  1. File under wry smile. Was playing that for our friends BB, Maurice, and Delano who'd done it live the month before at Dig Deeper...
  2. We've been posting audio of all of our DJ sets from Dig Deeper for the past year or so, but only just now occurred to me there was a forum on soul-source to share them on as well. Anyhow, here's the early doors / ballads / midtempo set from before Paul Sindab hit the stage: And the uptempo set after the live music ended: Enjoy...
  3. Thanks very much for the kind words! We're still getting caught up processing video from past shows...but here's one of Paul Sindab starting the night off with "I was a fool": His full set was: I was a fool Yeah, I never knew Since I met you I'm up tight Do whatcha wanna do You dropped your candy in the sand Give me your heart Can't wait no longer You're something else Hole in your soul Stick tight to me You dropped your candy in the sand (encore) Stay tuned - we're hoping to get more video posted before our fall season starts up in September...

  5. We will indeed. We have quite a backlog of video to process from past shows, but will gradually be putting selections up so folks who can't make the trip to NYC have a chance to enjoy these performances.
  6. Indeed.
  7. We're quite excited to have tracked Paul Sindab down (many thanks to Greg Tormo for starting us down the path, and our friend George for completing the journey), and will be bringing him to Dig Deeper in 2 weeks time for his first show in his old home base of NYC in some 40 years. As we were talking to him about his recording career, he mentioned that he'd recorded at least one 45 under a pseudonym. Turns out it was already a favorite of ours at Dig Deeper, but we hadn't been able to find out who the mysterious "E.J. Rush" was on the Cooking label out of Newark, NJ. Turns out, it was Paul. Thought folks might be interested in hearing another Paul Sindab side, so I put it up on youtube this morning: He'll be performing this, the flipside of this (another fantastic uptempo cut), and essentially all of his other recorded work at the show.
  8. Thankfully, there's only one honky. Cryptic indeed. McGees is definitely a Dig Deeper favorite.
  9. I'll ask honky next time I see him.
  10. When we had Jimmy "Preacher" Ellis in Brooklyn for a show at Dig Deeper a few months ago, he was very enthusiastic about the work that Tramp Records did licensing and reissuing his material, which would include this 45. - honky
  11. He was wonderful at the Brooklyn Soul Festival we put on in 2010 with our friend Eli "Paperboy" Reed (whom you'll see in the backing band): Jimmy "Preacher" Ellis said he talked to him a few months back and that he's doing well. Both of them are consummate gentlemen! - honky
  12. So glad that y'all got to hear John perform in the UK! He was utterly astounding at Dig Deeper earlier this year (videos of that are up on our facebook page and youtube channel), and we look forward to having him back in the future. - honky
  13. It's in Park Slope, Brooklyn - easiest bet is via subway, catching the R train to the Union stop, which is 2 blocks from the venue. Hope to see you there! - honky
  14. Dave - If you're around on Saturday, June 15, in NYC, we have John Ellison of the Soul Brothers Six at our Dig Deeper night, which will also be our 5th anniversary show. Full details are here: https://www.facebook.com/events/249508948521595 Happy to suggest restaurants etc. in the area - feel free to PM me. - honky
  15. One more from Lou's appearance at Dig Deeper - I suspect a few of you know this one:
  16. Have been going through some of the Dig Deeper archive, including some video from Lou Pride's performance on July 23, 2011, at our 3rd anniversary. The ballad "You were never mine" broke our hearts at the time, and is all the more poignant now. We miss you, Lou. Will post a few more in the next few days.
  17. Someone in the UK really should bring them over. Hearing them perform is a truly life-altering experience if you love soul music. While I know that they had only two "hits" on the northern soul scene, every single thing they have done the two times we've had them at our Dig Deeper night has been absolutely astounding. "Just an ugly rumor", "Happy", "I can't believe", "(Lord) Send me somebody", "We must make things right"...on and on. Utter magic. Their take on "At last", which never came out, was particularly moving at our last show. Plus they are all great guys, and loads of fun to be with - the two weekends we've gotten to spend with them were nonstop hilarious. - honky PS - Major thanks to boba for putting us in contact. For those who didn't pick up on it, the video above of them in a radio station was on boba's show.
  18. Couldn't film "Happy" myself (my wife did - will take a little while to process the footage)...hopefully these 2 will make up for it, though: Life of tears: Man oh man: Tony Middleton's opening set was stellar as well - will be putting a few videos from his set up on our youtube channel & facebook page this week... - honky
  19. If anyone is in the vicinity of Brooklyn tonight, you can catch the Green Berets (aka the Velvet Hammer) doing "Happy" live at Dig Deeper. Here's what went down at rehearsal last night, a mostly a capella version: https://www.facebook....v=3851339522792 Full band version tonight! - honky
  20. I'm around here periodically! Dropped Daz a PM on our Dig Deeper goings-on, which at the moment involve an October 13 show with the Green Berets (aka Walter & the Admeration's) and Tony Middleton. Definitely go to Botanica if you are around NYC on a Wednesday night - Matt's night is always top notch for hearing a broad range of stellar soul! - honky
  21. Thanks - this one's pretty fantastic as well (the tail end of a 7-minute version of Man Oh Man): Incidentally, we are bringing them back to Brooklyn for Dig Deeper on October 13, 2012 - there's time to book a flight from the UK... - honky
  22. Available on 45, Daptone #17 - a "must have" in my book. Glad you all were able to hear it live! - honky
  23. Dylan - I'm guessing that was "Could have been"? One of my all-time favorite ballads, and the Expressions totally nail it live. Having had the pleasure of having Lee Fields at Dig Deeper 4 times (2 shows focused on his old material, 1 covering Barbara Lynn, and 1 with the Expressions), in my view he is without a doubt one of the greatest soul artists around today. Definitely make every effort to go see him if you have the chance. - honky
  24. Yes! Somebody should get them over to the UK - one of the most incredible nights of music I've witnessed. Here's a clip of them doing "Life of tears", backed by our friends the Divine Soul Rhythm Band:
