Bruce Springsteen does Frank Wilson, give me strength!
Solidsoul replied to vince ayres's topic in Freebasing
Frank Wilson was a brilliant songwriter, arranger and producer of many great Motown classics, and that's where his strength laid. That's what's missing with todays music. There will always be people who can sing well, but most of the great writers/ producers like Frank Wilson, who served their time in the 1950's/60's music culture of the USA have gone! -

With his short haircut and singing "Do I Love You" he could be turning into a Soulie!!! -
John Powney sold a copy to me for £8, but those days are long gone. I think it goes for about £300 to £400 now. On auction who know's!

At the risk of being a bit silly because it got into the charts, I still like "You Don't Have To Go"!

Stax or Motown what's your preference?
Solidsoul replied to Fiftyboiledeggs's topic in All About the SOUL
I like them both in different ways. Some Motown records are better than some Stax records and some Stax records are better than some Motown records! -

Yes I have always thought the Grapevine release a better cut than the original Karen. It doesn't have that heavy guitar to spoil it! It is the other way round with Ronnie Love "Let's Make Love". The Almeria original is a much better version than the Grapevine cut! -

As mentioned earlier I think Deon Jackson's "I Can't Go On" with the female backing singers is a great version. Maybe that's why it always commands a much higher price than most other Contempo records! -

Also Tamiko Jones Contempo version of I'm Spellbound" does not sound as good as the Golden World original. It sounds like she re-recorded it! I was told she recorded it again in the 70's, for Contempo while here in the UK. I don't know how true that is! -
"Stay Here With Me" - Sandra Richardson - Inter/Soul. Condition is a very nice Ex+ Sold. Original classic 70's Soul from Detriot. You tube link just to hear this great tune. Picture at the bottom is the copy for sale.

After reading this article it seems that the person who brought the records over from the State's was married the writers daughter Eugene Davis. Could Eugene Davis of had them for years but had never been able to sell them! The son in law didn't get them made for the Northern Scene, he wasn't into it and it wasn't known. Maybe he brought them over to the UK because he thought he would have more of a chance of selling them over here.

There is a GM scratched in the run out. Then a quarter of the way round from it there is an R scratched in. Further around Flaming Arrow and the release number is scratched in. The vinyl is not the modern flexible type. It is vinyl, but not very flexible. It feels like an late 60's early 70's type plastic.

My Nancy Butts has the GM scratched in the run out groove. I have seen this on other records like Calvin Williams on Northern Del La. There is also the Detroit area label GM. Mr Floods Party etc.
