  1. Who would have thought that the decision back in the 70's to run a separate Oldies All Niter would prove so pivotal........ Cheers, Mark R
  2. Agreed......I was making a different point but I'm sure you knew that Steve! Cheers, Mark R
  3. I was going to go there Dave, but chose not to! Cheers, Mark R
  4. Correct! Cheers, Mark R
  5. You need to be coming to the Kingpower Stadium gigs..........you'll definitely be looking in the right place then! Cheers, Mark R
  6. True across the scene, not just the rare soul scene......years of knowledge gained in a matter of weeks. Cheers, Mark R
  7. I wasn't around at the Casino, but we're all aware of the power of Dickie in those days, but when you see those listed together and credited to him, it really hits the point home, That's some list of tunes!! Cheers, Mark R
  8. Yes, and remember at that time there was "Get Ready" by the real (Allan Harris &) Perpetual Motion.....probably the inspiration for the c/u name..... Cheers, Mark R
  9. And proof that Ada(ritha) Dyer was in the band, as I had previously heard! Cheers, Mark R
  10. Perpetual Motion.......
  11. Well I never, some info about the band.......seems to have been on Youtube for a few years but it's the first i've seen of it: Cheers, Mark R
  12. I never did Morecambe pier so can't respond directly, but doesn't anyone have the Echoes cutting with a Pier playlist? I would love to see that again. Not sure whether is was a Pier playlist, or specifically a Dickie one, but it certainly wasn't all modern. I do remember for example a cut from one of Johnny Gill's Cotillion albums on that playlist, so I'm sure some Dickie tunes would be on there. As I say, I would love to see it again. It might be amongst cuttings in my loft but if it is it ain't gonna see the light of day anytime soon!! Cheers, Mark R
  13. Hey, if the soul on Corrie gets too cheesy we can rename him Damon Roquefort, even more so if the storyline's got holes in it! Cheers, Mark R
  14. Some people love the scene but some love money more Russ!! That's the mantra that comes into my head everytime I see these stories.......... Cheers, Mark R
  15. Probably a bit of both actually. Clearly Craig Charles is into his soul music, which doesn't make him an expert in Northern, but he's bound to know a bit! Add to that, a few years ago I recognised the name Damon Rochefort as script writer as I recall that name from the foreword to Ralph Tee's early 90's book "Who's Who In Soul Music". So there's a soul connection there and the Street always seems heavier on the soul when he's written the script. I watched last night and couldn't verify what he said about Robert & The Uptites as it meant nothing to me!! I wondered where the storyline was leading and thought HE was going to sell the records to help her, but WHAT.......she sells them!!! That explains the thoughtful look on her face as they were discussing her daughter's financial woes! I just hope it doesn't give our ladies ideas chaps............ Cheers, Mark R
  16. From around 45 mins here: https://www.mixcloud.com/soulboymark/hinckley-all-niter-wigan-casino-10th-anniversary-7-october-1983/ From the start here: https://www.mixcloud.com/soulboymark/hinckley-leisure-centre-all-niter-live-december-1983/ Cheers Mark R
  17. A top man and a legend, and as a young lad he was kind of my first "superstar DJ", so to speak. Well done Brian, and long may you continue Sir. :-) Cheers, Mark R
  18. "Can't Wait" is the killer.......... Cheers, Mark R
  19. A test of ones mettle has to be the tale of those old Levine 45's that were covered in dog shit in a barn somewhere!! Think it was a story recounted by Guy somewhere or other.......... Kinda like "how addicted are you?......." LOL Cheers, Mark R
  20. I've been talking to him about that very thing, and making some enquiries.........somebody needs to put that out on wax mate!! Cheers, Mark

  22. Apologies if already mentioned, but this is worth a punt for some on here......no vinyl which might limit it's appeal, but CD at Soulbrother or D/L at the usual outlets. Some great funky, rhythmic stuff on here...... I'm going to wear this CD out so I've ripped it iimmediately to put on the iPod!! :-) Cheers, Mark R
  23. Got a few things.......never write on labels though! My prized possession has to be The Dells "I Salute You" CD, the booklet of which is signed by each member under their respective photo in the artwork backstage at Trentham. Add to that the fact that I still have the "long box" the early imports CD's used to arrive in (so that stores could use existing LP racks to display them) for this album and I think that's pretty unique. Here's an example from when I posted it on Facebook when the great man passed........"Good luck little brother" it reads....... :-) Those long boxes...............good decoration for the record room....... Cheers, Mark R
  24. Don Christie's.......my place, though I didn't used to go into the basement as it was before I started getting into the house. Happy days............ Cheers, Mark R
