  15. Well, after returning from the high of a Southport Weekender yesterday, I sure felt in a contrasting mood today when I woke to the prospect of saying goodbye to an old friend. Nice to see lots in attendance paying their last respects to a well liked local fella. Sincere condolences to all the family, who looked truly heartbroken.........I really feel for them Mark Randle
  16. I think last time I saw him Mark, was in Weatherspoons one Saturday lunchtime, before a Boro game when they were still at Manor Park..........I seem to recall telling him about Soul Purpse and handing him a flyer, so that dates it in the last four years or so. He ran the Rugger Tavern for a while I'm told. One of the vivid memories I have, and I'm sure I've mentioned this on here before, but maybe not Steve's name, was sitting with him at TOTW one night, as he proudly held a copy of Stewart Ames on J&W in his hand. I said, "let's have a look", and as I took it off him, it fell from the paper sleeve to the floor!! Luckily all around the outside of the dancefloor at TOTW was carpeted..........no harm done!! The look on both our faces must of been a sight to behold!!! Cheers, Mark R
  17. Jeez Mark...............bit of a shocker to come on here and read this..............top bloke was Steve. I remember being round his house one night en-route to a niter and drooling over his collection. Tried real hard to get him to part with his Troy Dodds as I recall! RIP mate Mark R
  18. I'd have to say that this is true from my viewpoint too Mike, if other artists see it as succesfull and follow suit!! You noticed the influences on the new Kindred set mate? Again, it's a fine album, I like it, but hopefully these modern day talents won't all see this as the future...........certainly seems de rigueur at the moment!! Cheers, Mark R
  19. Steve, I do very well know that mate, and do exactly understand why you used this as an example of a new artist's new release on here...........so, this was no way aimed at you, although you did say something along the lines of it had set a new standard, which I do disagree with for the reasons stated........a great talent NOT doing something new. Other than that, I can see your angle totally mate. With respect, Mark R
  20. In all honesty fella's, as good as this album is, I fail to see how a guy who's talent has never been in question can be seen as raising the bar by releasing an album that uses a sound and production values that have gone before As most of you know, my roots to soul music ARE in 60's music, but why does it take a new release that sounds old to generate so much interest on here in a guy that's always displayed a remarkable talent? I guess I know the answer to that, this forum's all (well, mostly) about old music isn't it...........it's just so frustrating!!! Soul doesn't exist beyond that sound for some unfortunately Cheers, Mark R
