  1. Richard Marks? Funky shite? Billy Byrd? Rising Sun? Which are the 45s we are calling lesser quality funk fill ins?
  2. "I think it's a great record but there's hundreds out there with the similar sort of riffs......oh yes it's called Deep Funk.It seems northern deejays are getting on the deep funk bandwagon ten years too late and force feeding it on the northern soul scene.A few of these type of records aren't bad but there's deejays who play whole sets of it.I'ts an Emperors new clothes scenario. It was/is still being tried with latino lowrider/doo wop sounds and the latin soul thing. It seems people will play anything to avoid the traditional sounding northern records.I'm waiting for The Damned/Pistols etc to be touted as the new thing then I'm selling it as northern punk." Yes we can just listen to exactly the same sixties northern sounds all night long again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again. What fun!
  3. Frankie Crocker is one of the best grooves ever laid down by man
  4. What a beautiful record this is if you like Brit psyche soul. Great 45, good luck
  5. 'Whats the difference between this and the Age label release, is it a later version. ' Played it in Barcelona Dave, think B referered to it as 'r&b'
  6. Great price!
  7. I thought it was going to be truly trashed soundwise. Doesn't sound that bad??
  8. Nice cheapie wanted in ex + nick pls Many thanks
  9. Hi and thanks everyone for the tips "My jaw-dropper is ....... Walter Jackson "its an uphill climb to the bottom".........from the 1985 film starring William Peterson........"To live and die in L.A." This was a police type thriller, errrr, if my memory serves me well - and IAUCTTB had absolutely no connotation whatever to the film As I said,........unexpected Rob. " Great 80's 'movie' as well! Will have to watch this again haven't seen it for a long time.
  10. First released on Age as an old skool r&b cut circa '61-'62 i think, then re-recorded a-la dirty funk in '69, but issued twice on Tamboo (or maybe three times). Never seen the blue styrene one.
  11. Very rare 45. Jason Perlmutter had one for sale not long ago, though that may be the same copy.
  12. Great price on King Earnest! Soul Stroke has gone down well in London the few times i've given it a go, and the top side is as we know, brilliant hard funky soul.
  13. Blatant!
  14. With Marco Santucci playing rare 60's, 70's, crossover and funk!
  15. Remember Ollie Joy used to get played by Gav at Shotgun. One of the best New Orleans r&s records imho.
  16. beautiful label design
  17. Mixing is a different sort of club scenario though, superb as it is when its done with passion and skill. The idea of scratchy old old soul and funk records being minced at 5am in the morning by ruined soul scene DJs is a horrible prospect Also often the best part of many records is in the playout, which should be heard in all their glory imho. Agree Petersen and Parrish are actually talented DJs though and a credit to British club culture.
  18. Really nice version, quite hard to find as well.
  19. 'thanks to those that let me know they have a copy'
  20. sorted thanks
  21. Ebay shook it all up it would seem
