point the revolving stage hadn't errr....revolved, and as it started to turn there was Keb at the decks ready to get the dance floor going again...........some great memories from reading this!! Cheers everybody, Mark R
  11. Alright Mark...... Happy New Year to the Freeman household mate! Cheers, Mark R
  12. As a modern soul DJ (as in new releases), I cut the odd 7" to CD to prevent me carrying a 7" case around as well as my 12" and CD cases (I own them). Bet that would be frowned upon. What's the difference??? Ehhh it don't half make I laaarrrf Cheers, Mark R

  15. For those of you in R&R mode prior to the New Year celebrations, my last show for 2006 will be aired this Friday, 29th December between 9-11pm on Starpoint Radio @ www.starpointradio.com. Thanks for the support and kind words during 2006...............hope to keep it going on the same monthly basis in 2007. If I can get my arse in gear and look back throught the tunes, the January show will feature some personal faves from 2006! Cheers, Mark R
  16. Wasn't it Merlin & The Magicians, Si??? Boss record............both sides awesome 70's soul music.............guess you could say you could hear the Jimmy Jam pedigree coming through then, with the benefit of hindsight.............though his 80's and 90's productions (Flyte Tyme) are likely to be of little interest to a good many on here!! Now where's me Johnny Gill Motown album You coming up with PP on 27th mate??.............dragging Gary along too?? Cheers, Mark R
  17. Sean.............would love to see some examples of things from 2006 that you DO consider worthy, and those that you DON'T.............want to see where you're coming from on this one!! Cheers, Mark R
  18. Of course, you are right.................I knew there was more I'd forgotten!! If you check my scan carefully the writing credits on the "Never Looking Back" 12" are Ronald E. Broomfield.
  19. Probably should be on the other thread about La Voyage, but here's the 12" of the cut that Sam is pushing: Cheers, Mark R
  20. I'm no Broomfield expert, but I believe the following to be correct..............Al Broomfield is part of a large family musical family from Florida. The La Voyage "Never Lookin' Back" track that has been mentioned recently elsewhere on the forum, and was reviewed by Sam recently in Manifesto, is performed by members of the Broomfield family. La Voyage have released the EP with the above cut on, along with a further LP "La Voyage II", also worth owning. Both are quite collectable now, and a CD was released in Japan "All Nite Affair" which featured all cuts from those two LP's. You may recall a cut from around 15 years ago by Audio "Do You Really Want Me Girl" on Mote (7" & 12"). Audio is Vince Broomfield, who I believe is Al's brother. Of course there was also an Audio LP in the early 90's released on Rare Grooves (John Anderson?) label. The LP included the above cut and other gems. Dee Dee Wilde, who has cut several albums over the years, is also a relation. Back to Al, and he released a further LP to the "Broomfield" (Vision Records) LP you mention. This was released on N'Effekt records in the USA, entitled "Certain Kinds Of Weather"...........haven't played it for ever, so can't really say much more. Hope this isn't information overload, but you did ask!! Cheers, Mark R
  21. GU is indeed God himself!! Check out "Your Life" on NLC from late 90's/early 2k. Cheers, Mark R

  23. You won't need to hear my clips luvvy............I'm sure you can guess them Cheers, Mark R
