I would say in reality it's a fairly small percentage at Cleethorpes. It's not the kind of gig where very modern records make it to the main room, though clearly the more 70's sessions or sets that are played in the Modern Room, then the likelihood of some crossover (!) increases. Cheers, Mark R

On the eve of the 25th Cleethorpes Weekender, and instigated by Ady announcing he was taking a step down and the ensuing uncertainty as to whether it would continue, I felt encouraged in the last few weeks to look back at some Modern Room plays of mine from over the years. It's easy these days to keep playlists and it's become a bit of a habit for me, but it does mean that you can accurately look back at what's been played at various venues which I know many enjoy to do in the same way I do. Of course it's easy to list a load of tunes and it means naff all without some context: atmosphere, dance floor and/or listeners depending on when the set was played............and everything else that goes with it, but at least the info's at hand. I know it's not renowned for it's new music content like some weekenders are, but contrary to popular belief a few have us have persisted with the new stuff over the years and continue to do so in amongst some classics/dusties. Interesting you should select those.........I don't go a bundle on the Afro stuff in truth, and Ngawe happens to be one of the few I've bothered with, though I think I went for a slightly different mix. Love it, though it always made me think that the odd Afro thing I like seems to actually be UK produced or influenced.......not by intention but it does seem to be a common theme, or did at the time. As for Vick, if you know me at all you will know that I have a lot of time for VL.........it was us that got him over for his first UK set at our now defunkt Soul Purpose night, or more accuratley it was a joint Soul Purpose/Surgery event with the good Dr. Bob Jones on board too (and of course Mr. Curtis amongst the guest DJ's).
