  2. I know you'll say I shouldn't be naive, and actually I'm not, but WTF is all this buying multiple copies? It was great to read that Mark Bicknell resisted buying multiple copies.....restored my faith........and then I scrolled down ro read of people with 6 copies!! Not such a soul family after all eh? Let your fecking mates on here buy and enjoy it for Christs sake. Same happens on record store day.......multiple copies of the Gregory Porter etc and then eBay at £50.....I just bought one and was happy to let other people enjoy it. One of the bad sides of this scene for me....... Cheers, Mark R
  3. I see Lifford got played at Leicester........... Cheers, Mark R
  4. Got one back then......can't remember where from though! !
  5. Great choices fella............in the weekly quest for the best new releases, I'll never forget being completely floored by the intro to Kimiesha Holmes.......a real fave of mine to this day on Tony Humphries excellent, now defunkt Yellorange label. And Jasper St. Company was one of the records responsible for me really taking notice of the genre seriously.........it caught my ear when I heard it on Solar Radio when it first came back as a legal station, and I've been poor ever since! LOL Pieces of class with great personal memories attached to them for me, so thanks for posting these great choices fella! Cheers, Mark R
  6. Yes, but you seem to be saying this from the NS bubble............Steve Hobbs raved over Drizabone as a W/L promo in Blues & Soul, which was still a major publication at the time. So it and it's like hardly went unnoticed. I think the "Soul Scene" was well onto it, and it was the "Northern/Rare Soul Scene" that got interested later down the line.............probably largely because by then you couldn't get it..........it seems that's a big part of how the wheels turn for some, even on things that aren't that rare!! Cheers, Mark R
  7. Great CD Jock, and their 2nd CD has some great moments too........"Nights Like This" was quite popular........this was all around the time of Fleetwood Weekender and the original Modern Room. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pqx6rY8OyWA Hope you're well pal......looks like last weekend was a blast.......would love to try and make it next year. Cheers, Mark R
  8. Incidentally, discovered by a record exec. whilst busking on the NY Underground!! What a great story....... Cheers, Mark R

Only joshing folks! LOL Cheers, Mark R
  10. We've talked on here before about the involvement of Jimmy Jam (Flyte Tyme) in M&M, who progressed onto a whole different level. .... https://www.dazeddigital.com/music/article/17655/1/jimmy-jams-lost-disco-soul-recordings Great stuff.....everyday's a school day! Cheers, Mark R

  15. I like to think that the scene and soul music shaped me, along with other influences in life. If I've added anything along the way, then I'd be happy with that fact! Cheers, Mark R

  18. Of interest to many on here I'm sure............. http://funkembassy.bandcamp.com/album/shining-on https://www.cdbaby.com/cd/ronlittlejohnfunkembassy Cheers, Mark R added by site http://youtu.be/YtbLBqnZ7Uw This EP, available on cdbaby and itunes by the end of October, 2013, has been written by Soul & Funk lovers, who missed the Golden Age of 70s music, when so many timeless songs were written by wonderful artists. Our inspiration came from Stevie Wonder, Curtis Mayfield, Al Green, Isaac Hayes, Rolling Stones, Herbie Hancock, James Brown, John Lennon, Sly & The Family Stone, Little Richard, Muddy Waters, Marvin Gaye and so many others. Funk lovers will enjoy the booty shakin' groove of Cream#9, James Brown's fans will probably enjoy Alana Bridgewater and Ron Littlejohn's performance on 'Light me up', and.... we'll let you discover the rest by yourselves. Feel free to visit us on Facebook and our website for the latest news on.fb.me/funkembassy www.funkembassy.com Enjoy ;-) credits released 19 October 2013
