Hi @Floyd, I found this: Source: https://personal.help.royalmail.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/143/~/ive-received-a-grey-fee-to-pay-card#:~:text=Any parcel assessed as being, are also liable for VAT.
-
Hi @Floyd – VAT you only pay once as far as I know; but you might need to pay handling fees to Royal Mail when the goods enter the UK. I got something sent from the EU, with a declared low value and I did not have to pay anything. Luck I guess.
-
Non-cheapie from EU report: It finally arrived directly to my home without having to pay anything extra. Shipping date: 19/01 Delivery date: 28/01 Sent as gift with a declared value of EUR 20.
-
@DukeBurgundy that's outrageous. I'd really like to know what's changed for the Post Office to charge an extra £8 handling fee. Sigh. In other news, the record I'm waiting from the EU has finally arrived in the UK after 8 days. It still needs to go through sorting, ready for delivery, etc. I'll update updating this thread.
-
Yes, I noticed something similar too. Perhaps it's something that each seller needs to configure, I don't know. However, unless it's declared as a gift, you'll have to pay VAT or VAT + Import Duty upon arrival to the UK (based on the £135 threshold). And perhaps some handling fees too?

I've got one coming from EU still in transit. I'll report back probably next week when I get it.

Tito Ramos - Where My Head Is At (Cotique, 1972)

Bumping this want. -
@Ted Massey @Jnixon Yeah, I wouldn't expect prices to drop. The UK, albeit big, is just a piece of the soul market. I'm sure lots of those auctions stay local (US) and a huge portion makes it to Japan.

@Bo Diddley Thanks for the details. I too enjoyed several wins over the years. However, knowing that we'll have a 20% added on top of ALL sales, it will be a bit difficult to compete with other bidders. I have a few items I'm watching that will finish this week. I might be my last foray at the import game If, however, the value of the purchase is £135 or more, the 20% VAT will not be added and it will be dealt as it was before. Am I right in thinking that the VAT + import duty will be charged based on what's declared on the customs tax form – exactly as it was before?
-
@Bo Diddley I noticed that if I go to ebay.com whilst being logged in, the 20% is not shown. However, if I look at the same item (also logged in) in ebay.co.uk, the 20% is shown. Did you checkout via ebay.co.uk? All my items posted on ebay.com have the 20% VAT. Whilst some others, posted on EU ebay sites, do not. It's quite confusing.

Buying from the usual suspect ebay.com sellers might no longer be a an option with the 20% VAT added on top. I'm sure Discogs will soon update their tax policies – bummer. A good time to fill in wants in other genres that are easily sourced from within the UK, perhaps?

@Fish Fingers I missed the second part of your message! I wasn't familiar with that tune, and that live version is so much better than the one on the 12"! Nice recommendation. The intro is a homage to "Ooh I love It" by the Salsoul Orchestra – isn't it?
-
@candiman I love Gloria Scott's LP – and what a cover! I love the tune "Rocking you Eternally". I'm not familiar with the entire album, but I just read the credits and found that Marcos Valle is there playing in the aforementioned track, and also there's a version of Marcos's "Bicho No Cio" sung in English (I prefer Marcos's version though). As for Roy, I agree that he's fantastic but my favourite is probably "Lifeline". Edit: I just noticed that there's another Marcos Valle tune on that album "Baby Don't Stop Me". I also prefer Marcos's version.
-
@Fish Fingers oh, that's more one the dance side of things. I wasn't expecting that. Similar to the sound of Joey Negro (Dave Lee). I like that tune. I've never heard of them, so thank you. If you like that kind of stuff, give this a listen.
-
@Fish Fingers It's been a couple of weeks, and I can't stop playing "Easy Does It"

Ray Alexander Technique feat Chris Bartley 45
Bocanada replied to Bocanada's topic in Look At Your Box
@The Yank I guess is one of those then, thanks! The B side is a fantastic tune! -
Hi, Today, I came across the song "I Wonder Why" by The Ray Alexander Technique featuring Chris Bartley. I checked on Discogs and only 1 person has it. I know nothing about soul 45s and I'm wondering: Is this 45 one of those impossible-to-find holy grails? Thanks

Can't find this anywhere. Any help would be appreciated. Condition VG+ or above. Thanks!
