The most expensive Northern record never played at Wigan
Solidsoul replied to Fiftyboiledeggs's topic in Look At Your Box
I think both venues in Cleethorpes were finished as allnighers by November 1976. Just alldayers and soul nights after that. The authorities wanted it stopped as an allnighter. -
Club Soul, rip up the dancefloor Sax!

Another ToddlinTown, Bull and the Matadors track which I think is great and underated is "If You Decide"

GWEN OWENS - JUST SAY YOU'RE WANTED 70'S STYRENE REPRO
Solidsoul replied to Adiw's topic in Look At Your Box
They were done with all the other pressings, repro's and boots in the 70's for sellers like Colin Bee and all those others selling in the Black Echoes magazine or those large boxes of pressings in venues. A lot were pressed up at legitimate USA pressing plants like Monarch. Who knows what was legal and what was not! Reissues from the likes of Columbia, MGM, RCA etc would have been legal, but most of the others probably not. As you will know, a lot of sellers call pressings and boots, reissues to try and make there sales legitimate. To me all that matters is whether it's an original or not! -

The most expensive Northern record never played at Wigan

I agree partly, but these dj's were doing lots of different venues at the time, so no sound is exclusive to a particular venue. Richard Searling had "When He's Not Around" by Rose Valentine & the Sisters Three (Little Ann Bridgeforth) which was virtually a Wigan Casino exclusive for years, but he did play it at every other venue he did a dj spot as well! -
"Baby I Love You" Howard Tate Verve 45 USA original. £25 plus postage. Paypal f&f or bank transfer. Condition is Ex+. Looks and plays great. Vinyl retains all it's gloss. Cut out hole in label. Just to hear the tune. Same as Tyn Tynes, just as good, but a lot cheaper!

The most expensive Northern record never played at Wigan
Solidsoul replied to Fiftyboiledeggs's topic in Look At Your Box
That's a bit of an daft statement considering all the wonderful and total classic Northern Soul records that were played at Wigan Casino allnighters! Just about every great Northern Soul record that was popular up till 1981, was played there! Yes there were some bad ones, but far outnumbered by the good! I know Shrine's Eddie Day and the Four Bars was a monster sound there! You have to remember it was not all sorted out, like it is now! We were all young and hearing new records just about everyday. -

I would of thought true Bruce Springsteen fans would see these cover versions of classic soul records as a sell-out. Usually his records sound like redneck light rock with a voice like Silvester Stallone in Rocky!
-
Ridiculous prices, defies logic!
-
Very sad news. A great DJ and he knew the very essence of Northern Soul, which he showed by being able to wind up the dance floor and create a great atmosphere

The Carstairs - It really hurts me girl - Issue Vs demo?
Solidsoul replied to Soulsearch's topic in Look At Your Box
All the original demos I saw in the mid 1970's were Sterling stamped. The good looking bootleg demo was not stamped. I once found multiple copies of Bobby Guitar Woods on Colt in the same box as bootleg copies. Gold originals mixed with those light green coloured bootlegs. The commercial dealer had both and had just lumped them altogether for next to nothing! -
The Carstairs - It really hurts me girl - Issue Vs demo?
Solidsoul replied to Soulsearch's topic in Look At Your Box
The original white demo has a machine stamped Sterling in the run out groove. The white demo boot could easily have had Sterling scratched in with a sharp pointed tool. -
Sold. Willie Hutch - Soul Portrait R.C.A. L.P. Incl "Lucky To Be Loved By You". As you probably already know, this is the only way to have this great track on original, as it was never released as a 7" single back at the time of release in 1969. This is the genuine original first issue L.P. For track listing see pictures. Record is near mint. Sleeve is near mint but does have staining on the back.

Yes way too much, there are relatively lots of them. It isn't a rare record!
