  1. The original demo will have either R, H or I machine stamped into the run out groove. There was three different pressing plants used to make the originals.
  2. Some people plant good records before they start filming, then act all surprised for the camara.
  3. Have Faith In Me - Sugar & the Spices - Swan promo £350 Mint- One More Hurt - Marjorie Black - Sue £200 Mint- It's All Over Me - Otis Blackwell - Epic promo Mint- £125 Goodbye Baby - Bob Brady - Chariot. Mint- £100 Let's Go Together - Andrew Brown - Four Bros Mint- £100 Where Are You - Four Sonics - Triple B. Ex+. £50 Postage to be added on.
  4. The blue issue 1002 Drew release originally came out on both variations. Some were styrene and some were vinyl. Both have always usually been counted as originals. There is a recent four track ep reissue of "Why Girl" on a white demo with "Instant Heartbreak" and "Such Misery" on it.
  5. Will Hammond say's, "I actually gave her (Carolyn Sullivan) the name 'Martha Starr.' I wrote and produced both the Martha Starr and Ward Burton versions." Hammond indicates that the Martha Starr version was recorded prior to the Ward Burton release. Carolyn Sullivan has three 45s on the Charay label. Hammond's comment also refers to Sweet Temptation attributed to "Cressa Watson" (not Cresa Watson), apparently from this LP compilation. Hammond wrote; "The Cressa Watson thing is a fake. I think the guy at the record label was dating Cressa Watson or some kind of hanky panky and tried to impress her with this fake record." Based on this comment, I wonder whether the Martha Star on Thelma circa 1966 - apparently Martha Ann Shamley - is a different artist than this Martha Starr (aka Carolyn Sullivan) on Charay, who also recorded with Moses Dillard.
  6. You could try graffiti remover. It works sometimes, but it can take the colour out of the label or just make a messy smudge! I have had some success with shiney labels like American RCA's It could be worse, if you had to try and clean one of the rarest records on the Northern scene that has been written on and defaced!
  7. Artist, Marjorie Black A Side, One More Hurt B Side, You Still Love Her Label, Sue Records USA, Condition, NM , Clean Labels, Great original copy. £200 includes insured postage.
  8. The original Columbia Dana Valery was £7 in 1974. That's about £95 in today's money. But people on the Northern scene were all young then, so didn't have as much disposable cash as they do now! Hence lower prices then compared to now. He say's the boot on the Pussycat label was a quid or so.
  9. Certainly looks like a modern reproduction. Not a record from 1964! It doesn't look like any of my M-Pac records. A picture I found of an original.
  10. Original first issue of this Northern Soul classic. 45rpm £125 includes insured postage. Condition is a immaculate Mint- At one time this was a massive top record on the scene. One of the top five plays in the country then. It's a superb dancer and still got what it takes
  11. That's great you can confirm the true singers name for "Temptation Is Calling My Name". It has been a classic sound on the Northern Soul scene since the early 1970's. There has been a lot of speculation as to the singers identity, so thanks to your posts we now know it's your uncle, David Lee Truss.
  12. EDWARD HAMILTON & NATURAL LOOKS My Darling Baby / Willing Mind Label: MARY JANE 1010/11 with a proper Archer stamp. Condition is a very nice Ex+ £200 plus £9.50 fully insured delivery.
  13. Thanks for your great info on your uncle David Lee Truss. Can you confirm that he is the Lee David that sang "Temptation Is Calling My Name"/ "Cold Wave Coming On" on the Columbia record label in 1967?
  14. Looks like this could be the answer from Ed Hill, to the Lee David searched for!
  15. Mint- £100 + £3.60 tracked postage.
  16. Yes but it's Johnny Manships perspective of history. I went to hundreds of allnighters/soul nights and John Manship was not there. He probably went to hundreds of events I didn't go to. So we will have a different view of how it was! I suppose any book is the authors perspective on how it was to them. A lot of interesting things left out that should be mentioned etc. That's why I have given up on buying books about the Northern Soul scene. My memories and any authors are often too different.
  17. Great in-demand rarity. Rarely turns up and is a great top notch item to play at any Northern Soul event. It's a very nice item for the serious Northern Soul collector, especially in this great condition. Original first issue Swan white demo in Mint- condition. Red x on the label. £350 plus £10 fully insured delivery.
  18. John Anderson at the Soul Bowl once had an amount of mint copies of this Johnny McCall listed for a short time. £5 each. This was before it was well known. I bought one at the time, but it's gone now in a trade!
  19. I never saw this auction finishing price. What did it go for? The original has never been common and not seen very often. The easy to spot 1970's reissue/boot has been sold as an original in the past.
  20. Years ago I was in Marks and Spencers clothing dept and "Thank You Baby" - Matt Brown came on! I think it's a fantastic record, and a favorite from the old Shotts Allanton allnighters up in Scotland, but it was very surreal to hear it there! None of the normal customers took the slightest bit of notice, they just carried on browsing the tee shirts!
  21. A light green USA Capitol demo of "A Lil Lovin' Sometimes" - Alexander Patten! I don't think it exists. There are a few more Capitol numbers only issued with no demos. And a white demo of "Out On The Floor"- Dobie Gray on Charger.
  22. Yes I remember them on his list. I think they started about $60 until it became better known. He had plenty copies available, but I never bought one because he was repressing records and mixing them on his listings with originals, so I was never to sure about it being real. The story goes that they were free copies made to give away at Frederick Hymes III live concerts! You'll need to take that with a pinch of salt!
  23. I remember "Angel Baby" by Garland Green getting plays at the Highland Room, at the Blackpool Mecca in the mid 70's. Always thought the flip "You Played On A Player" a great record as well. I don't collect Australian records, but they do look good!
  24. Well spotted Codehound, that's a silly price. There are a lot of chancers out there who try their luck! It's always useful to check Popsike etc, when considering a purchase.
  25. The first time I heard Jimmy Burns was at Wigan Casino in the late 70's, but I'm not sure if it was Richard Searling or Soul Sam that played it. I thought Jimmy Burns was great, but was not too keen on Brand New Faces. I do also like the Bobby James version as well.
