  1. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VhrNBtEQ_-U On a scale of 1 to 10 of coolness (10 being cool as f*ck, and 1 being Bobby Davro) where would you place Mr. Taylor? I've gone for 9 and a half
  2. oh bollox one to save up for then cheers!
  3. Loads of great hard to hear tracks on the VaVaVoom NYE disc, particularly off Karl Marthon, Jon & Ali Nightingale, Yann and Al.
  4. Hi can anyone give me a price/info for this please? I've heard its fairly cheap yet its up on RoftheR and I can only find it on one of Andy D's playlists...... Any info would be great cheers Joel
  5. I'm 26 and been into the scene for at least five years now, and I love the exclusivity of it, the record collecting, the hardcore allnighters, the talc, tailored trousers, the whole caboodle. I think there will be enough young people who get into it and understand the whole thing, and most importantly have the passion for these records (which to my mind are essentially unrecognised peices of high art). There may not be a glut of them but if there are only say 10 a year thats a small contribution to the longevity of the scene. Obviously nights like Soul Revolution are very important to bring the hardcore fanatics and the interested together, purely for the hope of ensnaring (!) at least the odd person, and of course having a good time to these records. But at the same time we have to continue having working men's clubs and basements nationwide holding bonkers soul fuelled nut sessions full of brilliant soul records. The records will always shine through to people of the same asthetic tastes as ours, and these records are SO good there will always be no way back for some people. A smaller tighter scene in the future perhaps but still as passionate??
  6. 'Out Of Nowhere' is ok, sounds like the same session, but 'Are You Fooling' is the better cut by far. Joel
  7. Awesome rhythm & soul very tough I think Damien was offered one but it wasn't cheap
  8. I think Marion Javius is a great disco soul record, after one myself. Theres a sound file on Rarest Of The Rare, or Lifeline's site.
  9. I think Morose must be right with a title like that
  10. There will always be the minority of idiots who will show their true colours in this way, but the point is they are the minority. That dosen't mean to say that everyone has to be tarred with the same brush. The terrible thing about the programme was as already mentioned, the lack of counter argument to balance the insinuation that all white soulies must be inherently racist, if indeed that was what he intended. They've only put it in the programme because they had a distinct lack of any worthwhile material and they probably thought they were adding a controversial element in the edit. I suppose they were right. Human nature is such that discrimination happens all the time regardless. What about the aggresive homophobia to be found in Jamaican dancehall ragga. Buju Banton actually making a record urging people to 'shoot batty men in the head'. No different to that silly single posted up here earlier in the thread (to make a point, granted) I would imagine. But that dosen't mean all ragga fans are that homophobic. A simple counter argument would of been fine. Jazzy B made a comment as he is perfectly entitled to do but responsible programme making should dictate balance.
  11. Hope it all works out for you Nick, a very sad state of affairs. best Joel
  12. can't believe dave conway would do somthing like this might be someone else doing it without his knowledge and embroiling him unfairly??
  13. Brilliant record, Mala is the first, John has one for £400, seen it listed slightly less a couple of times. Really hard to find I think. I heard that Terrific was a Belgian pressing or something? Great record whatever.... First head this on the same Andy Murfin and Frank Giacombe tape that had The Shadows 'My Love Is Gone' on it that there was a thread on the other day. Also had Five Chances on Finch, Cal Green, Chryslers and a great Royal Jesters on Optimum side that I forget the name of.....brilliant tape.
  14. "Im not even sure that a case can be made for a continous line from that point to the present day as IMO it was the hip hop revolution that changed the face of music and a lot of the homegrown styles, such as UK garage, drum'n'bass, can be traced to that rather than some sweaty nightclub in Wigan." Would an argument be as hip hop was directly influenced by soul, funk and reggae recordings so in turn drum & bass and garage ect ect were also....so theres maybe a pissed lineage of influence there but not as clearcut as perhaps people would like? Unsure either way myself..... Wish my local newsagents sold records. If they did it would be Ken Dodd singles no doubt.
  15. "the seventies when, for me, there was a real opportunity to push black music forward, Radio 1 spent their time with idiots like Bates and Read gushing about being at the Bee Gee's houses or some other shite. Paedophiles like Gadd and King were heavily promoted. A&R men must have greased a lot of palms (or other parts of anatomies) to get Sweet, Bay City Rollers, Slade, Abba and all that crap on the air. I am eternally grateful it was so piss poor because it never distracted me from Al Green, Bobby Womack, the best underground music scene ever and sanity." Nail and head. brilliantly written
  16. clearly the version the raiders tried to copy........great record!
  17. can anyone post up the masqueraders version please?
  18. nifty why does this guy look about 20 from the front and more like 45 from the side??? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TIPFZNXwn-k
  19. "Sadly, many soul fans, DJs and collectors are obsessed with exclusivity and rarity. And the result is that we now have "experts" on the soul scene who are unable to have a conversation about Al Green, The Soul Children, Bobby Womack, Annette Snell, Don Covay, Aretha Franklin, James Carr, The O'Jays, Howard Tate, Carla Thomas etc etc." I would have to agree with this. Its strange that I know the little that I do about completely obscure soul recordings/artists due to gleaning info from the more knowledgable on the scene, but not even that much about the more popular, prolific artists. At least it means there is so much out there yet to hear and enjoy. Hopefully a positive thing, as for me the action is the actual music itself, all the ohter stuff is a fascinating (but I have to say very enjoyable) trimming.
  20. It is totally brilliant...where was it first played ect ect?
  21. Yeah that is a great record had it on a Andy Murfin & Frank Giacombe tape along with loads of similar stuff
  22. terrible quality on the marginal one, well worth getting the Maple CD comp instead. Also as it has Marissa Gatti on it.....
  23. Got to agree the flip fo this is sublime
  24. What a mentally good rhythm and soul record that is. Makes you want to charge at the dancefloor like a whizzed up elephant.
