Put Me Out Of My Misery. Please Name This Track
Mark R replied to gary33's topic in All About the SOUL
Funny innit, but not the kind of record I associate with people dancing in baggies to!! Winfield Parker isn't it? ..... Cheers, Mark R -
Backorder though Mart, which can sometimes mean it's been and gone and the order won't be fulfilled! Anyway, I posted about a new release vinyl record........not about value & rarity. I guess that's where EMS & Soul Source differ!! Cheers, Mark R

Ain't that the truth!! Cheers, Mark R

Andy, I spoke to Fish this afternoon and he told me that it is extremely limited and that he'd tried to get more stock and they were all gone! Bit of a story really......my email to him failed earlier today but luckily I realised and rang him............having talked to him I'm glad I didn't hang about and made the call!! Cue the buyers of multiple copies, instead of letting everyone lucky enough to get in in time enjoy a copy at £10 a pop! Cheers, Mark R

John, you forget one important point mate............I just buy music I like, and it doesn't have to be for the purposes of DJ'ing or even dancing............that's an important fact to consider. I'll buy a full priced new release CD for a killer ballad if the track moves me. I do know what you mean about getting overplayed though! And interestingly, the fact that it's retro in feel makes no difference in my selecting a purchase............more often than not that turns me off rather than on! Cheers, Mark R

Reviving the thread.......catchy as hell you have to admit............and if you're not sure I would just grab one while you can..........I was going to download it, so this was a very pleasant surprise: https://www.firstexperiencerecords.com/product-detail/Vinyl+Singles/64/Universal/Pharrell+Williams/Happy++Just+A+Cloud+Away/vinyl/4269 Cheers, Mark R

No Dave, you've got it wrong...........it's original issue only.........unless the original issue isn't vinyl!! Laughable isn't it? And before anyone sticks the knife in, that comes from someone who totally understands and agrees with the OVO thing on the Northern scene. I just don't believe you can change the rules to suit without expecting to be ridiculed! Cheers, Mark R

The original on this is the CD........fact!! Cheers, Mark R

Thought I'd share this nice bit of memorabilia from the new M&M album artwork.......love it! Cheers, Mark R

No worries mate.....Happy New Year! Cheers, Mark R

Blimey......don't start the 8-3-1 debate!! As much as I like Lisa, that cut is a real low point for the modern scene IMHO! Cheers, Mark R

No legitimate vinyl on this I'm afraid. .....not even a boot as far as I'm aware. .......but what a great tune! :-)) Don't anyone take this the wrong way, and understand it's just me being passionate. ......but please support music as good as this on whatever format necessary. It's a crazy world where we deprive ourselves of brilliance based on it not being available on vinyl, though I totally empathise with that being a preferred format Cheers, Mark R

No guns or flame-throwers from me Ted.........totally agree Cheers, Mark R

You really felt the need to fast-forward through Charlie Wilson singing "There Goes My Baby"? What a voice and what a track!! Sorry, can't find the live footage from Jools Holland's show.............Charlie was the standout power-house voice on the show................Lisa was and always is great though. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-iV8Rk_ocQY Cheers, Mark R

I blame technology and the ability for anybody to have a dabble. I curse it weekly on Traxsource as I trawl a whole 15 ish pages of releases (each page with 30 releases on and most of them with multiple mixes/tracks = lots of effort!). It's good in the right hands but there are so many people producing music which I think "who is this made for/who listens to this sh!t" and what's worse is the really good producers/editors/remixers by and large appear to have taken a back seat. Anybody's free to have a go but I wish they would step back and realise they have little to offer and "do one". This isn't particularly directed at the guy that did this..........I don't like it, but it's prompted me to state a general observation of mine. Cheers, Mark R

Whats The Difference Between A Good Dj And A Great Dj?
Mark R replied to Andy Jackson's topic in All About the SOUL
Good mic technique is essential for a NS DJ in my book......and in my experience no-one comes close to Guy Hennigan for introducing those hard-hitting raw 60's tunes......it just fits with the music perfectly! Cheers, Mark R -

And this brings me back to my point: isn't that because he has the records, which is ultimately important for this scene, rather than having to be great technically (house music), or having a great personality (mobile DJ's)...........incidentally, he might well have both the latter qualities too, I wouldn't know! Whats The Difference Between A Good Dj And A Great Dj?
Mark R replied to Andy Jackson's topic in All About the SOUL
A lot depends on the context.........in other words which scene, and what are it's driving factors? Rare records? Mixing? .....etc So it's more complicated than it might seem unless you put it into/consider the context. Cheers, Mark R -

Related & seasonal.......hope that's OK: https://www.mixcloud.com/soulboymark/old-vic-wolverhampton-all-dayer-28-december-1986/ Cheers, Mark R

I am genuinely bemused when I read things like this......why shouldn't an original CD be worth money like an original vinyl? The copying thing is irrelevant as these days for a few quid, if you already have a pc which most do, it's as easy to copy vinyl.....either way you no longer have an original! ! I can understand vinyl being a preference but the notion that a CD can't be collectible makes me smile. Cheers, Mark R

Sounds more likely Steve, well documented as the limited run of 1000 which then went for £100 a copy. I missed it then so was glad when Universal recently saw fit to do a general release. Cheers, Mark R
