  11. This happened at a NOTTS PALAIS ALL-NIGHTER 1978 Can anyone beat this ? I had a buyer pay a deposit on several items which l allowed him to take with the balance to follow - guess what the balance never arrived and l am still waiting - l had him down as a good safe bet at the time !! How wrong l was !! Should l still be living in hope of payment ??? Naaaaah ! PS The value of the 45s back then was around £30.00 - Probably add a bunch of noughts onto them by todays values.

  14. Yep l remember Jon running those coaches Robin. I ran 52 seaters from Skegness to Notts Palais dayers picking up in Boston and Grantham, also trips to Wigan '74-'78 picking up in Worksop/Sheffield - 12 seaters to Cleethorpes. One trip to Wigan we had the side windows of the coach shot out by kids with air rifles on the M1 near Wakefield made the trip there and back freezing one Jan/Feb trying to keep the cold out with bin liners taped to the window frames. Some of the coaches used were so bad you could hear 'em coming before you could see 'em. Some of the Skeggy regulars back then... Hoggy, Mick Smith, Pixie Mick, Gus, Mart Davis, Mac, Bogey, Russ Fenby, Mogul, Sharkey, Joey the Jewel. Boston lot ... Bluey, Bim, Vic, Mick Pheonix, Malc.. Worksop/Sheffield... Pete Shirley, Suzanne (now) Whitmore, Pete.. Great times just wish l had taken more photos of those days and trips........Anyone got any ??????

  21. Great days !! '78 to '81 I Would travel up to Wigan most weekends with Garry and his wife at the time Julie along with Stigger....... I Was making regular trips to the USA in search of 45s and could be found selling my latest finds in the record bar alongside Tim Ashibende, Rod Shard, Dave Withers, Keith Minshull etc... Gary was one of my best customers at the time and most of my better new discoveries went his way. Have not seen him since the mid 80s although l do hear of his whereabouts from time to time. Regards Dave Raistrick.
  22. Played at Wigan....but maybe not discovered at Wigan! Right, Clifton Hall, Rotherham played a HUGE part in pushing the scene forward and mixing the styles and tunes that worked at the time...Daybreak, The Escorts, Jewel, Leon Bryant alongside most of the BIG 60s discoveries of the day - A Wonderful period. Regards Dave www.starsandstripesimports.com
  23. Without doubt '78 to '81 Was a fantastic time to be at the Casino - So many GREAT new SOUL discoveries from the 60s/70s and the new 80s Modern Soul items of the day - Tremendous stuff!! Sad thing was that some Saturday nighters especially after the Friday Oldies niters the attendances got to be as low as a couple of hundred. Regards Dave.
